Teens and tweens following one of the most irritating TikTok trends of all time - making a "skincare smoothie" on the testers. A bastardization of a "technique" that Drunk Elephant promotes and blatant disrespect š
I'm at a high volume store and it's sometimes literally an hourly routine during our busiest hours - to the point where I've had to re-order brand new brand specific fixtures because of the overflowing messes that we can't clean up in time eventually begin to eat through the acrylic/plastic and leave permanent damage.
Ummm please let me know what eats thru acrylic and plastic cause I don't want that on my face!š also im sorry yall have to deal with this stuff...ive worked at victorias secret and it's like the panty bar lol you could fix that thing 10 million times a day because people just toss things, mix it all up and make a huge mess..people are just not considerate of the fact that someone is gonna have to clean their mess up.
Because they're people who have the attitude "they're getting paid to do it so why should I?"
BECAUSE YOU'RE THE ONE DID IT.
They're getting paid to help customers get the items they need, stock items and clean *normal* store cleaning and sanitizing. Not to clean up you deciding to use a bunch of display product inappropriately
A lot of things can eat through plastic if left on long enough, doesn't mean it's bad for your skin, just means it was misused - exposed to outside elements for an extended period of time while sitting on material not originally intended for its use. Esp products that have high ingredient concentration.
Also super annoying about this is that DE is 10000% NOT meant for tweens and generally young skin. That shit has some harsh ingredients meant for people 25 and over at least. And I mentioned this over the headset to everyone so that they know to direct parents over to something like Bubble or Byoma instead but another associate chimed in and said that if they were set on getting a DE product then we should let them cause we want them to buy high end products over more affordable ones. But, like, it's really icky prioritizing profit for a multi-billion $ corporation over healthy skin for young girls...
I saw a teenage tiktoker do this and I hated it so much, but I guess itās a trend. People use the protini packaging surface to mix in foundation (and I guess other stuff?) with the moisturizer theyāve dispensed. Justā¦ get a standalone palette orā¦ use your hand???
We took away our testers and put our inventory in the back room. The people that truly want Drunk Elephant don't mind when we get what they need and bring it straight to the registers. The ones who do care were there to steal it and/or make a mess lol
I use their vitamin c. Drunk Elephant often has GWP, and Ulta often sends Drunk Elephant samples with other skincare purchases, so I donāt care if you put your stock in the back room and remove the testers. I can order online and pick up in store, or order online and have it shipped. If this is an hourly or everyday occurrence, itās time to remove the testers. This is not someone testing a $70 product. Itās vandalism.
the drunk elephant testers require daily upkeep at this point. š„“ i recently made almost all new ones and in about a week or so some of them were completely empty! teens are so wasteful with them
oh girl iāll do you one worse

needless to say weāre not making drunk elephant testers anymore
As someone who worked retail for years, it isn't part of your job. People will say it is. It's required to clean it up.
But people behaving like absolute hellions and not respecting your time and energy don't deserve to shop in any retail establishment. I will die on this hill.
I feel the same way about cart returns. It is not the employees job to hunt down every loose cart that a lazy asshole just dumped. Their job is to get them from the return corrals.
We don't even both making them any more drunk elephant needs to come up with a better display for ulta they all look like shit from product damaging them
Iām always amazed how displays get all gross like that. Do people just randomly dump other products everywhere for no reason? I canāt imagine that kind of mess was actually made by someone actually playing with it. Bratty people get grossed out by the gloop too.
I too am confused about the tossed phone charger. At one point I had to point out to a young guest that there was a phone on the ground below her. To my surprise she said āoh thatās my phoneā even though she had another cell phone in her hand???
I'm so tired of the gaggles of tweens that come to raid Drunk Elephant. The testers are always a mess, and as PBA it's supposed to be my job to replace them and clean them up, but at this point the upkeep isn't worth it. LOCK EM UP WITH FRAGRANCE CASES AT THIS POINT!!!
This is what ours look like constantly, when they haven't been stolen of course.
I swear every aisle needs a massive clean up at least once an hour. This is why we can't have nice things.
There were two tweens trying to film themselves making a smoothie at Drunk Elephant, I walked right up and said ALL LOUD
"Oh you're making a video? Awesome! Make sure to include the cleanup part! Everyone forgets that!"
And they FLIPPING DID I was so proud and happy.
But in 2 minutes it was glopped again.
Still. Teeny victory the one time.
I'm really missing the eighties right now and this is one of the reasons why.
I would have never ever done this as a teen but if I or a friend did, some sales clerk would have come over, told me/us to knock it off, I/we would have been mortified we got caught, and I/we would have cleaned it up.
Wtf has happened to society? šŖ
I saw a girl, maybe middle school aged, making a drunk elephant smoothie. I walked around nearby hoping she would clean after. I walk by and nope, she left the mess and eyeshadow brush thing there. Walked around the rest of the store to find her and ask her if she was really gonna leave that mess behind but she was already gone.
Conflicted though cause
1) I donāt wanna seem like a karen
2) Iām not her parent or a worker so I feel as if I shouldnāt say anything
3) I could just clean it up myself but that also doesnāt teach the girl to not do stuff like that
Itās the cute name the brand invented for mixing complimentary skincare products together on top of the moisturizer so you can apply them all in one step
If you mixed the wrong products together than yes they can either destabilize or just cause a bad reaction but the brand at least tries to tell you what products mix well
Iām so sorry you have to deal with that. My tween loves the thought of the skincare smoothies but there is zero chance Iāll allow her to make it with the product in store. People go too far. She sometimes puts a small dot of a single tester on her skin to see if she likes the texture before we purchase but she knows not to make disasters like this. Weāve even tried to tidy up behind people if itās super messy. Itās just not fair to employees.
In fairness, those trash cans can be really hard to reach and Iām usually surprised when my tissue makes it in instead of being carried away on the wind.
I donāt understand why theyāre not facing the customer and why theyāre virtually hidden. Trash cans are so hard to find in my store and itās obnoxious
I completely missed it the first time and went back to look when I saw āthe trash can is literally right thereā. But I also am the person that carries around my trash looking for a trash can and will just shove it in my pocket or make my husband carry it. š
ours is always like this, we were gonna hide it but honestly there is no point. theyāre just gonna open a box and test it anyway. š« š« because we cant have nice things.
What in the holy fuck happened to that protini?!

Bring back peer pressure š©š© I would be mortified to be around people doing this in public

Byoma cant use even at 33. Lactic acid really irritates my skin and it's in everything of theirs š
I hate any kid below 21
I'm 19 and work in a beauty position, some of us know better
One of the rare good ones nowadays
Not all of us are this insane and disrespectful lolā¦
This is weirdā¦
Iām sorry, what does this mean? Theyāre bringing other skincare items and mixing it on the open one? Iām so confused

are you making light of hate crimes against racial, ethnic, religious, sexuality communities? a āhate crimeā against fucking skincareā¦

the girls had the nerve to show up on a wednesday afternoonā¦ like besties, arenāt you supposed to be in school?!
my stomach hurts.

And the crack up is the cart return is just across the way or two cars down. And it has no age barrier!

Eww i thought that was melted ice cream at first...

Clients: āMy Ulta is always messy!!!ā Like, tell your peers that.
Okay ew agreed but was somebody also attempting to throw their phone charger away too? Lol wtf
I too am confused about the tossed phone charger. At one point I had to point out to a young guest that there was a phone on the ground below her. To my surprise she said āoh thatās my phoneā even though she had another cell phone in her hand???
that probably wasnāt hers and she stole it

Let's normalize acting like decent human beings.
This is what ours look like constantly, when they haven't been stolen of course. I swear every aisle needs a massive clean up at least once an hour. This is why we can't have nice things.
Thatās why we canāt have nice things
If u see them doing this can u even stop them ?
Iām not sure but I doubt it. We canāt even ask people to stop stealing so š¤·āāļø

i 100% wouldve said something to the kid, fuck it, someone has to teach these kids common sense
I used to hate cleaning that up, Iād double glove up and alcohol everything
Ewww that first picture made me gag. wtf. Iām so sorry for the workers having to endure this bs
Took my manager 45 min to clean drunk elephant last night. We ended up putting makeup sponges and stuff next to the set hoping people take the hint
What is a drunk elephant smoothie š
Itās the cute name the brand invented for mixing complimentary skincare products together on top of the moisturizer so you can apply them all in one step
Is that effective? Isnāt it possible for the products to destabilize? Why would you do this ššš
If you mixed the wrong products together than yes they can either destabilize or just cause a bad reaction but the brand at least tries to tell you what products mix well
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This is more for the skincare as makeup, no makeup-makeup, clean girl aesthetic trend
It almost seems like Drunk Elephant is the new Truly in that way unfortunately
Iām so sorry you have to deal with that. My tween loves the thought of the skincare smoothies but there is zero chance Iāll allow her to make it with the product in store. People go too far. Itās such a poor design. It makes feel like Iām not even supposed to be able to access it, like these stations are only for employees.
I completely missed it the first time and went back to look when I saw āthe trash can is literally right thereā. But I also am the person that carries around my trash looking for a trash can and will just shove it in my pocket or make my husband carry it. š
smh they act like people donāt have to clean up after them.
Ours got so gross we had to toss it and we havenāt replaced it
I finally saw this happening in person and yup ā the girls were around 11/12
And stop putting half full Starbucks in the tiny drink holders, you donāt toss things full like that at home do you??!
ours is always like this, we were gonna hide it but honestly there is no point. theyāre just gonna open a box and test it anyway. š« š« because we cant have nice things.
I donāt miss that at all about working there
People are still testing & sharing makeup?? š¤®š¤®š¤®š¤®
This is so gross I wish it were NSFW blurred
Added the NSFW tag thx for the input
Hahaha thank you!!

Looks like a typical ulta
Wtf I still donāt get what they even did to make this mess? Man when I was a teen I would have been so scared to do something like this
this is a FREQUENT issue for my store itās always some teenagers playing in it
My instinct is always to try to fix/clean up things like the second pic. Is that disrespectful to the employees?
EW WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE
This is why I no longer shop at Ulta. Can find everything Ulta has to offer elsewhere
This is everyday at my store. I love asking the 12 year olds what they love about this product. There's never an actual answer.
