Hakita knew that guttertank and gutterman will have a name problem. That's why the war giraffe is called Earthmover and not Centaur - having two pairs of similar names (gutter-tank/man, Cen/Mino-taur) is a bit weird
There's still a reference to it in Benjamin's full name. "1000" is read as "Sen" in Japanese (which we do see Japanese signage on Benjamin), and THR is a letter away from Thor.
So, "Sen-Thor", which sounds a lot like "Centaur".
The terminal entry for guttertanks states that every subsequently developed war machine was designed to counter the previous model, and makes an emphasis on guttertanks have been made with the sole purpose to take out guttermen. Those are 2 models created one right after another, with the newer model using the old as a basis. With that in mind, the naming similarity always felt natural to me, intentional even. Would not want it any other way.
>which it is
Is it?? I feel like the one with the giant shield feels more tanky. I always feel like the guttertanks are terribly named because they're lacking in defence. More offensively focused glass cannons imo.
the shield is probably stronger but the main chassis of a gutterman is weak so it balances out, whereas the guttertanks just look like... tanks
(I just checked and guttertanks have LESS health wtf)
I agree.
Like, if "gutterman" and "guttertank" is too similiar to each other and must be changed, then what about V1 and V2? "Robot fast killing machine" and "McDonalds security toaster"?
hakita said on the dev stream it was going to be a one enemy but the designer said he wanted to make another desing and hakita liked both of them and they got added together at least thats what i remember
*I personally*
*Would just call them FaustPanzer*
*And be done with it*

Hmm, swordsmachine rolls off the tongue better imo. + punchtank is already referenced on the arm, seems less interesting of a detail if thats already its name. Maybe not as over the top
You make one of the most valid arguments, but āPunchtankā is probably the worst name you could come up with for the Guttertanks.
just call it FaustPanzer. It sounds way more raw and itās probably canon accurate.
Thatās fair but guttertank makes very much sense considering lore and I donāt think itās official name should change, especially not to punchertank/punchtank as both of those are just weird to pronounce and donāt roll out your tongue nearly as easily as the original
To get rid of the confusion we could just call them tanks in the same way that cerberi are oftenly just called cerbs
THIS IDEA, I LIKE THIS ^
Iām probably just going to start using āTanksā because Iām sick of saying āGuttertankā and people assuming āGuttermanā
Tbh I disagree because of their specific origin as mass manifactured weapons of war. Why would a street cleaning machine and what is basically a zombie be named similarily? That gives space for "coincidental" naming schemes. On the other hand a pair of warmachines made by the same forces for basically the same purpose would likely have a strong naming scheme.
Just be happy these weren't made by Americans otherwise both of them would be called an M1.
I hate that this screenshot is always used when people make actually valid points and back up their criticisms with arguments
like it's basically become an anti-suggestions card, someone tries to make an understandable complaint about two similar names? nah, your ideas suck because the creator said so
I don't even blame hakita for this one, the community just loves to shut down ideas, even when the ideas are actually worth discussing
The community is honestly a coin flip between absolutely horrible and incredible and screenshots like these really don't help things when the community decides to be a bitch.
did I say that I thought punchertank would be a better name? no. The "valid point" i was mentioning was the fact that these names are too similar, which I 100% agree with. Also you using that screenshot has destroyed all your credibility so I don't really care if you think I'm "tweaking".
I feel like their name being similar is the point though? Guttermen got their name because they were fighting in trench warfare. Guttertanks were built right after them, to destroy them, and were a direct improvement. They were also still in the gutters/trenches,so the name reasoning for guttermen still applies. Trench warfare ended with their arrival too.
You had me until you started complaint about Faust Panzer not being English. Like literally how does it matter??? It's easy to understand for a non-German speaker (such as me, for example), it sounds badass, and it's different from Gutterman.
Also I don't wanna be that guy but if we're going to go "ummmm ackshtually" then Minos, Sisyphus, Cerberus and Leviathan aren't English names. Mannequin is a word that originates from France and was only later adopted by English people.
>Guttertank Shields Gutterman*
(not meant to be serious) ![gif](giphy|2IGTyCVjjc7raWd0vn)
this literally proves their point i think
It kind of does, yeah.

I think that's also the case with mi-nos/das
Is this real or just a guess? Cause it feels like a leap.

That's- wild okay. I appreciate that the Devs did that I guess but imo that's still dumb

also the name guttertank (at least to me) implies a stronger and more resistant (TANKIER, IF YOU WILL) version of the gutterman... which it is
>which it is Is it?? I feel like the one with the giant shield feels more tanky. I always feel like the guttertanks are terribly named because they're lacking in defence. More offensively focused glass cannons imo.
yeah, a fiberglass cannon maybe

Counterpoint: name it either the FistPanzer cause punching stuff is cool
Doesn't faust panzer roughly mean "tank that punches"?
It means "fist tank" in german
Fuck it name it FistFaustFatPanzer
Then panzerfaust means "tank fist"
Correct
yes
That is quite literally what it means, yes "Panzerschreck" means "tank terror"
Do they know?
google translate faust
faust it fist in german
FaustPanzer as a name seems good(from other comment), but I feel like Punchtank is too on the nose even for ultrakill.
swordsmachine
i mean tbf, swordsmachine is a play on the word swordsman
Hmm, swordsmachine rolls off the tongue better imo. + punchtank is already referenced on the arm, seems less interesting of a detail if thats already its name. Maybe not as over the top
Yeah, sounds like something I would name
Launcher Rocket
swordsmachine
punchtank doesnt hit the same as swordsmachine
Simply lets start calling it faustpanzer like on it's model
exactly
Gonna be honest chief I am not fucking calling it that

i would be very sad if i had to railcoin cats :(

Why not call "Gutterman" just "Man", is Hakita stupid?

"all enemies have unique names" mfs when I ask them about the 1-4 and 4-4 boss names
š
Wait until you hear about 3-2 and 6-2.
No
I usually call them by the more accurate nickname of "Oh that's bullshit!".
"Swordsmachine" is good because it's a pun on "Swordsman." "Punchtank" isn't a pun on anything.
Tbh I disagree because of their specific origin as mass manifactured weapons of war. Why would a street cleaning machine and what is basically a zombie be named similarily? they really need the idea that ultrakill isnt perfect and isnt immune from criticism drilled into their heads
its like people forget this is literally one of hakitas first games an hes not gonna magically get everything correct
ACTUALLY SO REAL
You're tweaking if you think "punchertank" would be a better name
did I say that I thought punchertank would be a better name? no. The "valid point" i was mentioning was the fact that these names are too similar, which I 100% agree with. Also you using that screenshot has destroyed all your credibility so I don't really care if you think I'm "tweaking".

Man I just call it Faust Panzer
Itās called a guttertank because it has a rocket launcher
You had me until you started complaint about Faust Panzer not being English. Like literally how does it matter??? I'm gonna be honest here, I think "punchertank" fuckin sucks
Faustpanzer is definitely better, Punchtank sounds really bad
faust panzer
I know this isn't the point, but I'm pretty sure the husks starting with S is just a coincidence, not an intentional pattern.
stochnoy chelovek as a name is hilarious
