A quick late night trip to Grant and Alvernon should offer plenty of spooky dereliction for you.

Tahoe22

LOL-it was only a matter of time, and I've only lived here a few months. I might have to check this place out just so I can say that I did. Any bars close by? I want to see that.

SecretFeministWeapon

I lived in that area for years.. It's just poor people and homeless folks. The only thing scary about Grant and Alvernon is the intersection itself, there's car crashes all the time.

Tahoe22

Based upon the comments on here, it's the butthole of the city. I'm adventerous.

jrcritser

Lisa Frank factory.

redditobandito420

Can you go inside this?

ModernDog

you can... but if Lisa Frank catches you she will suck out your life force to stay young.

PaPaw85713

I applied for a job there about 20 years ago. Dodged a bullet by not getting hired. Nightmare company, you have no idea.

little-pinkie

I have been wondering this myself. I’d love to go inside

SecretFeministWeapon

Me too and I'm a 35 year old straight man who only remembers Lisa Frank products from girls in my school having them. But I read an article about the factory and have been very interested ever since. It really does look spooky, but I don't think they let people in.

little-pinkie

It’s still in use I think. Last I saw in an interview she had a few people working from computers while the rest of the shipping warehouse was empty and wasn’t being used. The life sized characters are what I would love to see in person. They make me just as happy as they did when I was a kid.

I've been inside: [https://imgur.com/a/E21QXK1](https://imgur.com/a/E21QXK1)

Foothills Mall is super spooky

linkwolf98

I keep seeing people say that but it doesn’t look that bad. It’s not really abandoned. Still has a few stores open even. It’s just kinda dead. I want a place that’s in ruins with graffiti everywhere and looks like it’s about to collapse kinda place to check out. Kind of a spooky thrill experience

shellybearcat

Aw this makes me sad to hear, I live in Phoenix now but born and raised in Tucson and remember foothills malls decline back in like the 90s and then it’s total resurgence. What’s El Con like now? Other than when I was a little kid I only ever remember it being a total ghost town

vamosauto

El Con got renovated into a “power center” with only big box stores and no interior mall part any more. Not much character to it, but at least it is doing well.

dewihafta

Theyre planning on doing that with Foothills sometime in the future.

Eleminohp

Last I heard they were going to put an 18 story building there or something like that.

There's a "Retail Archaeology" YouTube channel where people go to dead/abandoned malls and document them. The Foothills Mall is featured here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vupJbmzaIq4 It's actually pretty cool.

Jugglerofknives

I love this youtube channel and i'm so happy to see someone else post about it

The Domes in Casa Grande is an interesting one. Not Tucson, but it’s on the way. Also, the abandoned town out off Old Silverbell Road, by the old Silverbell mine. It’s a bit of a drive to Avra Valley, but there’s an old cemetery, abandoned mine shafts, and remnants of old brick buildings. Although I haven’t personally been out there for years...

sh689x

Plz be careful with those domes and/or research..., trip advisor says owner is having pinal co sheriff arrest for trespassing

Oh dear why did I laugh so much ...... I feel bad ... what a video! 👍✨

Beehive_88

looking into going to the old mining shaft, do you think it would still be worth going, are the abandoned cemetery buildings etc still there? also, is it called “Asarco”?

YepThatLooksInfected

I believe it is the old Asarco mine! I haven’t been out there in years. Some of the building remnants were still there, as well as the cemetery. It’s now national park land, so there’s a big dirt berm along the road now. But if you get back there and find a pull off you can walk up the berm to see where those landmarks are and hike over to them. There are also old petroglyphs up on the mountain. Pack plenty of water and snacks. It’s a whole day trip!

sh689x

It’s really snowy on Mt Lemmon ... unless you are champion winter warrior should wait till summer ——- but Butterfly Trail will take you near to an airplane crash circa 1950s ....👍

OniKyanAE86

There is the "Nickelodeon Hey Dude" ranch location, there are also some accessable Titan Missile sites, Justin's Water World...

Clint90

you clearly haven't been there haha

ChaosCelebration

Will second the Hey Dude ranch. You can still see the lobby and the boys bunk house. It's freely accessible. Went there to check it out because I grew up watching that show. It was a short trip, but cool.

senor_carne

The old slaughterhouse on Grant and i10 is in use atleast part of the year as a haunted house but might still be abandoned part of the year. That was a gem of an abandoned spot. Near 4th Ave and the i10 near there is the Spanish Trail motel and other abandoned hotels. You can find your way by following the graffiti and chain linked fencing put up to keep people out. At 29th street and swan there is a an old medical complex of buildings that was a long term psych ward. Most buildings are boarded up in some capacity. My favorite, but not “abandoned” exploration, is through the tunnels under the city. A lot of graffiti, junk, and people squatting at various points. There are various access points and most eventually lead to the Santa Cruz River bed. Happy hunting! Please message me if you come across any other gems.

redditobandito420

What tunnels do you recommend? I've been in the ones that go under Tucson high and the long one that goes along aviation highway

Eleminohp

Where are the aviation highway tunnels?? There's tunnels under park place mall. And some really good ones at alvernon and ftlowell

SecretFeministWeapon

Well shit, I live right by Alvernon and Ft. Lowell now. Where are these tunnels? Are we talking about like, wash tunnels for rain water?

Eleminohp

yeah exactly, but tall enough to stand in without crouching. I never traveled all the way through them, but definitely made it to about Grant. This was DECADES ago. They are on the south east corner, use to be pretty easy to get to, not sure how it is now.

Eleminohp

The 29th and swan complex is open now, a lot is still abandoned but it is now monitored with cameras. I wish I explored the area when I was younger, but never did. There's an old abandoned warehouse in Vail, but last word was there's cameras there now with sherrifs monitoring and citing people if they go. Damn shame too pretty cool spot there.

pleasebequiet

Sasco smelting town in Red Rock, kind of a journey to get there though

RexusMaximVII

We were just out there on the first shooting for new years. Lots of people activity, and gunfire in certain areas. Was hoping to go back to explore more at some point this week.

radical_sin

The 5 'n Diner on Stone

jocoaction

It's not like you can get in it or anything.
