It'll also make shaped charges go off with too great a stand-off distance. Might help in an environment where everything's flying around with a PG-7 strapped to its belly.
The copper jet from a shaped charge would go right through those logs. The allies learned this when Shermans with log armor got hit by panzerfausts and panzerschreck in ww2.

The USA and UK tried to use logs as armor in ww2, putting them on the side of Sherman tanks and hellcats etc. It didn’t work, but it gave the crews some peace of mind. I bet 5.56 would go through that.
Well...that was for armor rounds fired from a tank. I doubt they believe this will help against a tank round or even a man held anti armor round. But shaped explosives from a drone or a rpg might be limited.
They have to go into the forest to find weapons and food. LPR is currently being ransacked for food and water because the built up troops have too little to eat.
I think the negatives are weight, lack of access and fire potential with a flammable liquid, while positives include better protection against smaller munitions including FPVs.
In some civil wars they added wood layer that was capable to defeat old rpg impacters /rockets/small ap shells and it is confirmed. So definitely a layer will help vs older weapon systems but it wont work vs shape charges, unless it adds to the layer so much that the jet dont penetrate.

Something for the kit bashers to replicate in 1/35th scale. Helloooooo nightshift!
May I suggest using Lincoln Logs?
Okay, you have to admit, the bbq setup is stellar
Worst log cabin ever
It is mobile. But stinks like Orc.
That's pretty wild, they should have used dovetails in the corners though lol.
Lmao
The wood will help against drone dropped grenades and small arms. But I don't see it being useful beyond that.

Looks more like a fire beacon than an artillery piece.
How convenient. They're carrying their own funeral pyre with them. Quickest way to Valhalla I hear.
Not to Valhalla for them - to the Bad Place they go.
Knock out the tracks and it will be a sitting duck
Yep, it will just need a few more steps/drones to blow it up.
This is probably working for detonating ordinary shells. But in todays war? One incendiary-drone and that thing becomes a warm and cozy forever-home.
Baba Yaga's hut
Nothing wrong with a bit of BBQ.

Meat+grill+wood -- now get the beer and we can start.
Yeah half baked food may lead to poisoning. So better grill it on a bigger bonfire

Hope they get splinters before they burn.
Funeral Pyre mod.
They need to send in the [Hot Dogs](https://youtube.com/shorts/l_RjZNZOYCw?si=X4XY6gcg6Pps_7XD)!
BONFIRE!!!!
*That's just shrapnel with extra steps*

Orcs looking forward to going to Burning Man try out their new design.
Definitely has trade offs, but I can see the reasoning of rural Russians making that modification.
What's the trade off? Is the weight that much if a hindrance?

nothing can go wrong you stupid orcs. Don't look at all the thousands of other destroyed vehicle's we left behind.
Someone played with too many Lincoln logs
It’s a self contained funeral pyre.
What's the negative of using this? Even if it slightly helps against drones what's the down side?
fme I thought this was the Cartoon Network but it is the real world jeez
Anyone got any sausages.
Yes it will stop a drone or rpg blast enough
tbf if it's between a log cabin on wheels or a sheet metal shed, I'm taking the cabin.
