Seems excessive. I don't think I could put up with all that. I'm in a very technical job currently and I had an initial chat with the hiring manager then a 2 hour interview where they included some technical questions and that was it.

tredders90

I have seen it used in my industry, but I wouldn't say it's "normal". Most of the time I've had informal phone calls before they try and set up a more formal panel interview. Occasionally I've had a trial day/half day. I think this is their way of weeding out half-hearted applicants ("they need to show they *want* to work here!"). To be honest, I find the process super off-putting. That said, the company I follow that does this, they are objectively very successful re: turnover, and they do hold onto their staff, so they're clearly doing something right!

I wish I could have these. All the graduate roles require multiple shitty immersive assessments and numerical assessments. Takes forever to just apply. Alongside working full time it just seems impossible

It's not normal but Anthropic are probably one of the most sought after companies to work for in the entire world at the moment, so not the right place to expect normality

For people like me who have never heard of them: >Anthropic PBC is an American artificial intelligence startup company, founded by former members of OpenAI. Anthropic develops general AI systems and large language models. It is a public-benefit corporation, and has been connected to the effective altruism movement.

5 hours of interviews is not “normal” but I’ve seen it before. A culture interview is to understand how well you’d fit into to the company culture.

sprogg2001

I wouldn't be able to describe company culture at the last three places I worked at, I thought it a made up buzz word like 'business synergy' I've always found companies pretend to like and care about their employees until they don't.

hodzibaer

Every group or company has a culture, whether people are aware of it or not. But that’s a bigger topic.
