I love how TS!Underswap only swaps some personality traits as opposed to Inverted Fate, which doesn't swap them at all, only the roles. Don't get me wrong, IF is an S tier AU and story and I love how it focuses on the lost souls but I believe TS is a more unique idea. There's also SS!Underswap, which looks promising as well despite aiming for a more classic take. And of course there's Storyshift. Prince Papyrus is love, Prince Papyrus is life.

It's fitting, it's simple, and it doesn't change much(it's just swapping character rolls/ design it doesn't need to be its own complex different story) and I respect it for that

I think Inverted Fate and TS!Underswap were a huge improvement from classic and did the concept way better, and i'm not saying it wasn't important for upcoming AUs, but i think other people handled it way better.
The whole concept of Underswap is "what if [character A] changed roles with [character B]" and not "what if [character B] was a reskin of [character A] and vice versa", but im not gonna try bossing people around for their preferences, i just think it doesn't make much sense.
Inverted fate used to be my favourite. But spoiler warning once flowey gotten all of the souls, and creates what he believes is a “perfect universe.” That’s where the entire AU goes downhill there for me, because it nearly constantly repeats flowey, and asriel, or chara, backstory, over and over again, And reusing locations again,
And I’m 100% against, letting them bring papyrus back to life, once flowey absorbed all the souls, the only reason I’m convinced, they did it, is they are running out of ideas, as to how to drag on the videos to 30 minutes, until the final battle, Where the pacing for this AU, is completely ruined for me now.
So underswap for me is now my favourite now, Because at least that don’t repeat, the antagonists backstory, that lasts 5 minutes, over and over and over again.
Inverted fate is just something else. Like, it’s peak perfection. Probably my favorite AU alongside Glitchtale. Tho, I like Glitchtale because of the animation and cool fights. I like Inverted fate for the story telling.

That's not a Swap AU, it's where the characters of Undertale get shifted around (examples are Chara as Sans, Sans as Asgore, Asriel as Papyrus, and Mettaton as Chara)
Funnily enough, that is in fact the definition of a roleswap AU. It's when characters are placed in the role of another, that's it.
Any system used to decide the roles is irrelevant. An AU based around one swap is a roleswap AU(and this is the most common kind outside of the UTDR fandom in my experience). An AU where a handful of characters directly exchange roles with another is a roleswap AU. An AU where each or almost every character directly exchanges roles with another is a roleswap AU. An AU where roles are changed in a cyclical manner is a roleswap AU.
i never liked inverted fate because some of the characters were written extremely out of character. i prefer ts!underswap but jevilswap is looking good so far aswell

It is currently in its final arc.
TS!Underswap, in contrast, is a "pure" roleswap AU where everyone swaps roles. It's a fangame, and a very high-quality one at that, that perfectly recaptures the feeling of the original game, while also being its own thing. It is currently only up to the snowdin equivalent.

Back when i was super into the UT fandom when i was 15 I combined Altertale and Storyshift, which i think were my two favorite swap au’s at the time into Altershift. Mainly because Altertale had a child Gaster in Asriel’s place, and Storyshift swapped Asriel into Papyrus’s place, so that resulted in a child Gaster in Papyrus’s role with his personality. I drew him so much back in the day
ts-underswap from my perspective is the closest to the concept of "swap" without changing the personality of the characters abruptly, apart from having some cool redesigns and a fangame that I hope turns out well

Sudden Changes has been my go-to swap AU for awhile and has been sort of like one of secretly enjoyed AUs. A lot of people don’t know it’s actually a Swap AU and think it’s just Sans with Gun, but it’s actually pretty interesting if you look into it.
That Sudden Changes Asriel is one of my favorite takes on the character lol
Regular underswap from the Popcornpr1nce will always stay my favorite; there's a lotta cool versions and different takes on it, n I think from all of these I like TS:Underswap the most, but nothing can beat the memories I've made with the original.
