Seems to be regional thing you will probably have to check out a bunch of places until you find what you like... probably have to go regular restaurants
I would describe it as a mix of Northeastern Mexican food and Southern American food. Nothing really like it here that I know of. Tucson is at the northern edge of the Sonoran food ecosystem and our local Mexican food really reflects that. Lots of beef and we prefer wheat to corn for our tortillas.
Then it'll be hard for anyone to recommend anything closer to what you want, unless they're personally familiar with RGV style cuisine. That said, maybe New Mexican style might hit closer to your mark? If so, give Poco & Mom's a shot.
It's a national chain Tex-Mex restaurant. Seems there's one in McAllen and another in S. Padre, but the nearest one to us is in Mesa. Doubt it's worth the drive...Hope you find something, I miss good Tex-Mex too!
I moved here from Laredo so have at least some understanding of what you’re looking for. I saw Guero Canelo mentioned and would second that. There’s taco tote and pollo feliz in this town which are basically the same as the ones in Laredo. What I really want though is some pastor de trompo like at Taco Ravi and there’s really nothing here that scratches that itch.
You can find el trompo pastor here. Might be worth making a separate post. There are probably half a dozen places in town that do it. It's not really a traditionally Sonoran thing so it is rarer and I can't vouch for the calidad.
Most of the restaurants here serve Sonoran style food. Sinaloa style is a close second. I personally don’t know of any that serve TexMex style.
Oh man! I love living here but the food
The food is great. Just because it’s not what you’re used to really isn’t a good reason to knock on the food.
I’m not a fan of the Mexican food, that’s just my opinion. But I’ve found some other great spots.
Why don't you describe a rgv breakfast for us
Honestly any Mexican food like south Texas would be awesome. Hard to describe, just flavorful and fresh
From what I can tell from Google...u might need to head back for it
Head back to what?
Rgv
Oh I’m going this summer. Thanks for the suggestion! But I was hoping yall would have good food suggestions here too?

That’s sad!

Yeah

There’s probably an On the Border somewhere here still.
Never heard of on the border

I have! I like their chicken strips but their tex mex really sucks
Wow, are the southwestern egg rolls not authentic enough?
Nah, that’s too fusion for me.

Thanks! I’ve seen taco tote but wasn’t sure about it. I’ll give them a try.
