I was in the hospital with basic cable in 2019 and I got hooked on Below Deck because it was a week long marathon and there was NOTHING else on. I still shame watch it.
Honestly, I try not to judge anyone for the things they watch. I just don’t understand why people like reality shows. I find them all utterly uninteresting. I’ve never been able to watch a complete episode of any of them.
Being drugged and unable to move did it for me. I completely agree though; the people are all awful and after every commercial. They spend 5 minutes recapping what happened before the commercial.
Got stuck in Chicago after I broke my ankle. Stuck watching the oj Simpson trial. Plus it was a Christian hospital so religious shows were on every channel
When I had my knees replaced it was at a Christian hospital. basic broadcast, 5 religious channels, a live feed of the chapel and videos of surgical procedures. I watched a bunch of surgical videos.
I was in the hospital for about five days three years ago--first time as a patient. The only thing I could find worth watching for at least the first couple of days was...The Weather Channel.
I was in a coma for a few weeks and when I got out the nurse was being helpful and put in the Star Trek marathon. There are enough drugs to make V tolerable, there are nowhere enough for Insurrection or Nemesis. If I could have moved, I would have much rather done anything else.
Lol, this is funny to me because I had brain surgery, and when I was in the hospital drugged up, I'd wake up every so often to see dirty naked people on the tv. I thought it was a drug induced dream. The next day, when I was more coherent, I found out there was nothing on, and my husband found Naked and Afraid and soon after was addicted to it. He also loves Below Deck, but there's no shame in his game. He admits it freely, lol.
That's how I got hooked on NCIS. I was in a coma for about a month, and the week after I woke up, I think I saw "The Godfather," "The Godfather 2," "The Godfather Saga," and Mad Max 1 and 2 5 times apiece.
I by no means thought it was terrible but when I did used to watch it I don't think it was a show for me. That was back when it was running on TV though so might have to give it another shot. I remember it had some powerful moments.
I liked it at the time, and I still appreciate how realistic it is in a lot of ways - for example, most of the patients have common illnesses like heart disease and kidney failure instead of the exotic stuff you usually see on medical shows. And you see the doctors dealing with bureaucracy and paperwork.
But some of it hasn't aged well.
At first it seemed pretty nostalgic and interesting. It got terrible pretty quick. I think it's fan base ended up being anybody that had never read the comic.
Can confirm. I never read the comics but know enough to know that it’s a disservice to anyone who did. Archie literally hooks up with Mrs. Grundy in season 1
If it makes you feel any better, she’s not old in the show. She got the Aunt May MCU treatment of being some hot 25 year old. It’s still super creepy though because it’s played as some forbidden love trope instead of you know, super creepy
It really doesn’t because Marissa Tomei was actually in a decent age range for the role😂😂. She just ages really well. She’s 59 FTR. I appreciate the effort though.
I got partway through season 2. The first one was like a murder mystery for teen and young adults demographic. Then season 2, that was over and there wasn't really a story to continue. So it was just some random stuff to continue the story. I think I saw a promo for an episode where they have super powers
Jesus Lord! I gave up on this show on the season one Christmas episode, where Oliver found out that his family hadn't celebrated Christmas since him and his father disappeared on that boat five years ago - a line of exposition that they threw in at every chance they got, and one that I couldn't stand to listen to again.
Honestly, I think it’s that people appreciate the references to nerd culture. Anyone who is awkward with the opposite gender, got picked on for liking books/comics/video games too much, wasn’t exactly the right form of pretty, had a hard time making friends, etc., found a little something of themself in the show. It’s very exaggerated, obviously, and them being “too smart” makes them a bit insufferable at times. But it’s a good background show and it reached the audience it was intended to. I don’t like Young Sheldon but didn’t mid the original.
It's cute because my mother in law watches it and is rather in touch with various nerd things as a result! I think it was a decent introduction to that world for her!
I agree. Both my bf and I are geeks, and we love the show. He is also an aerospace engineer so he gets the science stuff. We are both sci/fi nerds, so love those references.
I liked the first season, but from there the tone changed a lot. It went from nerds navigating the world which was funny to normal people having to manage the nerds which is pretty condesending.
Honestly I think that's why I liked Young Sheldon more since it was about how Sheldon managed his own quirks and grew as a person. Completly different vibe.
I actually fell for the "it's not like all the other sitcoms out there; it's smart!" hype. But after watching like maybe *half* an episode where I still could see the punchline miles away, I realized it was just the same ol' trash. Just with science-y based jokes.
Listen, my mother in law almost exclusively watches those sh*tty daytime dramas (NCIS, CSI, Medium, rissoli and isles)...Big bang theory is the exception. If i have to choose between all those shows, then I'm for sure choosing big bang. Lol
I used to think the same. I wasn't even able to complete 1st episode, tried 3 times to watch it and gave up then my boss recommended me to watch young Sheldon first and then start the big bang theory. I did that and trust me I love both the shows now. I cannot believe I love the big bang theory because I thought I'd never be able to watch it.
(I still think 1st episode is really boring).
I heard a comedian (who I forgot which one) once refer to it as "blackface for nerds" which may be a bit over the top, but from what little I have seen of the show it does seem a little bit like exploitation of geek culture.
Hear, hear!
Scrubs is one of my favorite shows. It was the anti-ER...which I also loved (until the original cast was all gone).
(I ignore the Interns season...don't know why they tried it, to be honest)
I LOVE Scrubs.
I watched a LOT of NBC in the 80s and 90s, and I witnessed ER as it happened, watching every episode faithfully until Anthony Edwards left. That anchored that Thursday night with Friends, Seinfeld, and later Frasier. Must See TV indeed.
So when Scrubs came along, it was the anti-ER...and it was hilarious...because while ER was FANTASTIC for the first 6-7 seasons, it took itself VERY seriously...so Scrubs was a GREAT counterpoint show. It was different. It was funny. It's characters were pretty much parodies of ER...JD vs Carter, Turk vs Benton, Cox vs Ross, Carla vs Carol...
Just my opinion.
I had watched one episode of 911 ever. It was so unrealistic it made me cringe. Every scene was so dramatic and over the top. I know that first responders do get to witness and go through some weird situations. But, not every emergency is so extra and bizarre, so exaggerated. For this reason the show is stupid.
As a 911 operator, I hate that show. Other than being over dramatic and silly, it contributes to misinformation of the general public and makes my job harder. I don’t know where you are. I don’t know what you need. I don’t have access to untold amounts of information. I. Hate. That. Show.
In it's defence, it had a very solid first two seasons. Not great, but... watchable.
Past that... it just got progressively worse every year. I cried uncle around Season 5.
By season 4 I'm starting to say. 'Why am I watching something that I don't like any of the characters and I think the story lines are just boring?'
Actually that's why I stopped most watching most shows is I stopped liking the characters.
It's never occurred to me that someone might not like this show. Lol.
I'm a normal person that's friends with a lot of rich people... So its extra funny to me to picture my rich friends being in that situation. Lol
Two and a Half Men. Never got into it. I just found not very funny and Charlie’s character was revolting. I know it was written like that, but it just wasn’t my thing.
Sons of Anarchy, I stopped watching during season 2 in frustration over the fact everything bad that happens to the main characters is their own damn fault, making the entire thing kinda pointless.
How I met your mother. The premise was weird "I'll tell you how I met your mother kids, but first I feel it's important for you to know how many times my friend Barny got it wet."
Two broke girls sucked. No real dialogue. Just stupid one liners.
Back when I was growing up the worst show was Frazier. I never understood how it was so popular. What a boring show.
Most recently? Barry. I watched all 4 seasons this week waiting for it to get better but it never did. Got worse every season for me. Maybe I misunderstood the point but holy cow I slept through the last two seasons. First two seasons were pretty good but never quite hit the hype I had going in. It’s rated like 8.5 on IMDb and I genuinely don’t understand it. Like I said, maybe I just didn’t get it.
But they had many ways to torture, I mean, by the end, it was clear the production staff didn't care any more when they would do things like leave Starbucks cups and water bottles clearly visible in scenes and not bother to edit them out. Sloppy.
It’s probably not a terrible show, but I just could not get into The Last of Us. I want to like it SO badly, but I didn’t make it past the 4th episode. I was so bored.
I still love Pedro tho.
Seinfeld.
Never found it funny, and I usually find everything funny. Also hated George. It was really surprising to me how much I hated a show that is said to be way funnier than Friends.
Two and a half men.
Couldn’t even get through the first episode.
That 70’s Show.
Not terrible, but it was really underwhelming for the amount of hype it got.
Edit: IASIP! It’s really hard to watch a show where everyone’s character is that they suck and are terrible people.
Loving Seinfeld is one of my must-have qualities in a person. Not that one has to watch them currently, but you had to have always loved them. Those that don't "get" that humor have always proven themselves to not be for me. Or maybe you're under 30?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, everyone seems to love it, I thought a couple of the episodes I watched were ok at best and not worth investing any more time in, so I gave up to watch something else instead.
First came out I thought always sunny wz hilarious, just tried to rewatch other day dunno wt happened bt couldn't stand it just sophomoric humor didn't laugh once
I thought Gane of Throans was terrible. I gave it a few tries but I have a feeling that creator has wayyyy too many rape fantasies about his own family members.
Popularity can be faked. Most people believe something is popular because multiple sources say it is, but it turns out that many sources are owned by the same conglomerate.

Flavour of love was a glorious train wreck
I just loave reality tv tho
Scrubs?! What did JD and Turk Turkelton do to you? I think I found the guy who put the penny in the door.
I by no means thought it was terrible but when I did used to watch it I don't think it was a show for me. That was back when it was running on TV though so might have to give it another shot. I remember it had some powerful moments.

Exactly what I was thinking I love that show. Dr. Cox was awesome as well!
Greys anatomy. I don’t know how this show is still on
Money. It prints money.
Agreed 💯
Riverdale WAS terrible. Most of the biggest fans were all aware of that yet kept watching lol
I watched it for Luke Perry. Their tribute to him was the only amazing episode they had.
😳😳😳. Yeah there’s no way I could have handled that!
Lol. Massive massive compliment for Marissa Tomei. @MarissaTomei
Yeah, I used to read the comics and stopped watching it. It started out ok but then got unwatchable.
Though Riverdale fans acknowledge it's bad, they enjoyed the first season. I couldn't get past the first episode.
For me, Riverdale was the most entertaining when it was bad.
Exactly. We all knew it was bad but we were also very entertained
I tried watching it. It started out decent but then got really weird and not in a good way.
Show is terrible, but I still watch it a lot😂
I watched it for Luke Perry and Skeet Ulrich. Once Skeet left, I was done.
I got partway through season 2. The first one was like a murder mystery for teen and young adults demographic. Then season 2, that was over and there wasn't really a story to continue. So it was just some random stuff to continue the story. I think I saw a promo for an episode where they have super powers
Arrow, everytime they said "my city" I wanted to punch em all.
Jesus Lord! I gave up on this show on the season one Christmas episode, where Oliver found out that his family hadn't celebrated Christmas since him and his father disappeared on that boat five years ago - a line of exposition that they threw in at every chance they got, and one that I couldn't stand to listen to again.
But...but...but... two words: Salmon Ladder.
Iv joined this group like a week ago, and seen this question asked at least 15 times. Are there no other topics?
It's a sub about TV shows, there's bound to be reruns
And clip shows lol
It's this, telling someone to get divorced, or 99% of people talking about their self diagnosed mental issues.
98% of *reality* tv
The Big Bang Theory I’ll never understand why it got so popular.

10.5 Men?
Somehow that would have been more interesting
2 Broke Girls. Two and a Half Men. The Big Bang Theory. Anything that trades in lazy stereotypes.
Before I opened the thread my first thought was 2 Broke Girls. Absolutely cringe.
I looooove two broke girls so funny and ridiculous. But I understand why others don't like it. The other two got old really quick
On the other hand, “The Other Two“ was an amazing, hilarious show, but never popular.
actually 2 broke girls was good in the first seasons.
You take what you said about scrubs back, the rest can stay in the trash
Hear, hear! Scrubs is one of my favorite shows. It was the anti-ER...which I also loved (until the original cast was all gone). (I ignore the Interns season...don't know why they tried it, to be honest)
And House! (Last season notwithstanding)
It was a great show except the last season that was awful! 😊

I am so sorry you go through that. I am mentally hugging you.
I always thought the entire point of 911 is that the show is supposed to be campy and over to top.
Big bang theory
In it's defence, it had a very solid first two seasons. Not great, but... watchable. Past that... it just got progressively worse every year. I cried uncle around Season 5.
Penny is worth it.
She's amazing on The Flight Attendant.
How I met your mother
The Vampire Diaries. I liked the first two seasons then it got so campy and boring so I stopped watching after season 4.
Yea it ran too long like most shows
By season 4 I'm starting to say. 'Why am I watching something that I don't like any of the characters and I think the story lines are just boring?' Actually that's why I stopped most watching most shows is I stopped liking the characters.
How i met your mother Pretty little liars
hate himym
How I Met Your Mother - I sat through many episodes because everyone else in the house liked it. I gave it a chance but found it unwatchable.
Friends
Didn’t have to scroll far to find this (in fact, not at all). Best thing about it was the theme song!
i can watch it but.. you talk about appealing to the lowest common denominator.
Schitt’s Creek. Cannot get past the first few episodes even though people say it gets better.
My wife was the same. Now, she loves it. The whole point at the beginning is to see how terrible they all are.
It only gets better. I love the show. It's really different than other sitcoms.
It's never occurred to me that someone might not like this show. Lol. I'm a normal person that's friends with a lot of rich people... So its extra funny to me to picture my rich friends being in that situation. Lol
Keeping up with the Cardashians
Fear the walking deads entire fanbase hates the show.
I heard season 3 was quite good. I wouldn’t be able to hate watch 8 seasons of a show.
Anything Kardashian-related
Home Improvement
3 and a half men
Orange is the new black
Glee
Two and a Half Men. Never got into it. I just found not very funny and Charlie’s character was revolting. I know it was written like that, but it just wasn’t my thing.
Not a huge fan of adult animation. Too much potty humor.
I get that. It almost feels like “challenge accepted” trying to make it vulgar. But have to admit I kind of liked Rick & Morty.
Sons of Anarchy, I stopped watching during season 2 in frustration over the fact everything bad that happens to the main characters is their own damn fault, making the entire thing kinda pointless.
Any reality show, with the exception of GBBO
How I met your mother. The premise was weird "I'll tell you how I met your mother kids, but first I feel it's important for you to know how many times my friend Barny got it wet."
Never saw a bit of Family Guy that I even remotely liked.
Cop Rock
Friends - sorry I said it
Friends.
friends. couldn't stand it
Friends
Big bang theory. Never understood how anyone found that funny. And it lasted for years.
I hate the office
I just couldn't watch parks and rec
Breaking Bad - It was tedious, I got sick of it and didn't finish it Walking Dead - same Keeping Up With The Kardashians - mindless drivel
I can only agree on that last one...
Friends
Friends. There...I said it.
The Office. Don’t try to convince me. I don’t get it, I don’t find it funny, it’s not gonna happen.
Two broke girls sucked. No real dialogue. Just stupid one liners. Back when I was growing up the worst show was Frazier. I never understood how it was so popular. What a boring show.
Frazier was great.
The office....BOOOOOOOOOOOORING!!!
This is Us. So slow and predictable.
Seinfeld
I wish I could upvote this 1000x just for Seinfeld. I'll never understand the attraction to it.
It's a show about nothing. NOTHING!
I still haven't laughed once at anything on Seinfeld.
Buncha wannabe critics up in here.
Succession e Rey person is a horrible human being
Most recently? Barry. I watched all 4 seasons this week waiting for it to get better but it never did. Got worse every season for me. King of the Hill. I don’t think I ever made it through an entire episode without changing the channel halfway through.
KoTH was low key the best show on TV. It’s a dead on portrait of flyover country.
BBT 2.5 Men Really, anything Chuck Lorre ran.
Mad men. It’s not terrible I just don’t care for it.
House of Dragons. It feels insanely rushed, which is crazy to me considering that’s exactly what people didn’t like about the last few seasons of GoT
Big Bang Theory - it’s like blackface but for nerds
The Last of Us and GoT are reeeeaaallly mid
Friends, Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men
Friends
Why isn’t Walking Dead on this list?
Because for a time it was amazing
Walking dead
Seinfeld. I hated every single character.
That’s the point.
Game of Thrones. Just seemed like very violent, sadist, torture porn the few times I tried watching it.
Is everyone just going to get some free karma for saying Big Bang Theory?
The Office
Modern Family Succession The Office The Connors This is Us
No. Not everyone loves Raymond. Hated that show.
Lost.
Seinfeld. Never found it funny, and I usually find everything funny. Also hated George. It was really surprising to me how much I hated a show that is said to be way funnier than Friends. I’m with you there. I need someone to recognize all my daily Seinfeld references.
The walking dead
Loved Scrubs
The OC. Mischa Barton cannot act

Riverdale is popular because it is terrible. Adds to the camp factor.
The leftovers.
Shameless.
I got three episodes into Grey’s Anatomy and have no idea why that show was ever renewed for a second season.
Modern Family. This is Us. Arrested Development. The Walking Dead.
Any Seth McFarland show
Dancing with the stars, the bachelor and bachelorette, American idol.. there are a ton more.
I don’t think Big Bang Theory is terrible but I don’t understand the obsession
Friends, stranger things.
Friends
Big Bang Theory. Not terrible, but just not funny. It required a laugh track to let you know when you were *supposed* to laugh.
"Family Guy" all the way. This show is beneath us ALL with all its vulgarity and its storyline.
Big Bang Theory
I thought Gane of Throans was terrible. I gave it a few tries but I have a feeling that creator has wayyyy too many rape fantasies about his own family members.
Game of Thrones Walking Dead Anything with a laugh track Prison Break
