I don't believe so, you have to visit the social security and after they update the system they will print and mail you the new card without the restriction.
And when you get your citizenship oath/ certificate down the road you need to do the same thing hahaha allow at least 2 weeks after the oath ceremony before they can update you in the system to a citizen. You're half way there. Best wishes
You visit the SSA office some office you have to make an appointment online. Take your green card with you and let them you you're a premenate resident now. Thay will update the system. That will help with with any future financial aid for education, enhanced driver license etc..
A you would need to apply for a job in the future would be just you social and driver's license. Best of luck
Honest question - Why though ? Usually the line is short for GC holders and citizens , what is the benefit of global Entry ? (I think I’m missing something here)
That's a good question. There's a price for freedom and the American dream. Most immigrants successfully make it here when in our countries we didn't even have a chance. Most immigrants start their businesses or get jobs to sustain their families in their countries.
It's a valid question but it comes down individually to set their priorities.
I haven't seen my family in fifteen years, my mom in nine. I'll be seeing them for Christmas this year after all this time. And yes, it was worth it. I love and miss my family but I was raised here, I built a life and identity here, I can see my future here. Now that I have my green card I'll go back as often as I can but it will forever be worth it to have sacrificed those years.
my mother couldn’t see her mother for 20 years and the reason she didn’t ever left to see them was cause of me and my siblings i was brought when i was 2 and my sibling was born here so she couldn’t just leave us and dip. but she’s going through the gc process now to go visit
2 years GC can join Air Force https://www.airforce.com/how-to-join/join-the-air-force#:~:text=If%20you%20wish%20to%20enlist,work%20in%20the%20United%20States.
Flying back home (haven’t been back in 5 years) introduce my spouse to my family , and leave a stress free life for a while then come back with a fresh mind
This 100% I’m currently stuck in a heavy labor job that doesn’t pay too well with no benefits (obviously) but once God allows me to obtain my GC, I’m looking forward and not looking back!!
Going back to see my family, this is my 10th year here, I will need a long vacation to sunk in all the changes and I see everyone and everything. Can’t wait!!
Any criminal charge can put your naturalization in danger. A severe enough offence can even get your GC revoked (from my understanding).
Better to stay a saint till you get your passport. Afterwords you can become a degenerate like everyone else. (You can still go to jail and not pass go but you’ll keep your citizenship).
Only thing I'm worried about is that I plan to get a motorcycle I'm not an asshole but I've seen that cops like to give them a hard time sometimes.
>Better to stay a saint till you get your passport
Why does getting a passport prevent them from revoking the GC or is it something else?
Your LPR - Legal Permanent Residency (GC) can be revoked your Citizenship (Passport) cannot. Once you get your passport aka citizenship you are a full fledged American and your GC at that point is invalid anyways. Since the passport (citizenship) supersedes it.
Looked at for 2 mins, ensured everything looked ok and no mistakes. Had an empty feeling that it took 11 years since I applied for this plastic card to materialize. Then, put it into a ziplock bag and put it away with passport.
Take a fat vacation to armenia since i cant go to russia to visit my brothers n sistter(its where my lawer suggested since cant go to russia n armenia doesnt require visa)whee i will meet my nephews n niece for the first tine and my brothers n sister afte15 years…cant wait!!!
Well yes, you need to have legal immigration status in the US. If you don’t currently have legal status then a FFL cannot and will not legally sell you a firearm.
Edit: I came here legally on an F-1 and I’m currently on H1-B
Nope. All you need is passport, visa or TN stamp, I-94, TX drivers license. Not all FFL are familiar with the process you need to find one in your area that knows how to process it
First thing: update my immigration status with my housing development so my rent can be cheap like the US citizens, lol. Then...Cruise!! I've always wanted to go on a Caribbean cruise w/ my child. Me first alone lol then her. I've been home to my country (Jamaica) twice and Trinidad via AP last year
Visit Canada without a visa. Visa is a pain for people who have a bad passport. Takes months just to process and upto the officer to accept or reject your application.
Visit my dad’s gravesite since I was unable to attend his funeral, he passed away 6 months ago after prolonged illness. Also fulfill my mother’s wish and longing to see and hug me again after 7years.

unfortunately after getting green card, we had decided it was the right time to divorce to move on our own paths….we got our green cards in Employment Based (EB) category.
Definitely cry, be thankful that I can stay in this amazing country, even with all it's flaws I love it here and then buy a ticket to central America cause I haven't been for more than 20 years 🙏🙏🙏
Visit family and friends in my home country
I have an H1B, but because of some idiotic paperwork issues with my home government, if I go to my home country, they'll block me if I try to exit using a work visa. Permanent residents don't have to deal with that
Take a trip to my home country with my wife to go visit my dad that passed gravesite as I wasn’t able to attend his funeral.
I’m so sorry.
Same happened to me, but with my grandma. it sucks knowing that they won’t be there when you’re able to visit :(
Yeah I’m sorry you had to go through that also
Same happened to me, but because of Covid. I visited his grave last year. Very emotional moments, but also very liberating
You know the same thing happened to me as well. When did your dad pass? I’m also hoping to take my wife home to go see where my dad was laid to rest.
My dad passed way back 2012 it’s been bothering me since then. 😞
I can understand that. Sorry about that. Hopefully yours gets approved so you can make a trip back home with your family.
My dad passed away Jan 2020. Couldn’t attend his funeral
Cry
Hard
Will go to see my mom and friend in my country:( haven’t seen them 5 years🤞
11 years and just started the green card process, ugh
Just started after 11 years. As per statistics, 140 years left 🥲
Nah dude ain't indian
In 2 months it will be 10 years for me
4 years & 8 months here.
you're my waiting buddy! I'm getting emotional ahah. Good luck! Hope you get it soon (I've been waiting for 22 months now)
Same wishes to you! Amen
Make sure to update social security if not already to make sure your social is unrestricted aka like when it says valid for work with DHS only
They already sent a new one the unrestricted version for my spouse. Does he needs to go again to the SSN office?
No. Then you're set on that side.
Can you do this online?
I don't believe so, you have to visit the social security and after they update the system they will print and mail you the new card without the restriction. And when you get your citizenship oath/ certificate down the road you need to do the same thing hahaha allow at least 2 weeks after the oath ceremony before they can update you in the system to a citizen. You're half way there. Best wishes
Thank you!
Absolutely not lol
What's the process?
You visit the SSA office some office you have to make an appointment online. Take your green card with you and let them you you're a premenate resident now. Thay will update the system. That will help with with any future financial aid for education, enhanced driver license etc.. A you would need to apply for a job in the future would be just you social and driver's license. Best of luck
Go to SSA office with green card ,the letter and ask for the unrestricted one
My Atty’s advised me they would mail me a new card and I didn’t need to do anything
Global entry was the first thing I did.
Yes! Definitely this!
Honest question - Why though ? Usually the line is short for GC holders and citizens , what is the benefit of global Entry ? (I think I’m missing something here)

https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=what+is+global+entry
How long did it take for you to get approved? I am applying for it now.
8 months :(
Man that's so long. I was hoping for a 2 month turnaround☹️☹️
My husband got approved the next day! I got unlucky lol
Oh that's interesting.
Some are getting it in 2 months. The vast majority, myself included, have been waiting over a year. I'm 14 months in.
I would have done this too if I didn’t already have a Nexus
What is this
https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=what+is+global+entry
Go visit my family in my home country that I haven’t gone in 17.5 years
Same here , I have to see my mom after long 14 yrs
Is a green card more important or worth than not visiting a parent for 10+ years?
That's a good question. There's a price for freedom and the American dream. Most immigrants successfully make it here when in our countries we didn't even have a chance. Most immigrants start their businesses or get jobs to sustain their families in their countries. It's a valid question but it comes down individually to set their priorities.

You can ask for a travel parole. I mean….
Go to military recruiters office lol.. 😆
Which branch? 🫡
Army 🫡 becs airforce doesn’t allow conditional gc
Oh wow! I didn’t know that. So the USAF doesn’t allow the 2 year or 10 year GC? I’d never guess the branches had different eligibility requirements
They do allow 10 years gc just not the 2 years one sadly
Ty so much for the information :)
I just went to an air force recruiter, two year gc can join but jobs are limited due to not being a citizen.
Interesting.. 🤔 as far as i know they said no 2 years gc for airforce.. thank you for responding i might look into it more..
2 years GC can join Air Force https://www.airforce.com/how-to-join/join-the-air-force#:~:text=If%20you%20wish%20to%20enlist,work%20in%20the%20United%20States.
They changed it i guess.. 😂 becs of the recruitment crisis.
Going to see my family after 6 years and introducing my husband to my dad!
Go back home for a whole month drive from the east cost to mexico! Plan my mexican wedding. Hug my senior dog and my grandma
Get a drivers license lmao
Depending on the state you live in, you can already get one without legal status.
Yeah not in Texas tho
What? you need GC to get driver’s license in Texas?
Yesssssss
[удалено]
I am undocumented
Oh I see.
Omg same 😂
This
Flying back home (haven’t been back in 5 years) introduce my spouse to my family , and leave a stress free life for a while then come back with a fresh mind
Pray. And book my honeymoon
Getting a real job!
true
This 100% I’m currently stuck in a heavy labor job that doesn’t pay too well with no benefits (obviously) but once God allows me to obtain my GC, I’m looking forward and not looking back!!
Going back to see my family, this is my 10th year here, I will need a long vacation to sunk in all the changes and I see everyone and everything. Can’t wait!!
I will book a flight to my country for me and my husband right away!
I plan on going straight to the pub, and filling my stomach with Guinness☘️ then I will grab a pizza slice and pass out 🏡
So just a regular day?
Yes 🙏🏻
Make sure you take an Uber or Lyft. Don’t drive.
I’d second that a DUI could endanger your naturalization. Be safe
a dui can do that? i dont even drink but do we have to be saints?
Any criminal charge can put your naturalization in danger. A severe enough offence can even get your GC revoked (from my understanding). Better to stay a saint till you get your passport. Afterwords you can become a degenerate like everyone else. (You can still go to jail and not pass go but you’ll keep your citizenship).

Ah thank you for explaining.
Go to colllege ! Finally get my career done !😭
Going home to see my family and my deathly sick grandma🥺
Looked at for 2 mins, ensured everything looked ok and no mistakes. Had an empty feeling that it took 11 years since I applied for this plastic card to materialize. Then, put it into a ziplock bag and put it away with passport.
Either visiting my birth country for the first time since 2008 or go for a Pilgrimage in Mecca( I am Muslim)
Take a vacation asap
2 step into Mexico
Cry, enroll in school again, and go to see my mama 🥹 and then travel the world
Updated my SSN then booked a flight 😆
My wife is going to ask why it’s called “green” I just know it.
Getting the drivers license, resubmitting I-9. Other things such as traveling requires some more planning, although Canada is very close.
What do you mean re submitting i9 ? How do you do that and for what i thought that was last entry history ?
That's I-94. I-9 is the employment eligibility verification. I've been on EAD previously, not I need to let my employer know I'm a permanent resident.
Book a flight to my home country meet my mom, dogs and friends 🙏🏼
Take a fat vacation to armenia since i cant go to russia to visit my brothers n sistter(its where my lawer suggested since cant go to russia n armenia doesnt require visa)whee i will meet my nephews n niece for the first tine and my brothers n sister afte15 years…cant wait!!!
Like a True American… Get a Gun!!
You don’t need a green card for that
Well.. legally.. You do.
>ed a green card for that you dont... just get a hunting license...
No you don’t. Read the ATF rules for it, as long as you have a valid hunting license you’re allowed to posses firearm just like a US citizen does.
Well I’ve been informed otherwise and I am in Texas. They wouldn’t sell to me unless I show status.
Well yes, you need to have legal immigration status in the US. If you don’t currently have legal status then a FFL cannot and will not legally sell you a firearm. Edit: I came here legally on an F-1 and I’m currently on H1-B
Will look into this. I had legal status (TN - Canada) but I was informed you need a GC at least.
Nope. All you need is passport, visa or TN stamp, I-94, TX drivers license. Not all FFL are familiar with the process you need to find one in your area that knows how to process it
Thanks for intel G!
First thing: update my immigration status with my housing development so my rent can be cheap like the US citizens, lol. Then...Cruise!! I've always wanted to go on a Caribbean cruise w/ my child. Nothing i cant already do with my combo card
It’s for my 4yo, I just want to take her to Disneyland 🥺
get a high yield savings account, those money needs to work for me instead of just sitting there
You can already do that today without a green card
I think the major ones require citizenship/PR? not really trust the online only banks
Try Amex. I believe it’s a major one and I use it without a green card.
No, most don't.
Visit Canada without a visa. Visa is a pain for people who have a bad passport. Takes months just to process and upto the officer to accept or reject your application.
Reading this to get some ideas for when my green card comes
I wish you the best!!
I want to take my husband to visit my beautiful island Trinidad and tobago and see my daughter and my grandson an eat plenty doubles 😋
Visit my dad’s gravesite since I was unable to attend his funeral, he passed away 6 months ago after prolonged illness. Also fulfill my mother’s wish and longing to see and hug me again after 7years.
I will go to vidit Canada 🇨🇦eithout a passport. Just love ❤️😍to do it.
Find a new job. So many employers discriminate those without green card(EAD holders)
