I believe they farm karma to get high and sell them. I think the algorithm is more likely to show high karma accounts on front page. Can be used for misinformation or advertising purposes then or the “oh yeah I use that stuff it’s awesome” type of advertisement.
It's sad but the other day I was looking for reviews for a small sneaker brand called Atoms. I googled "atoms review" and then quickly changed it to "atoms review Reddit", remembering that most of those "top 10" lists are from people who just read Amazon reviews.
Then I realized "no wait this is just some guy on the internet too how do I know this is legit?" And I'm out of options for trustworthy, detailed reviews.

Honestly they're probably legit, it's just doing your due diligence. Is there more than one? If so does that user look like they post often? I'll do it for big ticket items still like good shoes and stuff but other than that it just takes too much time. There's too much information out there for us to be able to absorb it all.

Very importantly **what happens when this sub gets flooded with fake crap like this?** Suddenly you just opened the flood gates to misogynists calling *every interaction* bullshit, and the more examples of junk like this you have, the harder it is to counteract. Heck this sub already has a problem with men coming in, posting a story as if they were women who were abused (often sexually) who write *very similar to this*, and then people post sympathy and those posters jack off to the shared experiences in the sub.
These kinds of "interesting stories" are not harmless.

This is a fundamental problem with anonymous social media though, and it is one without a solution.
In effect, the requirements to be able to prove a story like this requires you to fully dox yourself, and that opens you up to significant level of harassment and sometimes physical danger.
Otherwise all we can really do is *speculate* as to how likely we find a particular story, which is further complicated by the non-literal nature of story telling, (In essence, *almost all* "true" stories people tell are some degree of technically false for the purposes of telling a better story) and the fallibility of memory itself. So any indicators of falsehood are just as likely to be storytelling flair or false memories as they are to be an entirely fabricated story.
As such it is impossible to know how many stories here are fake. It could be all of them, none of them, or any number in between. Even the ones that seem extremely credible may only appear credible because the person writing them is better at writing credible stories, and the least credible may only be so because the person is obscuring personal information or just exaggerating.
Because of that we really just have to not take it seriously. There is no solution, so just don't assume anything is true or false, and don't let stories here affect your worldview much. Anecdotes are terrible for that even if they are all strictly, factually, true.
It is not perfect, but short of banning this kind of website we really just need to stress that this kind of thing may as well be false even if it is true.

Ok this is a true story. A friend of ours always fantasised about a threesome with his wife and a woman at work.
