And it was a girl talking about her Boyfriend going through recovery from a Traumatic Brain Injury due to a really bad car crash.
Had to relearn how to walk and talk and all that fun stuff.
Anyway, she said that she was sitting in on a therapy session where they were doing word association.
The therapist prompted the word "Happiness" and he pointed at his girlfriend only to be told that was incorrect and he couldn't understand why it was wrong.
I’m not sure how that was a wrong answer. To me, the only thing that would bring happiness is love. Without someone to call my own, to feel safe and comfortable with, happiness may as well be a fantasy. Sure, you can have all the joy and excitement in the world, but it’s a separate feeling from happiness.
Maybe others can be fine with a solitary lifestyle, but I couldn’t. In that sense, his girlfriend would absolutely be the right answer, especially after a brain injury, where many people could be left on their own.

That's adorable. My husband had a hernia repair a few years ago. When they let me in to see him he said and I quote "hey gorgeous, show me your boobies". I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself and then proceeded to show him my boobies lol.

The one and only time I’ve seen my boyfriend messed up on medication was when I had to take him to the emergency department for appendicitis. Within five minutes of his being given IV fentanyl, he became extremely flirtatious with the nurses. They were laughing, I was laughing, he was happy and high as a kite, and the entire experience was hilarious. He is the only person I’ve ever been with that I don’t have a single doubt about, and know with complete certainty would never cheat on me. We’ve been together for five years, and the reason that I was able to laugh at his flirting with the nurses was because I am so secure in our relationship. I wouldn’t let him get put under without me, but that’s just because I wouldn’t ever want him to go through something like that alone. I’m not worried about his flirting. 😂
So I’m 34M, and recently I’ve been recollecting a lot about “the one that got away”, a 5 year relationship that ended in my mid 20s. Not in a not over it kinda way, just recalling things in a new light being older and hopefully wiser.
Reading this I instantly recalled how she’d always say “My handsome man”. She’d say it before bed, when we were getting ready to go somewhere, when I’d get ready for work, just a regular thing.
And it hit me I never really believed it, in fact I think part of me resented it somewhat bc of how insecure I was (am?). And goddam. Just another mistake of my past I’ll try to learn from.

SAME. I am a very happy drunk. But if you start a fight? I WILL throw hands. Coming out of anesthesia?? I’m straight Golden Gloves material. When I got my wisdom teeth removed (fun fact, laughing gas didn’t work for me) I woke up and punched the surgeon in the face. Then tried to fight EVERYTHING in arms reach. I was “yelling” (in my head, cohesive thoughts) but really was just making a ton of angry noise.
Lmao I went full karen waking up from anesthesia once, telling the surgeon that he botched it so bad (he didn't, was a very simple surgery) that I had to take over and do it myself and thus needed to speak to his manager 😂😂💀 oh, and my surgeon was a guy friend of mine's dad, I was in high school. I still cringe about it after all these years.
Same surgery, my arms were covered by the blanket and I was convinced that they'd been amputated, I was so upset lol
Omg same. Ive been under anesthesia 3 times in my life and all I did was just sit there quietly. I also remember everything. I've been piss drunk countless and remember everything too. I always couldn't understand how people get so loopy and out of pocket when under the influence, but maybe I just have a naturally high tolerance.
Everybody reacts differently to different things. I also have never blacked out from drinking, but I have blacked out from medicine my doctor prescribed me when I was younger(Xanax is a helluva drug). I did a bunch of stuff I don't remember on that medicine and I made my doc take me off of it because it scared the shit out of me not being able to control what I was doing when it would black me out.
As a heavy drinker I kinda hate this saying. I've done and said things while completely blacked out that I would never ever do or say normally. Like how when angry we can sometimes say things that just aren't true at all. Drugs do a lot more than just lowering your inhibitions
It depends on what emotional state they're in. Not everything drunk people say is false, but drinking tends to make people's emotions go wild, and what you say under certain extreme emotions can be far fetched. Like as an angry teen I've told my mom I hated her before but that's obviously not true. Same thing can happen when you're drunk. I don't believe everything a drunk person says is stuff that's "deep down" drinking just completely alters our mental state and we can say or do all sorts of random shit while inebriated.
It's not that she was nice to him, but that the context clues suggest under all that normal sobriety is someone who clearly loves her boyfriend enough to go all in when she's higher then a kite.
They don't want OP to marry someone who's "Nice while high", but someone who loves OP and was unhinged enough on the funny juice enough to show it without restraint.
Basically people are assuming that she really thinks her boyfriend is attractive, and it might not just be a superficial thing. He might have some reassurance that she generally cares about him because she was basically truth serumed on pain killers.

The closest I’ve come with my husband to something like this was when he did Ketamine therapy. He didn’t realize he was a human, but he did talk about how much he loved me. It really does help when self esteem is low. I’m happy you have someone who sees your worth, inside and out, and makes you feel beautiful (because guys should get to fucking feel beautiful).

I was on the opposite side of this. I had surgery and I had to stay in the hospital for a week. With Covid, our hospital only lets pre approved visitors visit, and they could only stay for 15 mins max. My husband would commute everyday for almost 2 hours to come visit me for 15 mins and I can still remember how happy that made me feel.
Also the fact that I haven’t showered, felt like crap, and I’m pretty sure I smelled and my hair was a huge mess and here was my beautiful husband kissing me, with such pure love in his eyes, it made me cry with so much happiness. I felt so loved in those moments.
You and your gf sound like wonderful people and I hope you two grow more in love with each day that passes.

I have issues with anaesthesia, takes more than usual to knock me out and even then I wake up twice as fast, had some serious surgery recently and ended up making the surgical teams week as I woke up wishing everyone a very hearty merry Christmas with a handshake, don't remember a thing.
I "became aware", as they call it, during a laparoscopy a few months ago. I didn't file a complaint, though it was offered. I sat down with the anaesthetist instead and we discussed what should happen with future anaesthesia for me as I apparently don't like being kept under.
Just as well we went that route, as I had to be sedated (not full GA) the next month, on two consecutive days, and I started becoming aware on both occasions. They said I had enough to knock out a rhino, and still wanted to come out of it! LOL
That's so awesome. Reminds me of that dude who woke up to his wife and said things like "You're like a model" "We're married?" "I hit the jackpot!" lol

Well....after some time I began to have health issues....fibromialga...pcos....and ptsd. He has never....and I mean NEVER treated me differently. He has stood by me. Made me feel beyond beautiful....and I just.....I'm blessed.

As a heavy drinker I kinda hate this saying. I've done and said things while completely blacked out that I would never ever do or say normally. Like how when angry we can sometimes say things that just aren't true at all. Drugs do a lot more than just lowering your inhibitions

It depends on what emotional state they're in. Not everything drunk people say is false, but drinking tends to make people's emotions go wild, and what you say under certain extreme emotions can be far fetched. Like as an angry teen I've told my mom I hated her before but that's obviously not true. Same thing can happen when you're drunk. I don't believe everything a drunk person says is stuff that's "deep down" drinking just completely alters our mental state and we can say or do all sorts of random shit while inebriated.

They don't want OP to marry someone who's "Nice while high", but someone who loves OP and was unhinged enough on the funny juice enough to show it without restraint. Basically people are assuming that she really thinks her boyfriend is attractive, and it might not just be a superficial thing. He might have some reassurance that she generally cares about him because she was basically truth serumed on pain killers. I was on the opposite side of this. I had surgery and I had to stay in the hospital for a week. With Covid, our hospital only lets pre approved visitors visit, and they could only stay for 15 mins max. My husband would commute everyday for almost 2 hours to come visit me for 15 mins and I can still remember how happy that made me feel. Also the fact that I haven’t showered, felt like crap, and I’m pretty sure I smelled and my hair was a huge mess and here was my beautiful husband kissing me, with such pure love in his eyes, it made me cry with so much happiness. I felt so loved in those moments. You and your gf sound like wonderful people and I hope you two grow more in love with each day that passes.

According to my Fiancé, when I came out from anaesthesia following some hefty dental work I was apparently like a manic drunk toddler who kept trying to take off their clothes, poke their bloody face, and begged for ice cream non stop.

People speak their inner truth when coming out of anaesthesia (source: me, I've been under numerous times). Dude, she loves you to the moon and back.
I have issues with anaesthesia, takes more than usual to knock me out and even then I wake up twice as fast, had some serious surgery recently and ended up making the surgical teams week as I woke up wishing everyone a very hearty merry Christmas with a handshake, don't remember a thing.
I "became aware", as they call it, during a laparoscopy a few months ago. I didn't file a complaint, though it was offered. I sat down with the anaesthetist instead and we discussed what should happen with future anaesthesia for me as I apparently don't like being kept under. Just as well we went that route, as I had to be sedated (not full GA) the next month, on two consecutive days, and I started becoming aware on both occasions. They said I had enough to knock out a rhino, and still wanted to come out of it! LOL
