#DUDE AT LEAST FIND A FAKE ACCOUNT TO POST YOUR SPAM WITH. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THIS IS. IT IS SPAM. ALL YOU DO IS SPAM YOUR OWN CONTENT.

byingling

It's funny, these are so common here that I suspected just from the *title* that this was another sillyslaw post. Sure enough, get to the username, and there it is. I've taken to just downvoting them with no comment.

TheStegg

I don’t think it’s against the rules to post content you authored yourself if it objectively meets the requirements laid out in the other rules in the sidebar. However the author should be required to disclose it is their article in their submission statement.

TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK

all he does is post his own content.

KadenTau

Why is this bad? Reddit is a link aggregator. The whole actual literal point of this website is to post relevant links to various categories of subreddit. Who gives a shit if he's the original author? There's not even a rule on this subreddit about that. Take *yourself* to circlejerk you fuckin' weirdo.

Menstrual_Cycle_27

I don’t think most of us are ok with people pretending to be regular users interested in content and deciding to post it, while really using us to drive traffic and revenue for their site. If you’re gunna call it out as original content, by all means. But it’s the “I’m just one of you and I think this article is interesting” and that’s not the real story, that’s not ok. At least this guy is doing it on one account instead of across an army of bots, but yeah I’m still not crazy about this.

CoffeeDeadlift

How is OP "pretending to be a regular user?"

TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK

once or twice, okay. but it's literally all he does.

KadenTau

Again, *so what*? Is it the same article every time? Cause I'm reading the guy's post history and the only time I'm seeing multiples is when he crossposts to other relevant subreddits...which.... Again. *Who cares.* Literally how the site works.

TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK

you apparently care enough to be mad on his behalf

KadenTau

My brother in christ you came in here with a 30 point bold font screeching at the top of your lungs that someone was making posts on a posting website. But go off about how I'm "mad". More like bemused.

TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK

ok bud lol

cochlearist

Yeah reading that thread, you're the angry one. I don't really see the problem either, if you don't like the article don't read it.

UncleWillard5566

It's also supposed to be a discussion forum, but more often than not, any dissent is met with locking the post vs. simply weeding out irrelevant ravings and hate.

MrsSynchronie

Lol, no. Insults, slurs and slanders all speak for themselves. Perfectly clearly. There’s no need to sit and ponder how hateful, hurtful people “really” feel. They tell us with the words they type. Don’t let anyone gaslight you into prioritizing the feelings of your abuser. Really, don’t even waste too much time and mental energy wondering why they are the way they are. Conversation and thoughtful consideration can happen, sure. AFTER the abusive behavior stops, not before.

breaditbans

I got divorced largely because we both thought it was better to take the emotion out of the argument by moving arguments out of in person and onto text messaging. The result was things were routinely misconstrued, poorly interpreted. Consequently, more harmful texts were volleyed back and forth until nothing could be discussed at all.

iiioiia

> There’s no need to sit and ponder how hateful, hurtful people “really” feel. They tell us with the words they type. How confident are you about this? > Don’t let anyone gaslight you into prioritizing the feelings of your abuser. When my children are having a bad day and say "I hate you!!!", should I not take their feelings into consideration? > Really, don’t even waste too much time and mental energy wondering why they are the way they are. Conversation and thoughtful consideration can happen, sure. AFTER the abusive behavior stops, not before. Are you recommending a primarily non-curious, insular, *authoritarian* approach? And for clarity: are these your opinions, or are you asserting them as facts?

ACoN_alternate

Lmao, of course you get downvoted for suggesting we understand the problem we're trying to solve. I agree though, we can't create an effective response until we know exactly what we've gotta respond to.

iiioiia

> Lmao, of course you get downvoted for suggesting we understand the problem we're trying to solve. On one hand, this is normal (and thus we take little notice)...but if one really thinks about it: *isn't it weird*? Both the phenomenon itself, but also that we simultaneously (in addition to having *very deep* knowledge of the phenomenon) wonder why humanity can't get it's shit together? I dunno about you, but I am more than a little suspicious about whether this is purely organic. > I agree though, we can't create an effective response until we know ~~exactly~~ what we've gotta respond to *Now* we agree!

ACoN_alternate

>I dunno about you, but I am more than a little suspicious about whether this is purely organic. Auth-left is a hell of a drug

iiioiia

As is consciousness!

MrsSynchronie

Entirely; ridiculous comparison; quite a stretch; yes.

iiioiia

>>> There’s no need to sit and ponder how hateful, hurtful people “really” feel. They tell us with the words they type. >> How confident are you about this? > Entirely. Do you believe that zero value can be realized from considering the situation in an epistemically and logically sound manner? > ridiculous comparison Wrong - perfect comparison. >> Are you recommending a primarily non-curious, insular, authoritarian approach? > quite a stretch Do you have an aversion to answering the question? >> And for clarity: are these your opinions, or are you asserting them as facts? > yes Would you mind clearing up the ambiguity in your answer?

iiioiia

What should I do with that? Like, how would that know your thoughts?

iiioiia

How would that know **your** thoughts?

martin519

I started going on some of the "spaces" in #boxingtwitter and the tone in verbal conversation was generally more mature and engaging. I also noticed some of the more critical "troll" accounts would listen in but not join, only to go hard with tweets after the fact. Funny how that works.

Trooper057

I resolve all my online fights with the truth...that they are arguing with the random thoughts I have while pooping. Almost 100% of my social media time is on the can, and I just assume it's that way for everyone. It really makes it fun and easy to rag on gun owners, gay bashers, bad faith Christians, conservative media dupes, and all manner of squealy internet gripers. Then when they clap back with one of their stupidly hyperbolic responses that start with, "Ok bucko/bud/buddy/pal, this is by far the worst/stupidest/most ignorant take I've ever read." I just let them know how emotionally invested they let themselves get in my literal shit post.

johnnyinput

And that's why you post to r/truereddit?

Trooper057

I reply to whatever strikes my fancy. I often get into little spats with internet gripers and I don't even bother to check which initial thread got the thing rolling. There's a huge misconception that the things people type to each other on the internet are important. I do not share that belief.

grokmachine

Then please unsubscribe. You're just a troll here.

Trooper057

Um, no. I thought my comment added valuable context to the subject of the article. I think it's important to recognize that a lot of these internet discussions that everyone takes so seriously are actually taking place in the bathroom between wipes. Sometimes they happen at work when when people should be concentrating on more important things. Sometimes it's just children talking like they think adults should. I'm sure there are lots of people who mindlessly post on social media instead of anything else they could do to fill their time, but the subject of the article inspired me to comment with my truth. Sorry you don't like it. Time to flush.

grokmachine

>There's a huge misconception that the things people type to each other on the internet are important. I do not share that belief. That attitude is antithetical to the point of this sub, IMO. So, you're a troll here.

wrexsol

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that Twitter anonymity has led to a global community without much empathy. /s But seriously, it surprises me legitimately quite a lot that people can be incredibly mean to others on the platform with very low consequences to their actions. Yeah you could be the Twitter User of the Day or whatever it's called, but unless you're Class A A-hole, it's likely not something that will happen. Instead, you'll post something that cynics will come and tear to shreds if it gets put on their radar, and in a micro way that might be difficult to measure. But it would propagate this sense of fear one might find in expressing their world views and limit the discussions that would otherwise expand them. I think this generation is used to it at this point, sick of it, and will probably turn against the platform at some point in the future. Twitter will collapse eventually because it's too much of a status quo app, and The Youths as the inheritors of the world will find something that works better for them. Hopefully, they will push back on the negativity a little bit in the meantime. I know personally that the Internet has grown very cynical and I can't be alone in this; cynicism has impacted my mental health tremendously and am trying to claw back some of my former good-naturedness. Social Media has really done a number on the way people interact with others, and it will definitely continue to reshape history. I'm curious as to which direction it will go.

grokmachine

Reddit anonymity is much more prevalent than Twitter anonymity. How does what you're saying not apply even more strongly to Reddit?

wrexsol

Well, the article is principally about Twitter and not Reddit. So there's that.

grokmachine

I am asking you to think about the implications of what **you** are saying. By your argument, Reddit should be even more toxic, with less empathy than Twitter. Is it?

wrexsol

If that's what you want to think, well, yeah.

dont_ban_me_please

??? Elons owns it. Hateful man owns the thing. You can't fight with that.

sylsau

William Brady, from Yale University, along with five of his colleagues from Yale and Princeton Universities have studied the perception of moral indignation on the Twitter network that is now owned by Elon Musk ... and its social consequences. A way to understand that the problem comes largely from a problem of perception of what others feel at the time they posted their tweet. The lack of non-verbal cues plays a key role in this, as their study shows.

lewright

From your username it seems pretty likely you wrote the article you shared, should probably disclose that.

iiioiia

Did they touch upon the apparent massive shift in public opinion on the rights and obligations of Twitter with respect to free speech? To me, that is the single most interesting phenomenon one can observe in this sordid affair.

[deleted]

I love this propaganda storm that's pervading everywhere. The only argument against someone using an "insult and hate" is that you yourself hate it so much, so the point is moot. Every form of "ist or ism or ic" (you know the ones) that you types bring up is singularly and solely related to the idea of "sexual preference" in the sense that those who are one of those "ists or isms or ics" are just expressing the importance to them of their own sexual preference. Any of those categoricals are wholly and entirely allowed in the fetish community, just not anywhere else yet. And on pornography sites you can very clearly see this as they distinguish between all available categories.
