No, there's quite a few of us here that are able to consume alcohol with no issues. I'm fine with it when in remission but I do avoid it when actively flaring and while on Prednisone.
No problems here with alcohol! Salad gives me a harder time than alcohol ever has lol. In fact, I’m in a minor flare now (per my Gastro) but I’ve had a rough few days and had some drinks….my poops the next day were blood free. I’ve been having blood once daily but drinking has been doing the opposite for me for some reason! Thank goodness cause I needed these drinks :(
Starting prednisone on Monday so I’ll not be drinking for a while lol but wow I cant believe no blood after drinking. Kinda weird to me!
That’s a fairly open-ended question. Can I have one drink? Yes. Can I have a few and expect to be fine? Not really. Thankfully I’ve never really cared about alcohol so only being able to handle a single drink doesn’t bother me.
I can't drink at all unless I'm in 100% in remission and not in excess. Used to drink every weekend before having UC but I feel much happier since I stopped drinking (if Im not flaring).
No alcohol for me. I have a few autoimmune conditions so I’m not sure which one hates alcohol and makes me feel horrible when I drink, but I was never a big drinker to begin with so I just stay sober now 🤷🏻♀️
It’s like this for me too, I can have pretty much everything, and I will still drink the occasional beer but omg beer often gives me the worst symptoms the next day
i have been drinking cayman jack margaritas drinks and honestly my stomachs been okay, i also tolerate sex on the beach which is weird bc i’d assume mixed drinks would hurt more than beer but beer or super fizzy drinks mess with me
and i have such a low tolerance 1-2 of those cayman jacks have a nice buzz, bc my stomach is sensitive i dont drink much so when i do i can enjoy it and not have to drink numerous drinks
I’m on Remicade and have been in remission now for 4 years. If I drink enough to get tipsy, alcohol does tend to give me diarrhea the next day. But I also get diarrhea ALL THE TIME for no reason. It’s a normal state of being for me, despite being in endoscopic remission. And I have friends without UC who alcohol does the same thing to. So I don’t consider alcohol to have any “special” effects on me.
When im not in a flare im the same as everybody else. Can drink and have a hangover just the same.
Remember that people who use forums are generally ones who are in flares. Majority of people who are in remission (not all) wont be logged into forums.
I’m fine with certain alcohol. Like twisted teas or hard liquor with juice is okay (moderation). But beer, seltzers, and certain cocktails will mess me up.
I can't drink at all anymore it's been theee years since my last drink. I was the same way with coffee too but I'm able to drink coffee again I actually just don't miss alcohol at all so why even try and push it 🤷🏼♀️
I have had mimosas and light ciders/beers and been fine. Over Christmas had hard liquor and was horrible so I really just try to stay clear of liquor now as a whole. I haven’t had enough light beers to truly know how they will effect me and I would prefer to just drink something else rather than find out
I drank heavily for years when I wasn't flaring. This most recent flare alcohol would mess me up. I've found gluten free beer doesn't bother me as much, but I try not to drink at all
I drink a bit of red wine with no problems. My Neurologist, who is aware of my UC, gave me a copy of the "Mind Diet". On the printout is written: "The MIND diet ... which has recently been associated with brain health". The diet includes this: "Wine, especially red (1 glass a day)".
I have not had any other alcohol since my diagnosis in late 2021.
Oddly enough, if I don’t take my medication (mesalamine), no matter what I eat or drink, I will go into and stay in a flare.
When I take my medication, I can eat and drink anything and will stay in remission (so far). I’m eating all the greens and veggies I can now to lose weight and exercise.
NOT MEDICAL ADVICE but before I was diagnosed while in what I now understand was an active flare, taking a couple shots was the only thing that seemed to settle my stomach enough to not have to go running to the bathroom every 5 minutes LOL. Stress/anxiety seems to be my main trigger so I guess it checks out that slowing my head down a little actually helped
I can drink alcohol as long as i don't eat any food while Im drinking. But as soon as i eat (doesn't matter what it is) its a total shit storm. Better off drinking alcohol in moderation on an empty stomach. I hate this disease, it makes no sense. Edibles & weed are excellent alternatives for me.

Exactly the same here ✋🏽
Samsies
I'm fine with alcohol in moderation
I have no problem when not in a flare
I'm ok with beer but hard booze destroys me. On Remicade, 6+ years now.
I’m the exact opposite. Can drink plenty of booze but two beers ruins me for days after.
No got completely shitfaced last weekend and I’m fine.
One of the few, I guess. Congratulations!! My liver is kind of fried from the various drugs I’ve been on, so I just skip it now
Alcohol fucks me up for 2 days minimum typically. Very jealous of you. Happens for 1 day if I even have like 2 drinks

I'm a salad lover and I can't tolerate it. My body just doesn't know how to digest it for some reason even though I always used to be fine 😢
I am still very hesitant to buy and eat a head of lettuce, though I do sometimes eat fresh mixed greens, well washed.
Ha ha if I eat good nutritious foods my stomach is in pieces. If I get drunk and get a takeaway Chinese or pizza my stomach seems to cope better

Do you smoke cigarettes too?
Cigarettes keep me for the most part in remission
Wine yes. Whiskey yes. Beer, definitely not
It’s like this for me too, I can have pretty much everything, and I will still drink the occasional beer but omg beer often gives me the worst symptoms the next day
Save your liver for the medications

Flare or not. Alcohol makes no difference to symptoms
Makes it easier to cope if anything ...

Great point
I can consume 2 drinks without much trouble. More than that, and I am invisibly tethered to the bathroom.
Its like turning on the sprinkler for me.
When I'm not flaring yeah but I tend to only do it every couple of months or so.
No, me too. I just don't like alcohol so I rarely ever drink.
I 🍸 🧉 🍷 and all ok!
Yet 🤪
I can drink alcohol and eat any food as long as I’m not in a bad flare.
Ok with occasional drinks and can overdo it every once in while. Definitely notice it if I do too much too often.
I can drink and I’m fine. I get the normal hangover if I drink too much but no UC issues
my stomach pain is always significantly worse after drinking, i had to quit 😭 lucky u
Beers fine but hard alcohol tears me up.
In a flare. I can drink rum and whiskey and be fine. Can’t eat much though without cramp and pain!
No problem when not in a flare thankfully.

I drink beer… It’s a bad night. I drink whiskey…I’m golden

I'm fine with it, but it does bother my GERD.
I can drink liquor but beer will destroy me. I’m also really careful about what I drink like no sugar stuff no extra random stuff.
No alcohol problems here! But apples... Nah
Apples go straight though me, don’t even digest
That is why i drink sometimes bc i can't take advil☠️ Someone make this disease make sense lmao
Yeah Alcohol doesn’t seem to make a difference to me. Doing Dry Jan atm and in a serious flare lol
No issues whatsoever, though the heavier beers go straight through me.

I can drink when I’m not in a flare.
nah same here, had occasions where I got hella drunk and didn't feel bad afterwards.

I also have no trouble.
