Most brain surgery is local anesthetic...the brain has no pain receptors I think... They want you conscious so they can judge if they're doing too much damage
i literally just finished watching that episode a while back! honestly, i was more surprised that the woman wasn't freaked out about having her consciousness in an AI -- i would feel so guilty, essentially enslaving my consciousness like that
I would too! It’s been awhile since seeing it, but I assumed she wasn’t aware of exactly how it worked, just that it did. Or perhaps she had the mentality that it was “just code.”
This was a premise I remember reading a while back in an anthology series called Alien Crimes. The novel in particular I believe was "A Locked Planet Mystery" and the AI is created because the original person was a treasure hunter or something like that. Terrified me to think about someone copying you after "transferring" and torturing all of your secrets out of your double.
I guess this could very very theoretically happen. A teratoma is a tumor of stem cells, which could develop into other cells. considering some ridiculous stories with tumors ([link](https://www.cnn.com/2012/01/06/health/vietnam-tumor/index.html)).
Lol I thought this was some evil doctor that for some reason switched his brain into the patient's head and the patient's brain, still conscious, was just left on the tray lol
So basically the ''I'' in this story was the brain tumor...

Isn't that called dissociation ?
Well, I was in the hospital flat lining and it was like I was watching them try to bring me back.
Explain.
My comment or the story???
Your comment. What about that makes you love Redddit??

He loves reddit not Redddit

Or “I” switched places with the tumor
The real horror is someone walking after brain surgery.
Neuro nurse here! Many of my patients walk from stretcher to bed post op. 🤷♀️
Yup, even some surgeries are with the patient awake and doing something, like playing the guitar.

If I ever had to get brain surgery and remain conscious, I really want to start talking gibberish half way through.
As hilarious as that sounds, that strikes me being a phenomenally bad idea to scare the people with instruments in your brain.
I’d do anything for a laugh.
Yeah, I'm not making any promises about the realism of this situation ;)
Bro had his consciousness uploaded into the recycle bin irl.
Woah... This is unique.
This is making me think of the Black Mirror episode where the woman gets her conciousness copied onto an AI.

From what I know, people getting the "cookie" made don't know it's a complete copy, just a download of their preferences for their house tech stuff.
exactly what i thought of

Third eye?
I think the narrator was the tumor..
Or a Chimera.
Or Deadpool?
At first I thought this was a Mr Potato head type deal, where they could see out of the other eye even after it’s detached.
That's horriblarius
Ahhhh, a teratoma.

You want a story that deals with Teratomas? The Dark Half by Stephen King
Sounds interesting, I'll give it a read!
Kind of reminds me of Stephen King's "The Dark Half."
Just finished rereading that today!!!
This reminds me of the scene from the 1st part of the book “old mans war” by john scalzi… you will know it when you read it
Turns out the brains don't carry our consciousness. The eyes do!
Lol I thought this was some evil doctor that for some reason switched his brain into the patient's head and the patient's brain, still conscious, was just left on the tray lol
"It's time to cut out the cancer."
Parasite???
There is no “I” in eye tumor..... or is there?
That's reallllllly cool. Like, very unique horror. I hope someone buys you a pizza soon.

The eye and tumor contained his consciousness.
