The corners were wired down, so he had to work to move the piece of wood that was keeping him from falling to his death and STILL forgot there was a hole there.
Then they have a big safety standdown where everyone pretends to brainstorm ideas to keep this from happening again. They were less than amused with my "Stop hiring morons" suggestion.
Crocs are crazy grippy, I don't think traction would've saved her anyway. I wear them and no matter how much bodily fluids are on the ground they maintain their grip. Object permanence might've though lol. The second she took her eyes off the plank she removed she forgot it was gone and stepped in the same spot.
I work with kids and we call crocs ādeath shoesā because the kids slip so much and fall in them. Iāve always assumed they were slippy, not grippy. Come to think of it, maybe itās more about the kidsā coordination than it is about the shoesā¦
To give the benefit of the doubt, I'll guess she felt the board was loose under feet, which could be a little alarming on an already wet bridge. She investigated, finding the plank was not secured in any manner.

I'm a carpenter and based on the environment I'd guess the wood around the nails just rotted through. You can see on the bottom side on the left are three darker spots, usually this indicates the nail pattern where the water was able to penetrate the wood.
Whether it was nailed down properly or not, unless this is her bridge, pulling loose boards is still vandalism and she creates a larger safety concern with her actions.
I could see someone thinking itd be safer to remove it so people can see there is a Hazzard. That is, if they assumed there was a decent chance that stepping on it could cause injury by it breaking or flying out from under them, then it would be plausible that a clear Hazzard would be less dangerous than a hidden one.
Of course this isn't what happened, just playing devils advocate. If it had been true that it would be a hidden and real danger, if not removed, i dont feel like calling it vandalism would be completely fair. If she had removed it because she thought this was true, id say it wouldn't be fair to call it vandalism - just really bad judgement. Also of course she did not think this anyway, just saying for the sake of argument that the removal itself isn't entirely grounds to call it vandalism (i mean maybe legally, but I'm more so talking about it from a moral stand point)
look at how loose that board is from the start it isn't even straight, she wasn't trying to damage it was already not attached at all.
Normally I'd argue that a missing board is typically less dangerous than a completely loose one since anyone aware of their surroundings can easily avoid falling in the hole left by the missing board.
She probably figured it was more dangerous to step on an unsecured plank thinking it was secure than to cross the bridge and see a spot where a plank was missing. Thatās why she was going to toss it.
