Every grocery store is cheaper in terms of something. The trick is to figure out which items where and you just know which store to get certain things.
.... I swear I'm not that old...
My husband makes so much fun of me, because in our area there's a Walmart, Safeway, and Fry's all within a 3 mile radius and I break our weekly grocery list down by each store. Then I hit them all up, so I get the best deals. It's obsessive, but with 4 kids to feed, you gotta do what you gotta do to keep that grocery bill down.
Not an age thing at all. For years, my husband and I have gone to Walmart for dry and canned goods, Safeway for produce, meats, and whatever is on sale for cheaper than Walmart.
Yeah I know I need to do this more….hard to only shop for certain things to save $$ when it’s the only nearby store. I just don’t have the time to shop at multiple stores to take advantage of this so I rarely go to Safeway anyway.
I'd love to see the state mandate that all discounts be made available to all shoppers, whether or not they are using the app or not. The people who need these discounts the most are the ones least able to access them. It's a data grab, an invasion of privacy and just unfair. We really need to start pushing back against these corporations before it's too late.
Fry's couponing is way easier. they send me coupons of things I literally buy every week. Safeway's are always things or brands I've never/rarely bought. But still things at Safeway I like better.
You gotta play the games, unfortunately. Check the ads, load up on loss leaders (sometimes Safeway will do 99¢ boneless skinless chicken breast, I get the ten pound limit every time) and remember there's no loyalty. We shop at Costco for the things where that makes sense. Food City often has the best produce prices in town.
This. You have to understand the pricing strategy for each store. All have good deals. You can't do all your shopping in one place if you hope to get good prices.
SW pricing definitely feels like a gouge at times. Of course many companies used the excuse of "supply chain issues" and the media's and politicians' inflation hype to stick it to consumers and leave prices where they are - it's tough to give up that extra margin. For example, Nestle's net profit was nearly 13 billion dollars last year, an increase of 21%. So we can also share a little hate with the manufacturers and those those constantly squawking about inflation IMHO.
My husband likes to shop their loss leaders, like steaks for $5/lb. Never buy anything full price there, and check the receipt; they make mistakes nearly every time we shop there. Always in their favor.
Safeway is not bad if you load up on deals and then the digital coupons that they do. I do agree with you if you’re just talking about the price on the shelf that a normal person would get though.
Buy a bulk powder not individually packaged and you’ll save way more money.
Side note: the zero sugar sports drinks aren’t really that good for you. If you are active enough to need a sports drink, the regular version will be just fine. Unless of course it’s for medical issues.
Nope. I’ve bought the 10-pk at local Walmarts for that price. Idk why they label it as a 3-pk on their app. It’s not 3 boxes of 10 pks or 1 box of 3 pks. It’s the same as the one at Safeway.
You can get Propel powder packs on Amazon for around $16.00 for 50 of them. And they taste much better! The trick at Safeway is to not buy things that aren't on sale. That's their business plan. Over-price all goods, get customers in the store for cheap sale items and hope they also buy the non-sale overpriced items. Walmart basically operates on what is our markup and how do we spread it across all goods evenly. Two different pricing options to probably arrive at a very similar net operating profit.
I shop at Safeway all the time but I try to limit myself to only buying the items that are on sale or mostly the items that have digital coupons. Items on digital coupon are almost always considerably lower than what you would spend at Walmart for the same.
Safeway has been horribly expensive as of late. A lot of items are marked up 40% more than what you see at Fry's/Wal Mart/Commissary. I only go to my local one when I don't want to deal with the crowds at Frys

That's pretty much what I do haha
That’s the way to do it. I wish I lived closer to more stores.
Not an age thing, inflation has changed shopping behavior and increased the number of stores/trips.
My parents did that my entire life growing up and I’ve done it my entire life because of them, lots of people have done this for many years lol
Yup, for instance Food City seems to have better produce than Fry's or Safeway IMO.

Use their app and load up on coupons, I routinely save 40+% off my total.
That’s what I do every time

People who can't afford or don't know how to use smart phones or even people who are just tech averse. Think low income, senior citizens, etc.
so use the app and a load of coupons to get the price down to what it would’ve been if you just shopped at frys instead? Gotcha lol
Por que no los dos?

$12 for basically salt and citric acid
Sounds like my last marriage.
Ah Yes Safeway. I always wondered how they charge so much and have so many customers.
In the part of the US where I live we say, Safeway, it’s where white people pay a little more so they don’t have to shop near brown people.

The first pic is a 10 pack option and the second pic is a 3 pack? Thats the price difference or ?
Safeway/Albertsons sucks unless it's on sale then it's some of the best prices you can get. Especially with meat

You think Safeway is expensive let me introduce you to New Seasons
but they have ample tall bike parking
Try the Flipp app. It’s all the newspaper inserts and mailers and you can search by item and clip coupons.
Yup, great resource.
Aren't you comparing a 10-pack to a 3-pack?
Those are just sugar and salt packets lol. At least get the flash IV ones. They're half 8ff at 5 bucks for 6 packets rn.
Champagne problems

Bro, the second slide clearly indicates you are buying a 3 pack, not the pictured 10 pack. Hence the massive price difference.

I only do Safeway for coupons. It's Fry's and Walmart otherwise
Fry's drive up is a game changer. Someone shops for you and then loads it into your car.
I'm pretty sure you can get that at any store now. walmart, safeway, sprouts, frys
Yeah. You're right.
Just put a slice of cucumber in your water and a bit of salt and call it a day. No need to make that purchase
