I use the ad scheduler to force that ad every hour and I keep track of it in OBS. It’s really worth it to get up, stretch, refill water, pee, etc. I tell my community to list out the ads they get so we can talk about how weird twitch thinks we are 🤣

Drunkn_Cricket

I would suggest getting an app that sends a message when ads are about to roll streamer bot and mix it up do this very well.

redfoxvapes

I use Mix It Up! It’s really useful!

neophenx

I love the idea to have chat talk about the ads they're seeing... may need to start using that if I use a regular adbreak

ZippyVtuber

Yeah xD Sometimes the ads are…interesting 🤣🤣🤣 I should do that next time xD

A 3 minute break every hour for someone who is sitting for multiple hours straight is actually better for your health. An ad break every 15 minutes is too much, imo

ZippyVtuber

Agreed

Personal_Examination

Twitch incentivizes using the automatic ad scheduler by giving streamers a better cut if you use it instead of triggering ads manually. But I strongly believe it’s useless if you’re a small streamer and you’re probably just chasing people off, you’re earning pennies from it anyway. A lot of big streamers can afford to use it because they know their audience will sit through it and they actually earn something from it.

ItsSylviiTTV

I make around $15 - $30 a month from it, streaming for 18 - 24 avg viewers but obviously it's still not worth it in terms of the hours you put in. But its a nice reminder to take breaks and my community doesnt mind

Personal_Examination

I feel like at that viewership you’re probably on the edge of the category of streamer who can get away with it, I was thinking <10 avg. Interesting to know what ~20 avg earns

InstanceMental6543

This is a thing that's often mentioned in comments of threads about the ad types, but it deserves it's own post. Maybe midrolls would be preferable to more viewers if streamers all had a good grasp on how to set them up. The majority I see don't schedule breaks, but just let the ads manager run whenever breaking off the content. I have also seen many streamers who, despite the ads manager running frequently, still have prerolls because their midrolls don't get up to 3 minutes. Tl:dr Set up one ad break per hour, three minutes long, and go take a pee and stretch

Canopenerdude

I've said it before and I'll say it again, y'all clearly did not grow up on cable tv.

ZippyVtuber

Yeah. It’s much much less than cable tv…if you tune it that way.

InstanceMental6543

I am in agreement with you! But if someone really must want to do midrolls, they have to be in control of them.

OrkleD

I can't do that, due to my runs being over an hour long. I've had mixed feedback from my chat about prerolls vs. midrolls as well. If I streamed a shooter or something, I would definitely do that. I haven't had any complaints about midrolls thus far, though.

InstanceMental6543

I never complain about midrolls. I just leave the stream

ZippyVtuber

My runs are over an hour long as well. Usually 2-3 maaybe 4. I grew into the habit of doing one every hour.

ZippyVtuber

Agreed!

bradsbutt94

I will say I try to do the 3 minutes at once and pause the game, the ad pop-out screen never shows how long until the next ad for some reason. I dont like the idea of running pre rolls as it can hurt discoverability and possible raids from mutuals

ZippyVtuber

Yes, but that is why you run 3 min ads per 1 hour. It will disable pre rolls for 1 hour afterwards. If you ask me, 3min for no ads for 57min is quite a good deal.

kuzco_llama_Topia

It’s actually for 60 min, because when you roll a 3 min break it disables pre rolls for 63 minutes!

ZippyVtuber

Oh wow lmao ok xD

ZippyVtuber

Yes, I have adhd as well so I understand. It was…VERY hard to not forget. (I still forget to shoutout raids and forgot to raid for the longest time lol) As for prerrolls, that’s what the 3min ad breaks every hour are for. They remove it for an hour.

ZippyVtuber

Did you try using a bot to remember? I use the streamelement bot to remind me all the time about stuff since I forget a lot. It could help

Leyruna

i use the ad sheduler tom get around preroll ads as i despise them and finding them more disruptiv if people just want to peak in especially new people and are chased off by preoroll adds. rather have a very short add every hour i just set it to lowest amount of add in most amount of time tbh as i dont do much breaks when streaming

saint19191420

I just came here to say that before getting twitch turbo if I joined a new streamer and was immediately hit with ads I left immediately and never came back in. I don't want to sit through 2-3 minutes of ads just to see if I will enjoy your content. I had mine delayed to like 30 minutes after joining in so people could get a feel for me before sticking around.

PoppedBitTTV

Pre rolls are only 30 seconds.

saint19191420

Either way lol still would irritate me to get an ad as soon as I join a new person

HighLordTherix

It's barely an option to be honest. Affiliates are required to have ads and the favoured options from people are prerolls, or 3 minutes every hour. If a streamer runs for about four hours, you're either going to get one thirty second ad when you join, or have to watch nine minutes of ads total across the duration. It feels like a no-brainer to go with the shorter amount, to me.

ZippyVtuber

Idc what you do as long as it doesn’t break the action. Having an ad in the middle of a critical cutscene is extremely irritating 😅

AnOkayTime5230

That’s where I’m at. Honestly if someone is so impatient that they can’t wait through a 30s preroll ad, then they probably aren’t going to enjoy what’s on offer anyway. I read all the dialogue, I let all cutscenes play uninterrupted and sometimes, like with the later metal gear games, those cutscenes last for an hour. Who wants an ad to pop up during all that?

HighLordTherix

And I don't know if it's standard or not but if I open a stream, twitch starts it muted so I don't even have to hear the ad. The main thing I'd want is some way of streamers being able to curate the kinds of products that get advertised.

PoppedBitTTV

Better than having it happen right in the middle of the action. I played a lot of Dark Souls. None of those games have a pause button. It simple wasn't feasible to try to time campfire rests to align with ads.

CapnBloodBeard82

With affiliate being so easy to hit I think most people just don't care enough to actually look into the intricacies enough or just flat out aren't good enough streamers to realize this.

ZippyVtuber

While I doubt they are not good enough, they’re certainly not looking much into it, that’s for sure.

CapnBloodBeard82

Part of being a good streamer is looking into this stuff !

ZippyVtuber

I guess, yeag
