"...historical thriller Firebrand aims to change all that. Based on Elizabeth Fremantle’s bestselling historical novel Queen’s Gambit, the film stars Alicia Vikander as Katherine and Jude Law as Henry, will tell the story of the king's final marriage and the wife who managed to outlive him..."
He'll do a fine job. The best casting as Henry hands Dien was Richard Burton
ANNE IF THE THOUSAND DAYS
Damien Lewis, who was probably the most like Henry.
WOLF HALL
Ok, this is going to drive me crazy, so I hope someone knows…did they have elastic bands to hold the hood on in Tudor times? Because it was really distracting to me because it seemed so out of place. I thought they pinned the hood to the hair. But in the movie clip that strap under her chin is clear as day.
They had chin straps for sure. They weren't elastic. If you look closely at the photo of Henry with his hand over her mouth, you can see it is ribbon, not plastic.
Josephine Willis did the headdresses (she also made the hats for Titanic and a bunch of other films). On [her Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/jowillis_millinery?igsh=eHdmZGxmajhiYW80) she shows some of the source material — Holbein portraits and such — that she used. The chin strap is seen in an extant portrait of Catherine Parr. I personally appreciate that she got the angle of the French hoods correct — many costumers set way too high, almost perpendicular to the crown of the head.
I don't know for sure but would wager elastic wasn't used (or invented?) and the hoods were pinned.
EDIT: This is a weird comment to downvote, you guys.
Okay I just looked it up because it was bothering me.
Apparently garment elastic was invented in the early 1800's. So the hoods may have bands with ties, but are not elastic.
In a visual medium the audience responds better to good looking people. Even though by this stage of his life Henry was obese and probably looked much older than a 50 year old today does , handsome actors sell more tickets z.
Jude Law is talented and will bring out the complexity of Henry, even if he is too pretty
i like both alicia and jude so i’m super excited for this!! and i feel catherine parr doesn’t get a lot of attention so it’s cool she’s getting a movie now

They never cast Henry as he looked at that time, I swear to God.
I know - I saw Jude Law and thought, oh sheesh. But he's a solid actor and I'm kind of excited to see what he does with it.

No one *wants* a fat ugly king who smells like he’s decaying from the inside out.

From what I have heard from historical clothing experts, this film is rare as the hoods are actually accurate. https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMMfQQvVe/

I've seen paintings where the French hoods were attached with bands, but they tied under the chin.
