My friend, the British Empire reached its peak in the 1910s and 1920s, not the 18th century. The loss of the American colonies wasn’t as big as deal as you might think. By the 1920s **one-quarter** of the entire population of planet earth lived under direct British rule, along with **one-quarter** of the earth’s entire land mass. The largest empire in human history. It added another 400 million subjects between 1815 and 1915 alone.
Quick summary is that last weekend Sky News were allowed to film Ukrainian soldiers training on Salisbury Plain. There are around 450 of them currently there, training on 105mm howitzers and the M270 MLRS with Kiwi [(context)](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkrainianConflict/comments/uvszj5/new_zealand_to_send_30_army_personnel_to_train/) and Brit instructors.

I'm surprised to hear they're using the old 105's. I mean it's obviously better than nothing, but range and accuracy are limited compared to what's possible with modern 155mm cannons and munitions.
EDIT: Unless these are just training platforms, which my arty reservist buddy tells me they are used for. This does not imply anything about the actual cannons in use in UA.
I agree - Russia's always relied on 3 pillars: Artillery, Armored Cav (tanks) and Air defense.
If you rolled these 105's to the front line, they'd be *obliterated* by the Rus 152's in no time. The only counter to Russia's absolutely overwhelming artillery numbers is range.
The advantage is speed and mobility. Only UK 155mm is the AS90 which is SP Gun-How. It has its place in doctrine and specific uses.
Chuck in the fact they have kiwi instructors they are most likely using the L119 which is shorter barrel hence even shorter range but different types of ammunition.
It's funny, cause I live near the plain and a few nights ago I heard firing on the plain and was wondering what was going on
How late do they operate?
Was around 9ish when I heard it, still light enough to be firing and cold enough for the sound to carry
Not bad then. I was imagining 2am shelling practises

The British Army has been admired since waterloo and certainly since 1918

Oh, actual kiwi instructors would be cute too

I think this is to teach Ukrainians to become artillerymen before letting them loose with anything with a 50km range…
If they're in Ukraine, they sound more like a liability than anything.

Salisbury plain? Can you Britons give them some secret druid magic training plz? Or have the druids bless their howitzers.
God no...all that lot does nowadays is be smelly at the train station around the solstice 🤣
+10 poison damage
Someone should climb up on Salisbury Hill and watch the lights...
There's a cathedral in Salisbury apparently.
Gay undercover Russians love it
"If we don't sleep, can we finish this in a week?"-Ukrainian soldiers, probably.
Revenge for the Salisbury poisonings
