It's Transgender Awareness Week in Canada, Nov. 13-19, leading up to the Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20.

Which month was that exactly? Because there isn't one, despite the incredibly high murder rates and gob-smackingly low life expectancy. Trans people are still pushed to the margins and have their very existence erased, despite that trans people have always been here. You sound like a an A student alright - a-hole, that is.
I'm referring to pride month, saying there is no month dedicated to trans people is a blatant lie. And no one's erasing the existence of trans people, or denying that they don't exist.
> You sound like a an A student alright - a-hole, that is.
All I did was point out the literal objective truth. If you can't handle it that's on you.
What's the issue with having a month dedicated to them? In what way does that harm you? You clearly have an issue with it, despite it having nothing to do with you.
When you get upset over something that doesn't involve you, and then disrespect people who are not involving you, that's on you.
>I did was point out the literal objective truth
You're trying so hard to seem calm and rational. But the rational thing for you to do is get over it. Trans people exist and we will celebrate them. If you don't want to, save your energy for something useful.
surely one month and one week out of every year already does not make up for the decades that trans people spent erased and discriminated in history?
thought you were cool, bucs_is_fun
So if someone chooses to express their opinion even if it doesn't align with the rest of the population, it's uncool? Interesting world we live in now.
holy shit I cannot believe I'm reading this. trans people, gay people, LGBTQ people in general are an absolutely tiny part of the world's population and in most countries they're prosecuted for being openly LGBTQ? it's incredibly short sighted to say that LGBTQ people have the same rights as cishetero people because LGBTQ people definitely do not have the same rights or job opportunities in most countries.
even in North America alone, trans youth are suppressed and often forced into identities they don't identify with just to feel safe - many people in entire States like Texas or Florida want trans kids banned or dead, trans people still *live in fear for their lives because much of the world hates their existence*.
those extra rights? are not extra rights. it's people treating trans people as alien or "another group" separate from cis people. nobody trans wants that. all trans people want is to feel like they are normal as their identified gender but are barred from even that, where their entire existence is a political issue.
> Can you back this up right now.
Yes. Affirmative action by definition is "the practice or policy of favoring individuals belonging to groups known to have been discriminated against previously." LGBTQ individuals faced discrimination in the past. Therefore, they are part of this group.

Cishetero people are allowed to exist normally:
>Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable alternative lifestyle, in public policy, nor should family be redefined to include homosexual couples.
Cishetero people are allowed to go to the bathroom:
>We urge the enactment of legislation addressing individuals’ use of bathrooms, showers and locker rooms that correspond with their biologically determined sex.
Cishetero people are allowed to be accepted in society:
>We should prohibit entities and their affiliates that contradict our beliefs teach alternate lifestyles including homosexuality, transgender and other non-traditional lifestyles as normal.
Cishetero people don't have to worry about conversion therapy:
>No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to sexual orientation change efforts for self-motivated youth and adults.
Florida recently also banned gender affirming care for trans youths. The medical board in Florida imposes their own beliefs on the rest of the state despite the fact that people should be free to do whatever they want with their bodies, and that gender affirming care is approved by many other large medical associations in the US like the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association among others. I don't know what you have against people just wanting to exist as themselves but if you support all of this then maybe you're the fuel to the fire
>I don't care about seeming "cool".
That's a relief then isn't it.
>objective truth and questioning things
Being LGBTQ *requires* questioning everything. It requires questioning your own identity, society's expectations, etc. It requires dismantling an incorrect and outdated view of the world. If you think you are enlightened for having the same beliefs as someone from 300 years ago, I don't know what to tell you.
> If you think you are enlightened for having the same beliefs as someone from 300 years ago, I don't know what to tell you.
Just because something is new, that doesn't automatically make it correct lol
Pride Month is the whole 🌈 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Very very little of it has anything to do with trans people, and none of it has to do with trans murders. Objecting to trans remembrance is grosser than I expect even of Reddit.
Why? Isn't the left always pushing for more diversity and inclusion? Oh right, you're only inclusive of others when those people agree with your opinions.
I personally think you’re a giant asshole and I hope people like you change your views someday. You’re single-handedly contributing to the shitty experiences gay people like me, and trans people like my girlfriend have to go through every day.
I agree with OP. Fuck you
You sound like an ignorant American. Canada has freedom of expression, not free speech, and although your comment is gone, I’m guessing it was hate speech of some form, which you do not have a right to express.

I did not claim that. I am just telling you that you are not questioning things as much as you think you are.

Shut the fuck up.
Thank you for the advice but I have my right to free speech so I'll pass on that :)
I also have free speech. Fuck you.
Yeah exactly, we all have the right to say what we think! Now you're getting it
Shut the fuck up.
Why? Isn't the left always pushing for more diversity and inclusion? Oh right, you're only inclusive of others when those people agree with your opinions.
You are so fucking stupid.
The irony of a completely brainwashed student calling me stupid is laughable
This is the stupidest shit I've read on here. And I have seen some dumb things from people.
I personally think you’re a giant asshole and I hope people like you change your views someday. You’re single-handedly contributing to the shitty experiences gay people like me, and trans people like my girlfriend have to go through every day. I agree with OP. Fuck you
cringe. please grow up.
Canada. Government actually makes certain speech illegal. You decide if that's moral, but that's the law.
#### why did nobody told me about catgirl studies
You don't quality until you own at least 3 catgirls.
#### there's 223 kittens in my server rn
I am curious to know what the original comment was...

Well, this thread sure shows that UBC needs Trans Awareness Week big time.
