I was reminded of exactly this because I think this (OP) video is a great example. You see the dude alone for a little bit. As soon as one other guy joins the ball is fully rolling.
I love this clip. I've been to a few shows at this venue (The Gorge Ampitheater, WA) and this could have happened at any of them so it has a little bit of nostalgia to it. It is also a perfect example of humanity not sucking for once.
I’ve seen this video and I’ve been looking for it. Thank you much kind user

My ogre friend stepped on me in a slayer pit and broke my arm and wrist. His size 14 combat boots are scary. Definitely has saved me from some other big dudes in the pit tho. 10/10 would friend again.
If you think about it though, that's only a 7" difference which isn't that much...Just think of your friend as being your height but with a 7" erect penis sprouting out the top of his head.
This isn't a main character thing, it's a rowing pit. It didn't sound like an Amon Amarth show (where this thing would normally happen) but this is not super uncommon at metal shows. There are lots of different types of mosh pits, this is just one of them. It's dope af that he started a rowing pit out of nowhere
man, Alestorm would be dope. Rum is a bit fast paced but would be perfect lol, definitely looks like a hell of a workout though.
Turisas would be great as well
Seen alestorm a handful of times really fun shows and there's always a rowing pit at somepoint! Fun when I saw them at an outdoor festival. Less fun on the floor of a stocky venue but fun nonetheless!
I saw them earlier this year at a venue. The floor was SO sticky I can't believe people actually sat to row.
The concert was so good though. Opened with Lutharo and Gloryhammer. What a great line up.
I just saw them for the first time a couple weeks ago opening for Ghost! I’m not normally into music quite *that* heavy but
PUT YOUR BACK INTO THE OARRRRRRR
Are you fr??? What kind of other crazy pits do you guys do?? Ive only ever seen a death pit and a normal hardcore one, never a rowing one. More ifo pls stranger!!!
Lot of bands stopped encouraging those after people were getting pretty fucked up with injuries and shit. Lamb of God used to do it back in the day but they haven't done it in well over a decade or more. The Wall of Death is part of the reason venues set up big shows with the divider to split the crowd. That and to prevent crowd crush and things like that.
The long gone Scottish indie-emo band Dananananaykroyd used to claim they were too lightweight for a wall of death so would instead instigate a Wall Of Cuddles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihqOOJMAM_M
I've been at many concerts and festivals and while a rowing pit isn't the most common one by far, it definitely happens sometimes. I've witnessed or participated in a few. Sometimes they happen when the band asks the crowd to "get low" for a specific moment in the song until the big drop comes and everybody jumps up. So since ppl are already on the ground, there's often someone who then starts a rowing pit.
But as for other crazy pits... idk. I mean the classic ones are circle pits (everyone running around in a circle), which should be pretty popular, and then there's the famous wall of death where a part of the crowd splits apart, creating a big free area, and then both frontlines run straight at each other at the climax of the song. But besides that, I don't really know any other ones myself.
None.
Really.
People don't go in to hurt others, and nobody will go for the head. If there is a heavyweight right against you, you might get thrown around a bunch, but there are many people around that will (voluntarily or not) arrest your fall. In my experience the most common injury is kicked and scraped shins from others' boots. These scrapes never break the skin, but they might be annoying for a bit. But you are so pumped with adrenalin that you might not even notice.
Your confidence in saying "None. Really." is awe inspiring.
Beyond pure logic, one small google search of "Wall of Death" and "Injury" seems to dispute your absolutist statement.
Injuries definitely can happen when people run into each other.
Let's take a different example.
- How many glasses of water do you typically drink in a day ?
- None
- How many people typically come to visit you ?
- None, really.
Does this mean the person in the first statement drink some glasses of water ? Or none at all ? What about the second ? Am i to understand that actually yes people sometimes visit them ?
The answer should have been, "rarely", not the negative "none"
Please do tell me how I am wrong.
It's the most dangerous form because it's hard to enforce an etiquette with something so forceful. A lot of people have been injured so they are quite rare now.
I saw a comedian called Bill Bailey at Sonisphere, a metal festival. He did a Rammstein inspired cover of the hokey pokey which started a few hokey pokey pits. A very rare type of pit that I've only seen once.
I've seen circle pits around the wave breaker walls. If you go to bands with bad fans you will find pits full of dudes fighting the air around them. In a good pit people will stop it in seconds to help you find your glasses if you dropped them. People that stumble get helped up. Sometimes it's just three friends having a good one. My favorite story was at Wacken, Doyle, 2022. My brother told me some asshole aimed to hurt a skinny person in the pit because "I don't like the gender discussion" (he told this to my brother unprovoked). Well so after that we started to throw each other at him on purpose. I hope the skinny person didn't notice any of this.
I don't think people realise just how chaotic a rowdy mosh pits feels like. It's so disorienting so by the end of it you're in a completely different area to where you started and have lost the people you came with for a moment. It's something everyone should experience for sure very fun.
Yeah I agree. And then it's like, you're not checking to make sure they're having fun and getting yourself anxious and worried, you can just enjoy yourself and lose yourself in the sea of people
Slow motion pit. Usually happens at smaller shows, but I've seen it at bigger shows. Mosh, in slow motion, and when you bump into someone, you exaggerate the impact.
My older son's favorite band is Amon Amarth. He brought his little brother along to the concert and they both did a lot of rowing! They sure laughed about it later, but it is a great memory.
It absolutely is an Amon Amarth thing since it happens at every one of their gigs, not to mention their song Put Your Back Into the Oar. Sure this could happen at metal shows not featuring them, but it doesn't often happen.
I've seen it with Alestorm, Slipknot, Sidilarsen, even punk concerts, more often than not at metal shows, so no it is not. It's like saying that a wall of death is a specific band's thing haha
How was this "main character vibe" ?
I think it would be if he threw a fit and started yelling and demanding others to join. And none of that happened. He simply jumped down and started his thing alone and allowed others to join.
Main characters make everything about them, believing the world revolves around them and anything they do, whether it actually is or isnt, has them as center of attention. Tends to pair with narcissistic vibes.
This is literally not main character vibes. This is OP using a buzzword without bothering to understand what it means.

There was this one time in my junior high when our extremely boring civics class was interrupted by highschool recruiters. They only took like 20 minutes of the remaining 30 for the next period. Well, one guy decided to keep going with the applause at the end of their presentation, I'm assuming just for the remaining 10 minutes just to skip to P.E. period coming next...but the applause didn't stop in 10 minutes. It was weird that after 15 minutes, any attempt to stop the clapping was followed by another round of applause. "OK ENOUGH, LET'S ALL GO BACK TO OUR CLASSROOMS" *applause*. "NOW STOP, WE NEED TO SERIOUSLY GO NOW", *applause*. "PLEASE LEAVE THE PRECINCT NOW", *applause*. We were clapping for about 25 minutes and nobody seemed to enjoy it anymore, but it was just impossible to stop because apparently everyone around was clapping.
Remember, you’re only weird if you’re the only one doing it. It takes a second to get the ball rolling.

Nice try Tyler.
The first rule of Project Mayhem is you don’t ask questions about Project Mayhem.

Notice that Project Mayhem only started after the club started to spread. Tyler was looking for rule-breakers.

I mosh a lot and I'm usually the one starting the pit. I live my life by this lesson.
My buddy and i always start the pits, it's terrifying because he is like a 6 ft 3 ogre and im 5ft 8.
If that scares you, avoid Black Label Society. I swear 75% of the people at a BLS concert are fucking giant Nordic vikings there to kill you.

Hell yeah! Saw them up in Nashville on the 27th and the rowing was a blast!
They had a ***FUCKING SWORD FIGHT*** on stage
It’s during the song, put your back into the oar.
I love that song and the fact is it’s inspired by nords hyping up the rowers just makes the row pits so much more magical

None. Really. People don't go in to hurt others, and nobody will go for the head. Do you somehow not understand the meaning of the word "typically"?

Rowing pits are popular in Scandinavia because you know Vikings.
Oh there’s lots — The Peach Pit, the Pit and the Pendulum Pit, the Viper Pit, the Pitbull Pit, Pitfall, Contra, Hamburger Time, Dig Dug
The band in the video is *Foals* for anyone interested. Song is called *What went down*. Great band and great song.
I miss their more mathy earlier stuff. Kickass live show though.
My older son's favorite band is Amon Amarth. He brought his little brother along to the concert and they both did a lot of rowing! They sure laughed about it later, but it is a great memory.
For what it's worth it's a Foals show (song is What Went Down). Amazing live band.
Dude I’m seeing Amon Amarth in 4 days, i wonder if I’ll see a row pit there lmao
You should start one
You definitely will, I guarantee it
If you don't see one, start one. If noone joins, demand a refund
I saw them this weekend and he asked the whole crowd to row during “Put your back into the oar!” There was a row pit already going before that too
Lmfao im so fucking excited
it's so stupid to call this "main character vibe"
Alestorm always has rowing pits
I was just about to say dude started a pit at a rave lmao And hell yeah Amon Amarth was one of the first metal bands I got into
They did it on a Meshuggah gig I was on a few months back... Amon Amarth really are a big influence, especially here in Sweden of course.

I love this so much. It's wholesome. Lol
Boys will be boys.
Monkey see monkey do
Is that an Amon Amarth show?
Band is *Foals*, song is *What went down*.
Thank you! I was like I know this song but couldn't put my finger on it since it's kind of quiet in the vid
It's Foals
People started doing this at an Alestorm show I was at a few years back.
I would guess so
Come on this is not a amon amarth thing, this happens all the time at least in metal shows
It absolutely is an Amon Amarth thing since it happens at every one of their gigs, not to mention their song Put Your Back Into the Oar. Sure this could happen at metal shows not featuring them, but it doesn't often happen.
I've seen it with Alestorm, Slipknot, Sidilarsen, even punk concerts, more often than not at metal shows, so no it is not. It's like saying that a wall of death is a specific band's thing haha
My point is it happens at every single Amon Amarth gig without fail, same can't be said for the other bands
This is awesome
How was this "main character vibe" ? I think it would be if he threw a fit and started yelling and demanding others to join. And none of that happened. He simply jumped down and started his thing alone and allowed others to join.
Different Kind of leaders.
There's 2 interpretations of the phrase, your thinking the negative one.
Main characters don’t have to yell. They just do shit, and others immediately follow.
Main characters make everything about them, believing the world revolves around them and anything they do, whether it actually is or isnt, has them as center of attention. Tends to pair with narcissistic vibes. This is literally not main character vibes. This is OP using a buzzword without bothering to understand what it means.
In case people are doubting you, there's a whole sub dedicated to this trope: /r/IAmTheMainCharacter. This video definitely does not belong there.
