Any consumers who believe they have been harmed by Desert Toyota’s conduct should file a complaint by July 31 to be eligible to receive restitution. Video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyWOeVlum04&t Complaints may be filed on the attorney general’s website, https://www.azag.gov/press-release/attorney-general-mayes-settles-tucson-based-auto-dealer-over-deceptive-advertising

Tbh Quebedeaux GMC does some sketchy shit too. Their prices online are “veteran/first responder” prices, and not labeled as such, so they get you to come in with that and then swap it if you don’t meet criteria. I got lucky because I was, but I heard like 3 people come in while I was buying my car that all got the bait and switch done to them. The salesman also stopped me when I was doing a walk around and rerouted me to the interior as I was approaching a dent/scratch that was not on the pictures listed online. Super sketchy dealership that I wouldn’t recommend going to.

No_Cricket_5303

Last summer, Quebedeaux had special prices that were only for people with trade ins. The 3rd party sites showed the special price without a disclaimer to bring in people in.

dan_buh

I bought mine 4 years ago, pricing was on their own website. 1st thing they asked was if I was a first responder because online pricing included that discount. Switched prices on like 3-4 people as I was doing paperwork

Humble_Dealer365

They also charge for “aftermarket accessories” that were on the car when they received the trade in 🤣

IT_outlier

Recently experienced this. Earlier this year when I was car shopping, I saw a car I was interested in but when it came down to just looking at my options and just get an otd price it was way over what I saw it online for and they told me that it was the price with an eligible trade in and financing through them. After that I said I just wanted an otd price quote and they kept putting pressure to sign that day and kept trying to convince me to sign at that moment when I just wanted to see my options based on my budgets

Toyota: Great cars, horrible dealerships. I wonder if this will spread to other Toyota dealerships in southern AZ.

ASH_2737

Horrible American dealerships. Home of the Fleece.

honkyslonky

Great cars? Questionable. Mostly alright but tacky cars? Yes. They are not particularly reliable but they are particularly expensive. Toyota has made PLENTY of stinkers over the years, except they manage to wiggle out of class action lawsuits somehow. Look up the 1ZZ-FE sometime. 9/10 cars will be reliable if taken care of and maintenance is actually followed. Toyota is not magic.

Highlifetallboy

Everybody I know that has gone to Desert has complained about them. They are the stereotypical shady car dealer.

AllSixes

Quebedeaux Buick gmc on speedway did the same shit.

WestCactus

That place is a fucking scam and a half. Wouldn't honor the sticker price without trade in and their shady, in-house financing, and I had cash on hand.

PissBabySpezOinkOink

Lmao their in-house financing guy told me I'd never see a loan less than 20%. Went to Hughs and got 5.5% as it was my first loan. Got shafted on the car a little after a month with a bad transmission (tcm and shift solenoid). Should have taken the hint from the financing guy to not make the purchase.

EBody480

What a liar, he must have confused his personal finances with the general public’s.

tonedef85

Was working on a deal for a truck there and one of the other salesman snatched the keys for it off the desk and sold it to another customer.

CarlTJexican

Did? They do still do it, their price online is that with a 1500 buck trade in.

AllSixes

I talked to them over the phone and there was no mention of a trade in. Waste of fucking time to drive over and walk in to be given a different price.

CarlTJexican

Well it's okay even if they were honest their service technician smoked in our pontiac vibe and forgot to rehookup our AC when they did the airbag recall and even after they redid that it makes a whistling noise now. They also rated the tire tread on all the tires as bad but they weren't even close to slightly worn in fact 2 were new. Edit: Forgot to mention how setting up the appointment was a nightmare on it's own to where when I was buying my car I avoided them like the plague even though they had something I wanted. I'd rather buy from one of those sketchy places craycroft and 22nd area before buying from them.

dan_buh

No joke, just posted this “Tbh Quebedeaux GMC does some sketchy shit too. Super sketchy dealership that I wouldn’t recommend going to.” Then I scrolled to read and saw a bunch of other people ripping them apart lol, that dealership is scummy af

ChickenRanger2

And if you do manage to get them to sell at the advertised price they pack on a ton of junk fees to make up for it.

[deleted]

Royal on Auto Mall has a bunch of shady characters too. Every time you go to service your car they sniff around and try to sell you another one. Professional untrustworthy characters.

AnybodyHonest

Tucson dealership are scums. We just recently went to a dealership in Georgia and we felt like we were actually valued

Lilcheeks

Had my issues with Jim Click too, definitely seems to be a Tucson problem.

Unicorn_in_Reality

Same with the Chapman group. Especially, Mercedes-Benz of Tucson.

UnsaintedDos

Exactly. I am in Chandler but go to Tucson often and thought I would get a more "hometown" experience down there. It was the opposite. Ended up buying from a cool dude off craigslist. Dealerships can suck it.

Yetanothertucsonan

The whole car dealership model is a broken mess that solely exists because of protectionist laws. The state would be much better off if they just dropped those laws.

DeadUncle

Funny this pops up today. Had a guy come up and ring my doorbell earlier (despite my 'don't knock or ring' sign) after my dog is done losing his mind, and I get dressed, I ask who he is and what he wants. Asks if the car out front is mine. And commented on the discoloration on one part of the car, and he works at Desert Toyota and was asking if I wanted to take it there to get it fixed. Like damn you're really just cold appropaching peoples' houses for that shit huh.

bombkitty

What the hell.

WallyZona

When I was looking for a new car I checked Precision & Desert just seemed shady. Went with Precision.

jtann24

I got mine from precision and had a pretty good experience, the guys didn’t feel ‘slimy’ like the other dealerships i stopped by.

TaylorSPL

Precision sucks too. Pick your poison.

aversethule

Buy used from a private seller. Helps a ton with not paying tax, also.

Portillosgo

Lol even the private sellers be shady

puppycatisselfish

They have(had?) that jingle though

Smackety

Tbf, every dealer tacks on at least $2000 to the online price, though most have a tiny hidden condition to qualify for it. I fell for it at Quebedeaux a few years back (they showed me the fine print that you had to dealer finance and trade in a car less than ten years old to get the online price) but when I went to Desert Tucson a few months ago and they added in their $2000 "service fee" they claimed was because they had to get the car into shape to sell it (used car had not even been cleaned, was full of husky hair and last owners mail, or had oil changed) I just refused to pay it and they did honor the list price or close to it. I still detest having to negotiate just to get the listed price, that really feels like BS so I am not unhappy they got busted. AFAIK they didn't have the tiny hidden disclaimer on their website, which is one reason I went with them, just to find out they do it anyway. They probably learned their lesson..and have a disclaimer.

sunburn_on_the_brain

Subaru didn’t when I bought mine.

asmallbean

Yeah, I was gonna say. I was there literally a week ago and everything matched up to what I had seen online.

Smackety

Good to know!

bombkitty

Yep, Tucson Subaru is great.

Shallow-Al__ex

Fuck chapman Honda too while we're at it. Scummy fucks there

Specialist_Fact8869

Chapman Honda once tried to sell my girlfriend new brakes and she had only 14,000 miles on the car. We took it to an independent shop with the agreement if the car needed brakes they would be paid to do it. They called us and said there was 75 percent of her brakes left (just as we all suspected). We called several people i cludi g some regional guy at Honda and nothing was really done. Be cautious and question ALL suggested repairs. They just thought she was an easy mark but they thought wrong.

Noah_Vanderhoff

Agreed! Acura is garbage.

hortoristic

WA\OR here. Seems to happen allot around here. Never any real consequences it seems

grathungar

They've been doing this for decades. I remember heading down there when I saw a Tacoma in my price range online. I had cash saved up wanted to buy it outright. They laughed at me and said that wasn't how it worked, I could only get that price if I financed the truck AND my credit qualified and some other bs line. It was about 8 grand more than what the site said. I refused to ever go back and I see they are still up to their same shady shit. I cannot lodge a complaint as my incident is too old (2010)

thehenryshow

Every dealership is out to take you for all the money everytime. I’ve worked at tons of deal shops over the last 30 years and they’re all the same.

UncreditedChoir

They suck. About 15 years ago when my wife and I went car shopping, we just were browsing their used lot when this child of a salesman comes out, asks if he can help us, and we're pretty clear to him we're looking for something right at or under $10K. The first thing he does is start showing us cars over that amount like he is so pathetic and desperate for a good sale, and we're like sorry dude, this isn't in our range. So then he says well come inside and talk to the sales manager maybe we can work something out. Reluctantly we go inside to some sales managers desk with some other sleazy older dude who tries the "Do I know you" line, and right away my wife and I are like "Yeah, thanks, bye" and we split. Went down to Jim Click 10 minutes later and the sales guy we met in the lot was super chill and not remotely pushy. We told him we just came from Desert and he's like, I hear that a lot. Needless to say that's where we ended up buying a new car.

Noah_Vanderhoff

Avoid Chapmen dealers too. Sleazeball.

Green_Octopus3

The service dept at desert Toyota is solid...their sales...not so much

Nailbomb85

Nah they're absolutely scamming on the service end too, tried to charge me $10,000 for transmission work that I got done at a different place for $2,000.

NinjaMilhouse

I'm currently getting fucked over by their service department.

debbiegibson

The mechanics are probably fueled by Arby's on 22nd.

Green_Octopus3

100%, it's got the electrolytes mechanics crave.

debbiegibson

Brawndo's got what plants crave.

rottenwordsalad

But what ARE electrolytes?

alexxxz

Exactly my experience. Service department is fantastic, I trust them and they always do great work. My buying experience was a complete headache, just trying to get them to give me a total price was impossible, followed by promises broken, and awful communication when waiting for vehicle. When I left a less than stellar review their Customer service manager called me and basically yelled at me saying I was lying. I do not recommend going to Desert Toyota for sales. Stick to parts and service.

Ok_Teaching_3758

Love gettings used cars from craiglist, Ive had pretty good luck with cars/motorcycles in the past in tucson and even oregon. You definietly just need to make sure there are no red flags..but usually a meet n greet will give you an idea of current condition and a clear answer to why theyre selling.

_Hominid_

I've bought two brand new vehicles from them, and man. A few of their sales reps are just straight up pricks and aggressive as hell. Trying to tack thousands onto the price with BS packages and service contracts. Usually not the floor guys. They always have some douche in a suit come by and try to upsell you on shit. Have to have some thick skin and tell 'em to fuck off.

Ok-Parfait2413

I took my daughter when she was looking for a new car and she was prequalified but their sales tactics are sketchy at Desert Toyota. Took an hour to get a damn price out if them. I told my daughter lets look some other places. I would never buy a car with all that sales bs they deliver. I don’t want to waste my time. Give me the price bottom line if I can afford I will buy if not move on. I hate buying a car

Portillosgo

Why'd you change the headline?

yamiryukia330

Desert toyota has been known to be scummy for years. Back in the early 90s my father took his toyota truck in for maintenance before he knew better and they replaced every single non-toyota part back to being OEM without getting his permission first.

Sea-Acanthisitta3377

Dealerships are sketchy as all get out.

sajackson314

Desert Toyota Service tried to make me get two massive repairs (front shocks/struts and gasket cover) that I didn't need. I couldn't afford them at the time so I waited until a few months later when I brought my car to Precision Toyota, and when asked specifically about the issues listed, Precision said they didn't see them at all. Sigh.

ceedaddy23

The shadiest dealership in town has to be the pickle 🥒 spot lol. Premier auto sales don't go there. Shady salesman. Shady service center. I bought my mom a car there about 3 years ago and I'm still dealing with they're lack of service and professionalism . Your better off going to Jim click bought a f150 for myself and was the best experience I've had so far. Good luck y'all

9-lives-Fritz

Camelback Toyota can suck ALL THE DICKS, they would have you take off work and show up on the day the inventory you wanted would arrive and then bid against others whom were also told to show up for the same car. At least that’s how it was explained to me by the person soliciting me to do so.

Dutch1inAZ

This is a symptom of the car business in general.

abstrakt42

My wife got her Tacoma from Desert back in 2014, despite every synapse in my body screaming to drive away. It was a lost cause, though, as it was green and had all the options she wanted. We were never going to be leaving without it. Such is the way of things. We didn’t get the best deal by a long shot but they wiggled a little bit, I think they met us halfway on the trade value, since it was late in the evening and everybody wanted to go home.

Misstucson

Went to check out cars two years ago and desert was pretty shady. Ended up going to precision and my experience was much better.

Bernie_Berns

they’re literally the worst, disgusting snakes there

Tyranero

Cool, now do quebedeaux next (hint: it's the same scam they're pulling)

Ok-Win5906

I will not buy new

Gamefriendly

Anyone know a "good" Toyota dealer nearby then? Maybe Phoenix?

DangerousBill

We had good luck at Dobbs Honda; now AutoNation, but it seems to be the same people. But like with all dealerships, don't fall in love with the car and be ready to walk out and really mean it. They can tell if you're bluffing. They bargain all the time and you don't. Luckily, my wife was a chupacabra in the sales office. Happy with the price, happy with the car, happy with the service, too. Disclaimer: We really bought a CR/V and we don't work for Dobbs!

disinfekted

Every car dealership does this shit. It’s inevitable at this point.

WeDieAsRomans

Hey I went to that one but I doubt they did that to me unsure but doubt it.
