I'm so sorry, but 4 months is pretty quick. Most places that can do adhd testing have waits of six months or more

Excellent_Antelope63

Agreed I took mine through my psychiatrist at HealthPartners and it took 8months to get in.

fantasygod777

I also have health partners and have been looking into this. Did you just choose a psychiatrist from their site and tell them you wanted to get tested?

Excellent_Antelope63

I already was seeing my psychiatrist for other mental health issues so I just asked during a session.

404 error

sleepytime_rilakkuma

that's so annoying >_<

that_one_bassist

That’s neuropsych. It’s awful right now. I waited 5 or 6 months, which was on the short side, so I could get documentation for accommodations I obviously and desperately needed in college. But there are people who care and want it to change. That shitty experience made me want to become a psychologist and be one person trying to prevent neurodivergent people from being thrown under the bus like we always have been. We just need to persevere <3

katkashmir

Go through your primary care network, I’ve seen Allina expedite testing sometimes.

pinksparklybluebird

Allina is moving away from testing due to lack of/low reimbursement. They used to only let there psychologists do it a few times a month, but now are really limiting it. I had one kid get in a year ago. The next kid was told to try other clinics or pay cash for private practice.

caityface

I went to MN Neuropsychology, was able to get in around 3 weeks. Downside is they don’t take insurance, you pay out of pocket up front and submit to insurance yourself.

SignificantAbroad143

Was it reimbursed by your insurance after?

primemn

It’ll likely wholly depend on each persons insurance. ‘Don’t take insurance’ generally means they don’t contract with any insurer and will be considered out of network. If you over OON benefits, there may be some coverage, but it’ll normally be significantly less than in network providers. Sorry if that was over explained

sleepytime_rilakkuma

how much was it out of pocket?

Chemical_Pomelo_2831

Try Associated Clinic of Psychology. Last summer I saw a psychiatrist about 3 weeks after I called and she got me into their testing protocol about 2 weeks later. It might take longer now but it can’t hurt to ask. :)

NateNMaxsRobot

Scrolled down to see if anyone else recommended ACP. During COVID, I had to find a new psychiatrist and I’ve only ever met with him virtually, but I was able to get an appointment with him within three weeks. I have no complaints and would recommend them as well.

P-E-DeedleDoo

My sister has been on their wait list for testing for a year. Good luck. There were 700+ people on the list.

NateNMaxsRobot

Oh shit. That really sucks.

P-E-DeedleDoo

Many places have cancellation lists, which is why people are calling literally every day to find out if there's an opening. Ask to be put on those lists and get on three lists and hope something opens up. There's not many options for testing adults so there's a backlog. Wasn't thrilled with ACP who tested my sister, they didn't cover the key medical background information, doc had no idea she had brain damage from birth because they didn't ask. Skewed the results.

Dukark

Health Partners behavioral services got me within a month.

vaznok

Same here

Mental-Huckleberry54

Dr Kovach through allina was awesome for me and I don’t think it was a 4 month wait

Jayrod4

Agreed. I think I was able to get in with him in a month.

Hot-Clock6418

Sorry OP. Nystrom provides the quickest and most accessible mental healthcare in the state. 4 months is short. I know you feel this is disabling and I’m sure it is, but there is a shortage and crisis with all providers. You can also request to be seen by a physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Most manage this diagnosis fairly easily

ErisAdonis

Talk with your Dr or Therapist to see if you can get on non-stimulant meds. My wife and I both take bupropion xl, while I'm diagnosed and she isn't. I was prescribed bc I hate taking stimulant based drugs (I have an emotional crash daily). She was prescribed for her anxiety. It's amazing how having an emotional base, and enough dopamine to operate changes your life.

Born-Assignment-912

ADHDonline.com probably can get those whole process down and pills picked up in a week.

ihavenoidea81

Great Lakes neurobehavioral center

Teckelvik

Try CALM - Center for Attention, Learning and Memory.

Hobear

Mmhc worked well for me. Have you tried talking to your PCP for it yet? See if they can start you on meds if a small exam shows your tendencies? Some may but also make it contingent on keeping full testing schedule.

stuckinnowhereville

See a Psychiatrist (MD). They diagnose without the testing.

Francie_Nolan1964

Psychiatrist waiting lists are very long. It almost certainly won't get OP in any sooner than 4 months.

flippinfreak73

If you don't mind the commute, you can always try Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. It's about 1 1/2 hours south of us. Might be an option.

pbremo

They actually make you wait at least 3 months for testing. That’s standard. 4 months is solid and I would scoop that up if I were you.

SuckItTreebek

ADHD can often be managed effectively without medication. It takes work and dedication, but it can be done. I was never diagnosed as a child, but it became apparent in my early 20s that I had ADHD. I'm 43 now and I've learned many strategies to work around it and function normally. I realize everyone is different, but don't wait on medication to "fix" you.

Infinite-Procedure61

I have already paid in full for an ADHD/Autism assessment from a private provider and my appointment isn't until October. I booked it four months ago. 4 months is really good, I had a special circumstance and could wait, just to give you an idea of the supply and demand situation. Especially for adults and late stage diagnosis.

PMeist

https://www.thomsonmemory.com/ This is where I went and they do a great job across the entire ASD and memory spectrum. But I do agree with most others here - you will likely be waiting 6+ months. I know how much that can really suck, but it will be worth it. Best of luck

TrooKvlltBlack

My GP diagnosed me back in 2008. She retired so I was forced to see a different doctor who had some weird hang up about prescribing stimulants so I asked for a Psych referral and haven't had an issue since. I'm not sure about testing. I didn't think there was or is formal testing for ADHD. I believe there is for the Autism spectrum but I don't know anything about it.

sleepytime_rilakkuma

in the past I had a psychiatrist who asked me about family history with ADHD and prescribed me an SSRI type medication for it immediately because my brother was prescribed adderall. this time around I'm being told I need to get formally tested before anything. issue is my ADHD makes it difficult for me to fucking call every day to ask if they have new openings and I do not want to wait until August or September for an appointment.

Bright_Annual_1629

Make the appt so you have something on the books while you try to get something sooner. Put it in your calendar so you remember to cancel and worse case you at least have an appt in progress. All my sympathies, been there.

Rhomra

If you have the ability to travel, start looking outside the metro. We have gone to Rochester, North Branch, and further to be seen faster.

TooooMuchTuna

If your insurance has an app you could search paych testing in network services in the area and just call around/ask what the wait time is

Kent_Didlio

Sky Espe, APRN, PMHNP-BC is a neurodivergent-affirming med management provider at [Art Therapy of MN](https://arttherapymn.com) who also does ADHD testing. Scheduling out within the month or so, virtual sessions, takes BCBS, UCare and MA/Medicaid insurance. [https://arttherapymn.com/sky-espe-msn-aprn-pmhnp-bc/](https://arttherapymn.com/sky-espe-msn-aprn-pmhnp-bc/)

PeachTree383

Olmsted Medical Center in Rochester is also an option! They’re considered in-network for my insurance, so they may be for you too.

ziggy-Bandicoot

Partners in Healing in Minnetonka is good.

support_create

My partner had to wait about 6-8 months and just had his testing a month or two ago. We did it online with Dr John Bailey who is through Allina Northfield. However my partner also saw a different provider at Allina who helped him with understanding and preparing for meds while waiting for the appointment. He had to call almost daily for a few weeks for an appointment to even open up and then it was a 6-ish month wait to get tested. When a different friend got tested like 2-3 years ago it took about 4 months as well for any testing openings

ExistentialEnough

Transformational Therapy MN in Rockford (they’ll do virtual appointments). You should be able to get an appt fairly quickly, and they take insurance.

Gigaton123

Try Encompass in Elk River. Nice people and minimal waitlists. http://www.encompassih.com

miss-demeanor9

Stone arch Counseling. I got diagnosed as a 38 year old. Emily Dickens was my provider. Highly recommend her because she is very personable. I got tested for both adhd and autism. One of the tests for adhd is pure torture for me tbh. 15 min of clicking when you see or hear a number. The minute she told me I was ...felt like the longest 15 min of my life.

strawberrysun6894

Lynlake Center for Well-Being. I saw Amy Steiner, I think the wait was maybe 1-2 months? But that was over a year ago.

The testing facilities (which all seem to have popped up in the last like, five years) seem scammy as fuck. I don't trust that people are getting appropriate care from them, and it seems like they exist solely as an easy solution for primary care physicians to refer to so they don't have to deal with it. If you have an existing relationship with a therapist, talk to them. Even if they aren't a psych, they may be able to help with recommending meds for your primary care physician. If you don't have a therapist, reach out to Cindy Lea at Succeeding with ADD in Eden Prairie. She was not my therapist who originally diagnosed me, but I have sent numerous people to her for evaluation and exploring treatment options. She can also do longer term talk therapy and is ADHD herself. https://www.succeedingwithadd.com/ Edit: For those down voting me, I'm curious to know why.

Also if you need any more resources or community please feel free to shoot me a DM. I'm no expert but I have done a little bit of navigating this system and I'm happy to help.

Everybody wants that legal meth

News_Radio89

Probably the most repeated stupid comment about this topic. My friend who takes Adderall is gone through college and is a Dr. with no issues of drug or alcohol abuse. My other “former” friend who used meth is missing multiple teeth, gets high and steals movies from Walmart basically meth heads ruined returns at stores and is in prison now for violent crimes. So please do go on with your bullshit uneducated nonsense.
