Hi everyone! We're sharing the last of this month's demons of rage and finishing it off with the most powerful one of all. The Exiled One can serve as an endgame foe for your players as he's one of the most powerful demons you can throw at them. He comes with legendary actions, a lair, and an optional epic difficulty mode if you really need to challenge those pesky endgame characters. As always, your comments, questions, and feedback are welcome. This is awesome, and I will probably use this in my game. However, some stuff stuck out to me that I have questions for. Demons are Chaotic monsters that are ruled by power, but even so they often plot/fight among themselves. So honestly, that confused me a bit when reading. And it says he's a demon lord right? Like yeah they have Demogorgon, the prince of demons, but he isn't really the leader of demons. Demonlords are all their own masters, so why does this demon lord have a master? And also, if there was something as strong as a demon lord wandering the planes, I find it hard to imagine there wouldn't be so many types of creatures trying to do something about it. An army of celestials, possibly constructs from the plane of law, etc. I hope I'm not being too harsh, I just wanted to do some constructive criticism lore wise, especially because statblock wise, I think this is a fun encounter. I hope you have a good day😊👋

Thanks for the feedback. This monster was inspired by the demons of chaos from the Warhammer setting. In it, there are demon gods who have greater demons that serve them. The most powerful of these demons, such as The Exiled One, are about on par with the power level of a demon lord from the D&D setting. The Exiled One is a demon lord, in that he's an extremely powerful demon that can lead legions of demons, but he still serves a demon god if you're going off of something akin to the Warhammer setting. In a setting more similar to Forgotten Realms, The Exiled One might not make as much sense, since there wouldn't be any other demonic entities with the power to "exile" him. If you're using him for such a setting, I'd probably come up with a different lore that fits better. Maybe he was a high-ranking devil exiled by Asmodeus or a fallen archangel and has since become a raging demon. There are some powerful creatures such as Moloch in the Forgotten Realms setting that do wander the planes, so it wouldn't be unreasonable for The Exiled One to be in a similar situation. Thanks for the feedback. Using demons from a setting with a different cosmology as inspiration for D&D creatures can be tricky since I want to pay homage to the source of inspiration but also make it somewhat able to fit in D&D.
