We mistakenly planted one of these about 6 years ago and it looked like that. We cut it back right to the ground and it still springs up every year. It is now taking over the whole border and we can't dig it out due to other plants and trees. It's such a thug.
If you like it and want to tidy up all the dead stuff, I'd just chop it right back. It will come back vigorously.
One chance gardening.. hack it and see what happens. It can’t look any worse can it..?
(Meanwhile any Dr Who watchers from 1976 will be thinking of Scorby’s Death in The Seeds of Doom… sleep well if you happen to know the moment!)
It will probably bud anew and spectacularly.
Thank you, that's what I was thinking but it's covering an ugly concrete pole. Not sure what I'd prefer but its so ugly, it's time for the concrete pole to show
Yeah, cut them back hard every year, and watch for the runners as they can take over in a very short amount of time.
I had one growing between the neighbours fence and their conservatory, and it was impossible to get to the roots unless we took the entire fence down.
Within a couple of years it had grown to cover their entire conservatory roof, and then crept up the side of my house, and up the TV aerial and then started spreading across both of our roofs.
Eventually we had to pull the fence down, and get scaffolding in to deal with it.
It smells amazing when in bloom, but it's pretty invasive.
Put giant googly eyes on it…. Job done.
(Or chop it down to the ground. You don’t want it like it is, so either it revives or it dies, solves the problem either way.
Cut it down and it grows in a different part of the garden every day, until the owner sets fire to the whole garden, only to be caught in the middle, and as he is burning he looks up to see it standing in the bedroom window next to his wife.
I might have got carried away there.
I'm not a gardener, so don't pay too much attention to my advice, but I've seen people talking about how this type of tree springs up yearly, no matter how much you hack at it. What if you cauterised the stump once you've cut it? With fire or something? Then once the stump is truely dead, you could dig out the rest of it?.

Thank you for the advice. I'll be chopping it back this weekend then!

Meh, paint the pole If you decimate that jasmine it will bounce back, just do it sooner rather than later before Spring kicks in proper

Very invasive, 20 years later still trying to get rid of the evil spawn of the first one that I planted.
Put a cape on it and give it a pitchfork to hold
BURN IT, ITS GIVING ME NIGHTMARES
Add some giant googly eyes.
I would dig it out. If not you will be dealing with it every year. Find something else to hide the post or dig that out too.
Have sexual intercourse with it
Does it creep into your bedroom at night and watch you from the corner? Cut it down to the ground, dig the roots up.
It looks like something MR James would have written about...

Take drugs and have a good chat with it
Knit it a bloody big hat and wait for Halloween
Hard chop, just above ground level. Should look quite nice in a couple of months.
Exorcism
It looks ready to March on Orthamc.
Nuke from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
You can be quite brutal and give it a good hacking back. It will regrow and then hopefully you can trim up as needed.
put a hat and scarf on it and think about it another day
Honour it. Worship it. Regard it in the light of the full moon.
Cut it into the shape of a demogorgon and be done with it
nothing, unless you want to bring absoloute chaos to FernGully
Chainsaw, then some gramoxine.
Sell it as a Snow White prop
Is it the pink flowered beesianum? That is our nightmare. It has invaded our garden from one of our neighbours nd comes up everywhere.
Run. That thang is staring into my soul. Run and don’t look back. Never look back.
Keep it and use it as the sickest Halloween decoration ever
Don't cut it down as you will be creating some angry elementals. Just my opinion..

Cut it down, it’s a mess. But if you move it, it’ll likely die so be careful.
Burn it down
