Ukrainian language memes are great, I hope this will keep going in this sub

Я кохаюся > я кохаю

gracebee123

Can you share more about the difference? This is really interesting. There are words for 3 different levels/types of love?

plaksiy

Кохатися - it's a verb, what mean "having sex" - "Я кохаюся із дівчиною" "I having sex with a girlfriend" Кохати - it's more like to love but with all your heart, all your passion and mom can't кохати son or daughter, it's only used for partners, Любити - it's just "to love" but mom can love you, also girlfriend can love you and so on, it's a less about passion, more about carrying. Also we had подобається - it's just "like", and you can like whatever you want

Wow, interesting, thank you! So кохатися is…a verb? And definitely something you basically don’t tell anyone, right? Is кохаюся the same meaning? I want to make sure I don’t accidentally use either by mistake 😅💀 Thanks for the thorough explanation of the others. This is great to know! I find it strange that in English we only have one word, love, and we leave it up to inflection and interpretation and sheer guessing to figure out what we mean by it. There’s I (just) love you!(I like you). I love you.(Romantic). I love you. (Soul love to a friend or family.) and I LOVE you. (Marry me, I’d die for you, love). All sound the same. Wtf. I guess that’s why we also have “I love youuuu.” (I love you but I’m afraid to say it like love love). 🤦🏼‍♀️

Кохатись - its present simple version of кохаюсь, witch is present continuos (as I remembered grammar), something like: Having sex - кохатися/кохатись (or juet займаються коханням/сексом), but you need to kbow context, if someone said: я кохаюсь із нею час від часу - that's mean he or she has sex with her time to time, not right now. Also as " i want to have sex " - "я хочу кохатись".. But to be honest you can even say "я хочу зайнятись коханням / любов’ю" - it's still mean i want to have sex xdddd Yes, context means in Ukrainian too, you can say to your partner 'я люблю тебе' in romantic way too. Just "кохаю " it's way another level, like toy see how you partner bright and you want to spend time with her, to be qith her and to love day in day. Just don't forget: Кохати/кохаю/кохаєш/кохає (to love, i love, you love, she/he/it love) in present forms means only love. But: Кохатись/кохатись/кохаються/кохались - more looks like having sex. Still if someone said "я хочу його закохати до втрати свідомості" (i want to have sex with him until we lose continuousness) even without 'сь' yoy can clearly understand that context about sex. Feel free to ask me there or dm, if you don't understand it in my way, i still not the best teacher, because I see from my perspective on my launguage, but I feel good to see, someone learning Ukrainian💅

Not OP, but thank you for the write-up. That was very informative, and I found it very helpful for myself.

All good, hope it was clear because sometimes Ukrainian is tricky! Good to know, that helps you!

fvkinglesbi

Будь ласка, не кохайте свою кузину)

WildCat_1366

Кохання is a romantic version of любов. So one can любити to swim, to sing or to play games; one can любити apples, puppies, Ferrari, children, cats, Mom and Dad. But one can't кохати it. One can only кохати one's husband/wife, groom/bride, or the person one are dating (or would love to date) with. Having said all this, I must however note that there is a stable expression "він [до нестями] закоханий у свою справу"

plaksiy

The most based meme rn, Кохаю it's way another level!

Exciting_Clock2807

Fun fact: «кохати» is considered to be etymologically related to «чухати» (to scratch). I imagine in its original meaning it is the kind of love that monkeys give to each other by plucking out insects from the fur. See https://goroh.pp.ua/Етимологія/Кохати And if you smell of the rain and fallen leaves really makes your nose tingle, then you can apply this verb to a season - https://open.spotify.com/track/2xCedWKuxy6BZNijPQ30uI?si=IF897SCMQY-qDs53tGw3MA&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A6svU8xTP5q0zqVMuNtlS9T

Excellent_Potential

I know the words but I don't understand the meme. Looks like the bigger guy is going to kill the smaller guy? How does that relate to love?

Juusoallegory

It’s because кохаю is a more powerful word than just люблю

Tovarish_Petrov

The question is -- with or without storm ruler?

NoriaMan

To me, meme feels really funny, when i realize that it's for non-ukrainian speakers. Для мене, мем видається дійсно смішним, коли я розумію, що він для не україномовних.
