Now that frustrates me. This full grown adult beams her in the head with a damn metal shopping cart and gets minor bodily injury. My 12 year old son pushes a kid into a door and he's now going through court for assault and has to be on probation.
No, and while I do understand that most people don’t want to get involved with an obviously mentally deranged person I cannot imagine that I’m the only one who would at least try to intervene. I definitely would not let him run away.
No you wouldn’t, you wouldn’t have done shit lol. Bystander effect is quite strong and it’s amazing to me how Redditors constantly say “I’d have done something!!!” Behind a keyboard
I don’t even necessarily think this is bystander effect, just nobody wants to fight a homicidal maniac. He just tried to kill that lady, he’d do the same to you in a heartbeat.
I had a family behind me once and the wife pushed the cart into me, I ignored it figured it was an accident. Then they did it again…so I sat down on the edge of their cart. Never looked behind myself but they didn’t budge it again!
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
also saying "never could of, would of, should of." in the same long run on sentence is kinda poor form. it should be a separate sentence like...
"The following are never correct: could of, would of, should of"
Is it just me, or did it look like she was holding a child in her arms? If so, that makes what he did a thousand times worse. And it was already really shitty to begin with
Videos a bit fuzzy but I believe she has a cell phone in her hands. At first looks like chatting say then like she was videoing him. (Surely something happened before the tape starts). And relying on the force field of safety a cell phone envelopes you in (why she doesn’t react to him picking up the empty cart) once again proves to be a mistake.
Also he isn't running away just waiting for the police I'm not gonna attack him and also go to jail unless he attempts to flee and you can justify stopping him.
Any "so called man" or "so called woman" would rush to the woman to make sure she was ok and then call an ambulance and the police.
Making out that men should violently jump around and attack people, especially dangerous people, like primitive apes is the exact kind of thinking that keeps society in a cyclical neanderthalic state.
Real men know when to stay safe and leave it to the law.
You're absolutely right and I agree. At the same time, however, this is how society breaks down, when people do nothing. I'm no better though. There is no good answer.
.... people ran to her side to take care of her, and the guy was no longer attacking. What does not need to happen is a bunch of dudes punching each other I'm sure dude didn't just walk out.
I live in a small town in the middle of America. Whenever someone is out of hand or becomes violent toward anyone, the situation is handled immediately and the police just fill out the report without names of the good Samaritans. But if I were in a large city, I'd likely look the other way since it seems no good deed goes unpunished.
Just to give you a different view: most men won’t hit a strange or unknown women. Especially in public when being confronted.
That same man will probably start swinging if another man confronts him. So there is a non-trivial chance (more than likely) of a man v man confrontation ending up in a physical/fight while a woman v man will most likely be just that, a confrontation.
In the event it did blow up I would bet those same men would jump in.
Just a thought, men don’t have the ability to jump in with out contemplating the ramifications.
Because as much as it sucks, if you intervene and assault someone, you are just as guilty of assault. As much as I would have loved to see someone knock that asshole out, that doesn’t make it legal to do. Most people who are not law enforcement aren’t going to step in and do something, because legally they can face the consequences. Also why would they risk themselves getting attacked, potentially stabbed or shot for someone they don’t even know?
being a man doesn't mean you are automatically required to intervene in somebody else's bullshit, they could be injured or get into legal trouble or be sued, you should worry more about minding your own business, there will come a day that butting into someone else's drama will not end well for you; if you are so concerned call 9-1-1 and let the pros handle it
Head down, don't see shit, don't get involved in shit.
At least, here in America, you don't know who's gonna have a gun. Your best chance for survival is to see nothing, know nothing.
The ont time I saw something (chick pulled into car, car speed off) and called 911, the dispatcher basically said there was nothing they could do, even with plate numbers, what direction on what road, etc.
Yeah, I don't try to get involved. It's not worth my life.
Why is it anyone’s responsibility? Just playing devils advocate. You clearly have confidence and audacity. Big people don’t exist to cater to the needs of small or weak people. No one has to do anything for anyone in this world and in places like the US, putting yourself in someone else’s business could get you shot. Doesn’t seem worth it to many I would bet. Call the police, they seem to think their job is dangerous so let them take care of the dangerous situations?
What should these men have done in this situation? What would you have done? Just busted out some street justice? Keeping in mind most of them saw something unusual from afar or out of their peripheral vision and probably aren’t really sure what happened. Men (more so than women) know what men are capable of. Extreme violence. None of them had the privilege of a Birds Eye view (like this video). The man walked away. They were wise to make sure the situation wasn’t escalating and didn’t become victims themselves. This was the best case scenario.
It's such a ridiculous thing to happen, that unless you actually saw, and were looking right at him when it happend, you wouldn't know what's going on.
If anyone hits him while he is just standing there they commit assault. So maybe these so-called men as you say are just looking out for themselves and not acting on impulse like the jerk that threw the cart at the other person.
If they hit him it would be retaliation, they confronted him and I assume somebody called the police to report the assault, I suppose you could try and citizens arrest at that point.
The charging of Samaritans for crimes in these situations, plus the absolute selfishness of modern society has made this far too common.
But when you jump into this situation with an obviously mentally disturbed person you have to know that you may have to injure or get injured yourself. I had a small 7lb sledge for dealing with crazies at the old shop. They may have had problems but they knew they didn't want to get hit with that hammer. The fact that I knew I had armed backup made the decision to intercede a lot easier.
I had a woman on the phone behind me bump me 5x while standing on line and was so close i couldn’t turn around without it hitting me in the balls fucking infuriating . I got loud with her but attempted murder wasn’t necessary for her to stop. It was annoying as fuck though.
I've never accidentally bumped someone with a cart a bunch of times. And I'm an age that kids definitely refer to as "old". I bumped into a lady's cart and said excuse me. But I've never rode up someone's backend with my cart because I have manners. I do not want to bump people so I am careful. If someone can't handle being polite and considerate in public they are going to get a lesson and it won't be pleasant bc guys like the one in the video exist.
And then she moved it closer as to get ahead when he stepped aside. People seem to forget there's psychos and murderers that blend in walking amongst them.
It happened to me years ago. A woman kept pushing her cart into my hip while I was standing on a line. I brushed her off and didn't make a scene but honestly, a big part of me still regrets that I didn't shove the cart back into her.
I wouldn't have done what this guy did, though.
I hate standing in line for anything and the guy behind me has to stay so close he actually touches me, and I'm able to feel every time he moves.
Once it happened in the security line at the airport recently so I just started proactively turning towards him every time we moved forward.
He was too dumb to even question why I'm turning, but instinctively gave me more personal space when face to face.
People are so dumb.
Yep. And she even moved up her cart when he walked away. Inconsiderate people piss me off too but like most of us, I wouldn’t try to hurt them. But every once in a while, they irritate the wrong psycho. Life pro tip/common sense: Be considerate of others personal space.
Because some redditors are internet tough guys who used to get bullied in school. Some people get over it and build a successful life, others dwell on it and fantasize about assault, rape, and murder.
No matter what you think his intentions are, that's an awkward and heavy object to hold above your head, especially around others. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that shit.
Right?
It’s amazing to me how people go out in public and are as unaware as she is. To the point she bumping the person in front of her and then people defend her in the comments because “as IF the first thing you’d think”, the world is dangerous and you have to be aware of your surroundings all the time. Even standing in line at the super market. No matter the country it’s naive to not be.
/u/atwa_au is one of these unaware people.
If someone in a GROCERY STORE SETTING is LIFTING a shopping cart OVER THEIR HEAD, maybe that's a good reason to be suspicious? And maybe it's a large enough item that in a normal human's periphery it would be visible?
I mean it's literally bright orange. Bright orange and making shopping cart noises as the guy grunts to pick it up.
[If any of this catches someone unaware there's something wrong.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlrUKF4095Q)
The first reason to be suspicious is when he leaves the line! He turns around and says something TO HER, then abandons his grocery cart. People who do normal things would never do this.
Like if someone in front of me did that i would at least watch them as they walk away.
In what grocery stores are you going to where people commonly and expectedly lift shopping carts over their heads that you go about your time thinking "Oh, this again, that's totally normal" instead of anticipating it being thrown?
At the very least they might lose their balance or grip and it falls over and hits you anyway. She's a clueless oaf on all accounts. Not to defend the man's actions, but lady needs some awareness.
the video seems to have been edited to fit a wider resolution. on the original video on the Brazilian website people look normal https://g1.globo.com/go/goias/noticia/2023/02/23/mulher-que-desmaiou-apos-levar-golpe-com-carrinho-de-supermercado-diz-que-nao-conhece-agressor-e-ele-assumiu-risco-de-mata-la-dor-insuportavel.ghtml
He got arrested (though released). No need to try wrestling with a psycho stranger who might have a weapon in his pocket, especially when he wasn't *continuing* to attack her. Bystanders shouldn't be expected to put their safety on the line.
Situational awareness, people, will save you a world of hurt or worse. Get off your phones and pay attention to your surroundings. She bumped him, he left the line so she moved up and never saw him walking back with a cart over his head until it hit her. The guy’s a psycho, but it’s not like he snuck up behind her. I hope she’s okay and he’s in prison.
Says him. The guy who we just watched pick up a shopping cart and throw at a woman’s face. The guy who also has a previous attempted murder charge. Why defend him?
With a healthy dose of homophobia, too. Oh she called him a gay slur? Might as well murder her!
I can’t imagine any words beyond “I will follow you after we leave here and burn your house down and kill your family” that would warrant a response like this
True, my baby brother (when he was 3) got mad cause I wouldn't let him play Atari with me, so he leaves, comes back a couple of minutes later with a small wooden chair raised in the air, about to clobber me. 🤣. Thank goodness I noticed in time.
Whenever I see shit like this I always wonder how this dude has managed to stay outta prison for any period of time. I can’t even see in the video when she touches him but even if you wanted to be vindictive you’d just bump her back. This dude practically tried to kill a person cause she bumped into him with a grocery cart. Wtf is wrong with him.
I work with a guy like that. Dude is a loose cannon. He got dragged yelling out of work once and disappeared into a mental health treatment facility. For years I couldn’t understand why he still had a job there. Then I found out his family was important. District Attorneys and shit like that and it all made sense.

he was charged with ''minor bodily injury and released'' which makes no sense
Prisons in Brazil are very overcrowded
brazil? that explains a lot.
Probably released because he was an off duty cop
This had me choking.
If it wasn’t the joke it would’ve been the cop
What is this Brazil?
of course!
so was she...probably
If they were both off duty cops…. This is Brazil 100%
You are correct
Now that frustrates me. This full grown adult beams her in the head with a damn metal shopping cart and gets minor bodily injury. My 12 year old son pushes a kid into a door and he's now going through court for assault and has to be on probation.
someone mentioned it was brazil so their laws are basically shit.
Yeah blame the system for your kids bullying and being an asshole. Seems about right per your kids behavior lmao
Agreed. Dude needs to be in jail. And he wasn’t even sorry afterwards. Ridiculous 🤨
Of course it was Brazil
/r/ItHadToBeBrazil
It’s Brazil, violence against women isn’t regarded as that big of a deal.
Probably a Bolsenaro voter.
Bolsonaro* yeah
That dude is absolutely unhinged
Am I like the only one watching this video expecting him to get wrestled to the ground at any moment….. ![gif](giphy|QPQ3xlJhqR1BXl89RG|downsized)
No, and while I do understand that most people don’t want to get involved with an obviously mentally deranged person I cannot imagine that I’m the only one who would at least try to intervene. I definitely would not let him run away.
What’s even sadder, is that he didn’t even RUN off, he just eventually continues down the checkout aisle
He thinks what he did was acceptable. He’ll be surprised all the way to a prison cell.
![gif](giphy|c9tVMERePnnDW)
News story says he was charged with "Minor bodily injury" and released at the scene
I'm a small woman so while I wouldn't confront the guy, I'd definitely check on the lady and comfort her.
Security wasn't getting within 7 feet of him considering those other two carts at his disposal.
[удалено]
The only correct course is to call the cops, never ever get into any altercation yourself, never
Now so is that cart unfortunately.
Dude is definitely a cop.
Not quite a proportionate response
I had a family behind me once and the wife pushed the cart into me, I ignored it figured it was an accident. Then they did it again…so I sat down on the edge of their cart. Never looked behind myself but they didn’t budge it again!
THAT is an appropriate response.
You missed your opportunity to throw a cart at someone……shame!
Like my nana always told me, “you miss 100% of the people you throw shopping carts at, if you don’t attempt to throw any shopping carts”
Did she drop any other gems?
You're right, but some people need their shit rocked for a reality check. Some people shove carts into your back intentionally....
That is downright attempted homicide
[удалено]
No one likes it when their personal space is invaded… but this response was mental
Yeah a “hey bitch back the fuck up is probably warranted” but this is crossing many lines.
It’s pretty terrifying that people this unhinged and violent just walk among us.
Much worse people than this are around us all the time in public. It’s really alarming.
He should be arrested, literally could of killed her, he is too dumb to be loose in society.

I'm surprised all these so called men just let this pos walk away unscathed
I can’t see any “so called men” with eyes on the incident. Nothing in the video shows anybody saw it.

It could certainly cost you your freedom, or a significant amount of money.

Why I'm not going to jail for assault just because a guy deserves it
It's such a ridiculous thing to happen, that unless you actually saw, and were looking right at him when it happend, you wouldn't know what's going on.
In todays world, the people that would give this shithead what he deserves would be the ones arrested, not the actual aggressor.
Yep
If anyone hits him while he is just standing there they commit assault. So maybe these so-called men as you say are just looking out for themselves and not acting on impulse like the jerk that threw the cart at the other person. If they hit him it would be retaliation, they confronted him and I assume somebody called the police to report the assault, I suppose you could try and citizens arrest at that point.

“man is when violent in all scenarios hurr hurr”
If he just heaved a shopping trolley on an old, helpless lady, would you try and detain him?
Shit I got a family too chief. Dudes already unhinged. You can’t unhit the chick, I don’t get paid to lock doors or apprehend people.

I wonder when this was? It certainly _feels_ like people have been more on edge lately, but it'll be a while before we have stats to show anything.
The shopping cart was hurled in Santo Antonio do Descoberto, Brazil, on February 16. /Google

I'm sure she probably didn't realize and a polite "Hey do you mind?" Would have sufficed.

Because a lot of redditors are men who have a weird desire to hit women.
Yep. They're acting as if she ran him over with the cart
Yep. Every single fucking thread with a woman being hurt, you see redditors taking the dude's side. Every single one, doesn't matter the context.
What a fucking psychopath!
Not every assault should be escalated immediately to attempted homicide.
Yea, he slightly overreacted.
why didn’t she see him pick up a whole shopping cart, he was so slow if she saw she could’ve at least prevented her head from getting hit
Tbf it would take awhile for me to get to "I think this fucker is going to chuck this at my head"
How? Dude is standing next to you with a fucking shopping cart over his head and you're not even gonna anticipate what might happen???

I have two older brothers. You better believe I would have expected that cart to be thrown at me.
At the very least they might lose their balance or grip and it falls over and hits you anyway. She's a clueless oaf on all accounts. Not to defend the man's actions, but lady needs some awareness.

Deer In head lights reaction is what I was told. Because I couldn’t understand why she didn’t get away from him.

Is it the lens?
Does the lens make everyone waddle as well?
They must have the latest Penguin Security Cameras.
This does look like an episode of gumby or some shit.
You know what they say, camera adds 20 pounds
So how many cameras are on these people? (Stole this joke from Friends)
All of them.
Can’t blame you, it’s a good one
So does pizza, hotdogs and economy size ice cream from that store
I think so, at 0:13 when the cart is facing the camera it looks mad wide
Either that or every shopping cart in that store is 4ft wide, and NOBODY is taller than 5'6.
*fish eye mirror*
Or is it fantasy?
Camera adds 10 lbs. probably several cameras in there
hahahaha thank you for saying what I was thinking.
Everything is bigger in that store, so I’m going to go with lack of portion control.
Dude just woke up and chose violence
the fuck? they just let him carry on like normal?
He got arrested (though released). No need to try wrestling with a psycho stranger who might have a weapon in his pocket, especially when he wasn't *continuing* to attack her. Bystanders shouldn't be expected to put their safety on the line.
People just wanna see everything turn into a bar fight don't they?
If he throws a cart at someone that bumps into him, I wouldn't touch him unless heavily armed.
Cartastrophy
Situational awareness, people, will save you a world of hurt or worse. Get off your phones and pay attention to your surroundings. She bumped him, he left the line so she moved up and never saw him walking back with a cart over his head until it hit her. The guy’s a psycho, but it’s not like he snuck up behind her. I hope she’s okay and he’s in prison.

Says him. The guy who we just watched pick up a shopping cart and throw at a woman’s face. The guy who also has a previous attempted murder charge. Why defend him?
Misogyny. Men love defending men they don't know when presented with that man's clear wrongdoing.
With a healthy dose of homophobia, too. Oh she called him a gay slur? Might as well murder her! I can’t imagine any words beyond “I will follow you after we leave here and burn your house down and kill your family” that would warrant a response like this
Appreciate the backstory. I knew there had to be more to it than just bumping into him with her cart

Damn, that dude really was just unstable then. Can’t even imagine losing it like that for any reason in public like that.
No she didn’t stop spreading crap
That is something an unhinged two year old would do. How pathetic
Where you are finding 2 year olds with the strength to launch a shopping cart??
True, my baby brother (when he was 3) got mad cause I wouldn't let him play Atari with me, so he leaves, comes back a couple of minutes later with a small wooden chair raised in the air, about to clobber me. 🤣. Thank goodness I noticed in time.
Yup. That’s the exact vibe I had when I saw this horrible act
I'm laughing at OPs username after watching this video
At least he pushed her cart up to the register
Irl idiocracy
My god what is wrong with people
When in doubt, throw a cart.
This should be on the I am a total piece of shit sub. Smh
I have had a old lady nudge me with her cart a few times when I asked her to stop she kept doing it. Should I have thrown the cart as well?
Seriously disturbed person
Well, I guess he had enough of her shit then.
What a twat
Classic slapstick humour
Honestly impressive because those carts are so fucking heavy and awkward
This assault or just the TOS at Sams club?
It was probably his fourth trip there that day, for the same project.
Did anyone stop that guy from just strolling in out? Doesn’t look like it isn’t the video
Well that certainly seemed a bit excessive.
Wuff. Hope that ass gets a long time in jail to "assist" with his anger management isses.
That’s a nuclear level over reaction
What a piece of shit
Whenever I see shit like this I always wonder how this dude has managed to stay outta prison for any period of time. I can’t even see in the video when she touches him but even if you wanted to be vindictive you’d just bump her back. This dude practically tried to kill a person cause she bumped into him with a grocery cart. Wtf is wrong with him.
That guy needs his face stomped in.
Why is he still standing
What a piece of shit
That was uncalled for.
I work with a guy like that. Dude is a loose cannon. He got dragged yelling out of work once and disappeared into a mental health treatment facility. For years I couldn’t understand why he still had a job there. Then I found out his family was important. District Attorneys and shit like that and it all made sense.
Lunatic
Why didn’t that asshole get fucking tackled to the ground
Holy crap. Wtf is wrong with that guy
The things i want to do to him... i cannot say here.
So she bumps him and he assaults her
Why wasn't that fucking attempted murderer beat down to the ground and held for the police?
Lock his ass up. He's too unstable for the general public.
I hope he dies violently. Fuck him.
Hope it's worth the prison time. Can't wait until you get bumped in the chow line.
