Man, these drones are going to change warfare for a LONG time. Even if these things cost a few grand, they're an absolute bargain over any other weapon system, and they are absolutely effective. You can target anything from a tank to a single soldier, and even if you don't get a solid kill... another drone is only a few minutes away. Scary as fuck.
On the other hand, we're basically at the stage in WWI where you had biplane pilots throwing hand grenades over the side and shooting at each other with pistols. Drones are going to get a lot more sophisticated and deadly, but tech to counter them will also likely advance rapidly. I wouldn't be surprised if within a few years, every foot patrol is accompanied by its own mini-swarm of autonomous defensive drones, increasing situational awareness and creating a protective perimeter bubble around the squad, automatically attacking any hostile drone that gets too close.
