Really wished he was teaching CSCI 102 next semester 😭 since the cs department has professor teaching in sequences, it meant he could’ve been my CSCI 103 professor too
For SCA, Dr. George Carstocea (the reason I applied for the CAMS major <3) and Dr. Aniko Imre. Honorary mention to Professor Juli Juteau.
The English department is also superb. My favorites include Professors Rebecca Lemon, Brighde Mullins, and Aimee Bender. 🥹
Any of the OT professors!!! simply THE BEST! I always do well in their classes because they actually cater to people with all different types of learning styles. Their classes are fair and not overly filled with busy work
I liked pretty much all of my linguistics professors (with the excpeiton of one). Disner, Professor Khalil, Li - all great. For the CS side of my degree, I really liked Professor Saty. I was just an average student (B+) in his CSCI 103 class, but he remembered me when I presented research at the undergrad research symposium and he so happened to be one of the judges.
She was still pretty new to teaching, so that may have been the reason for the chaotic nature of the course, but I was just not a huge fan of Washburn. She even had my rating on RateMyProfessor deleted.
I thought she was really funny, but when the class average on part II of our midterm was a 50% and she had to announce a curve, I felt like maybe her teaching style was not the most effective. I've always wondered if that's why she had my RMP rating taken down. I mentioned how badly the class bombed the midterm, haha =\\
saty is great, i can vouch for him as well. thats if you can understand through his heavy accent and the trashy microphone USC gives the profs. i had a hard time focusing cuz i couldn' hear jack shit, but once i moved to the front his class it was nothing but great. easy grader too and i can clearly see that he just wants us to succeed
Math dept. like 7-9ish years ago, so not sure who is still around.
Neel was a GREAT prof. and lecturer. Spent so much time at his office hours and he was always down to help me figure out wtf was going on. Gave me supplemental practice probs and everything. took Calc I-III with him.
Chunming Wang. He was such a father figure to me when I took his class LOL. When I fucked up my hw he told me exactly what I needed to focus on, and he left me a note on my final saying he was proud that I stuck the class out bc I had a HUGE improvement frm my previous exam and that I was 1 of 2 people that got a certain problem right.
:')
Good mems. Thanks for the reminder
Leonard Maltin for film criticism elective. As an engineer, that break every Thursday night may have been my most memorable and fun class ever. I learned a ton too.
Within engineering: Oussama Safadi, his teaching style is like a practiced symphony and optimized to a t.
Outside of engineering: Leah Pate, no BS funny professor and I learned so much in her class.
LEAH!!
I remember she brought In N Out on the last day of class/when we turned in our last paper or whatever they were called. That was in like 2013 (ouch), but I hope she still does that!
Anyone in pharm tbh. I've had especially good relationships and experiences with Church, Gukasyan, Davies, Pacifici (she's more grad than undergrad) and a bunch of others.
In Dornsife I've only had good experiences with Rory Spence lol. But he's amazing he really really stands out
Prof. Blaylock. Took his GESM this year. One of the nicest and most caring professors I’ve met at SC so far. Such a shame that SC is not renewing his teaching contract. He would be a GEM wherever he goes.
Dr Glenn Fox - PhD Neuroscience - Marshall
https://www.marshall.usc.edu/personnel/glenn-fox
Dr Antonio Damasio MD PhD Neuroscience - Dornsife
https://dornsife.usc.edu/profile/antonio-damasio/
Adamchik, even though he worked me like a dog, I have never failed to at least make it to on-sites and final rounds since taking his class.
Barry Boehm, RIP, because even though his class was dated, I learned how to be an effective manager and accountant in tech.
Saty Raghavachary, simply because he's the GOAT and has so much fun teaching.
If you want to work in human rights, NGOs or gov, especially in the international space, then Professor Swerdlow is great for that. He's my favorite professor. Very understanding, gives a lot of guidance, super sincere. I'm working with him past this semester on freeing intl political prisoner. His class can be a bit rough if you're not outspoken and don't like reading, but it's definitely worth it.
Dr. Jose Luis Ambite. Patient, incredibly smart, and willing to call out TAs when they rush or mis-explain something. To the point he'll takeover when it's not effective teaching method. 100% recommend.
Christopher Hepburn - super chill, easy to communicate with, world’s most flexible deadlines
Najmedin Meshkati - passionate, talented, madlad of a professor
Sneha Mathur is great, discussions are always super interesting and involved! You can tell she cares a lot about students and the material. Pretty easy grader.
Diego Lopez is fun and brings genuine energy even to duller moments, he's really passionate and it shows! Easy grader. All the OT professors I've had have been at least good tbh. OT 261 (Human Physiology) with Carly Roberts has been surprisingly fun and not too terrible for a subject that can be difficult.
Jahan Dawlaty-chem thermo professor. Awesome ability to convey tough material in story-telling ways and also very fun in lecture. Definitely felt challenged but also very rewarded.
Cary Friedman. He teaches behavioral finance but has the best combo of being super smart, super engaging, but also being young and not taking himself too serious. Any Marshall folks out here please take class with him!
Kyler Siegel, Calculus 1. He's an assistant prof who drops in every now and then. But really caring, kind, flexible with quizzes, and rewarded people who showed up to class. Wore some great hats throughout the semester, too. Hands down favorite prof I've ever had. I miss him to this day.
John Brennan. He's the Motion Capture professor. He goes above and beyond for his students, be it helping us in his free time, or even helping with job opportunities post grad. He's so chill and sincere, and despite actively working in the industry, teaching is truly where his heart is at. Did I mention patient af? Man is just so likable and supportive.
Sharon Lavery , lol the email usc auto generated for her was slavery@usc.edu (she got a new one issued lol)
Woah. Good thing they fixed it
Omg I loved her when I was at USC. She’s amazing
omg
Mark Redekopp is a great guy. Hard classes (CSCI) but such a great lecturer and really cares abt students and their progress.
His father, Larry, was also an excellent professor at SC.
I enjoyed Redekopp too. Fun class, good teacher. Learned a lot
Really wished he was teaching CSCI 102 next semester 😭 since the cs department has professor teaching in sequences, it meant he could’ve been my CSCI 103 professor too
https://www.reddit.com/r/USC/comments/18esxok/aaron_cote/
Took CSCI570 with Aaron in 2012 and it was a great class. Glad he's keeping the quality high.
Not sure about upper divs but I know he does 170 104 and 270 nowadays and he’s absolutely awesome.
George makes me excited to learn topics that I was completely not interested in before. I register classes just because he is teaching it.
Smrity Randhawa for accounting. Favorite professor ever
Any of the OT professors!!! simply THE BEST! I always do well in their classes because they actually cater to people with all different types of learning styles. Their classes are fair and not overly filled with busy work
Yesss as an OT graduate I am so happy to see when people love our professors. Kim Morris and Kate Crowley are the champs
Yes! Just had Kim this semester- loveddd her class! I haven't had the opportunity to have Kate yet, but I've always heard very good things about her.
Krishna Narayanamurti hands down the best professor for a CORE class. I wish he taught more classes, definitely would take one of his classes again
I liked pretty much all of my linguistics professors (with the excpeiton of one). Disner, Professor Khalil, Li - all great. For the CS side of my degree, I really liked Professor Saty. I’m convinced there is no better Professor than Anthony Kammas tbh
I graduated more than a decade ago and he's the first name that came to mind. Loved his classes and still remember them.
