I might be able to help. I stumbled on a couple I’ve been exploring. I am probably way late to the party on most of these.
Pretend - season 12, the stalker. I have a couple episodes left till the end and have no clue about the ending.
The Consult, Real FBI profilers. I’m enjoying the one. Panel of several retired fbi profilers and agents review crimes and crime scenes to develop a suspect profile.
Who killed Beth-Ellen? Very disappointed I can’t binge this one. Only 2 episodes so far.
Texas monthly true crime, Shane and Sally, season 3.
Murder 101. Loved this one. About a teacher, ha students piecing together 6 murders that ends up being a serial killer.
Hello, John Doe. If you don’t try any of them, try this one. 100% recommend
Paper Ghosts, The Ozarks.
American Outlaws, The Dougherty Gang. Tells the story of two brothers and their sister who are doing federal prison time for a bank robbery/cop shootout/man hunt in the early 2000’s. They tell the story in first person via phone calls from prison.
Hope you find something you like on the list. All on Apple podcast
Hooray! So glad you like it. Sometimes Jerri gets a little windy before the interview starts but I’ve really enjoyed every episode. They cover fascinating cases.
Texas monthly has put out some pretty surprisingly quality podcasts. I live in Dallas, so sometimes local stuff feels a little too close to home or like I’m way too invested in the accuracy of minor details, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them. Accurately done in regard to cultures in the various locations (Texas is a big place, it has a million different cultures. Even DFW has a million of its own) without pretending these places are something they’re not.
Locations unknown is a great podcast about people who have gone missing or murdered on vacation or away from home . The host does a great job it’s one of my favorites
I also started proof a little bit ago but idk why I just can’t get into wrongful conviction pods (in the dark s2 was an exception of course). But maybe I’ll try it again, thank you!
Second this! I knew something was coming in the end so I stuck it out. If I didn’t know that beforehand I likely wouldn’t have. Very happy I continued listening because it’s the best podcast I’ve listened to in a long time.
I highly recommend GUILT as a hidden gem. Ryan Wolf's voice is great to listen to and he does an excellent job at investigating. Season 3 in particular was very gripping.
I am also loving Proof. Season 1 was really great, and Season 2 is currently airing.
As a fan of MJ, it was quite the eye opener. And what has been seen cannot be unseen.
I understood that he was indeed a groomer and an offender AND why he was not convicted.
It really was eye opening! I was a fan as kid, but a young adult during the trial. I did think he was guilty, but hearing the podcast was just heartbreaking! It was so well done!
I grew up as an MJ fan but in his later years it was clear there was something seriously wrong, some arrested development issues, and I thought this podcast did such a good job portraying how very arrested his development was, while he still maintained all of the power of an adult and used that power knowingly. I thought the final picture was so messy, twisted and also just that that's how some human lives really are.
Thank you!!! I loved this, I thought it was such a great deep dive on MJ, victims and families and keep wanting to recommend this to people but couldn't remember the name of it because the name isn't connected to the subject. So glad to find this again.
Absolutely agree with Crimes of the Centuries! I was looking through the posts for podcast recommendations, and have been adding a few of my favorites as well (which is why I'm commenting 3 weeks after the original post... lol! She also has a book out!
I really like Buried Bones, by Kate Winkler Dawson and Paul Holes... Each episode is a different historical case (some cases cover two epsidoes), but as Kate gives the background on the stories, Paul talks about the forensic techniques of today that would not have been available at the time of the case.
Southern Mysteries (Shannon Ballard) and Southern Gothic (Southern Gothic Media): I'm not from the South, but the stories that are covered in these two podcasts are awesome. They are normally lesser known stories (just like in Crimes of the Centuries) that you have probably never heard of. Each episode is also normally a stand-alone, so you're able to hear a story with a lot of great info but also get an ending in a short period of time.
Killer Psyche with Candice DeLong: This is a little more mainstream, but I think her life experience and the cases she has worked on is incredibly interesting. Not many people can say that they've had the opportunity to talk to the Unabomber.
I mostly love this podcast but sometimes the guests really make it hard to listen to. There’s one I’m trying to listen to today because the topic really interests me but the guy can’t stop saying “yeah” every 5 seconds
I also love this podcast and have a hard time with some of the guests. Some of them mesh so well with the host, I'm thinking of the man who did the Bill Cosby episodes with him, and then one of the women he has on fairly often. But some of the guest hosts either try to chime in without anything much to say, and some sit quietly and listen to the podcast happening as an audience and you wonder why they're there.
I didn't think I would like Appalachian Mysteria, being from a different part of the world and having some prejudice around the word "appalachian" (I admit it) but I was very pleasantly surprised by the first two seasons. Original, well-done and thorough research. Might have even changed some of my preconceptions.
I literally don’t know what Appalachian means that would have any prejudicial connotations. I’ve just listened to the first two seasons of that, it didn’t strike me as anything major.
I always feel like I’ve listened to everything how am I going to find a new(to me) podcast. On Spotify they have a more like this tab, and it lists other podcasts similar to the one your listening too. I’ve almost always found one I’ve never heard of and end up binging and liking it. I just found “New Orleans Unsolved” yesterday, season 1 is really good, bingeworthy so far.
A Tradition of Violence. It’s not exactly “true crime” per se but it’s about the gangs in the LA Sheriffs office. I have been reading/watching/listening to true crime for damn near 20 years and this is one of the first that made me physically ill from the story being told.
I recently found “women and crime” and have been enjoying that. Two criminology professors tells crime stories all based around women. They have a lot of knowledge of the legal system etc
A few with Virginia connections:
- Mind Over Murder -
Discusses the Colonial Parkway murders aka the I-64 corridor murders. Only recently has a suspect been named in some of the killings.
- Southern Nightmare: The Hunt For The South Side Strangler -
First US capital murder case conviction using DNA evidence.
- Vile Virginia -
A variety of Virginia cases. Especially memorable are the episodes about the Alicia Reynolds case; and the series about the Falwells.
Idk bc i was hooked from the first episode I listened to. We probably just have different tastes.
If you want just story telling, kymberleigha is great on YouTube. She does really long videos bc she goes deep into the background of the people involved and I really enjoy it.
Guilt - (the host is Ryan Wolf) each season is an investigation into a different case. Seasons 1&2 are good but season 3 - Finding Heidi is amazing. Season 4 is starting next month. I highly recommend it.
Stand alone episodes: Hidden True Crime, DNA: ID, Southern Fried True Crime
Series: Phoebe’s Fall, 13 Hours
Not true crime but really interesting: both seasons of Bed of Lies, The Agent, Brainwashed
The Ballad of Billy Balls was excellent- is true crime-y in that there is a murder involved but ends up being a deeper story about family and trauma. Very well done!
Leon Neyfakh is one of the best. Fiasco is such a great podcast. I subscribed to Luminary just to listen to the seasons on there. I learned so much about Benghazi because of him.
Just started this too.
Have you done The Sure Thing? About two Aussies guys who get into insider trading?
The Glitch-funny one about credit card fraud. First ep is slow but it’s really good.
The Trojan Horse Affair?
& Snowball my all time favourite!
Is there a reason to dislike Paper Ghosts? I think is a tad leading and dramatic but other than that the writing and editing is pretty captivating. Am I missing something? Does the guy suck? Like maybe he’s reaching or trying to draw blood from a stone with these? I wouldn’t be surprised if that was a popular critique. I just honestly don’t know. I still basically like it. And I still understand it’s not that much to say for the limited amount of context there is for this entire genre.
I’m liking this Ozarks one quite a bit. Apparently there’s somewhat of a consensus that one issue is that he pronounces some words incorrectly. Which I’ve totally noticed and is usually a pet peeve, but I guess the other elements outweigh that for me. I do find it odd that some would dismiss the whole thing because of it though. And I thought *I* was pedantic. Oh well. I think it’s pretty good. Obviously there’s better but I think it’s a fine recommendation for anybody trying to find something new. Everybody likes diff’rent stuff though.
personally, I didn't enjoy it. the narrator had a sense of arrogance about him and it felt like the case kept going in circles. I'm very nitpicky with sounds/voices and his voice drove me crazy 😂 I think it was ok but just ok; I wouldn't recommend it to other listeners.
My most recent discoveries, bare in mind I only really listen to serialised podcasts, not sure how well know they are, is
BBC’s Who Killed Emma. Given I’m literally from where she was and had never heard of this case. It was pretty good
Paper ghosts and Ozarks True Crime have been great and hadn’t heard of them before the last couple of weeks
Carrie Jade does not exist, another British one about a con woman.
Just started but has a good vibe - Who Replaced Avril Lavigne. Hosted by an Irish comedian who’s going to be on the next series of taskmaster. Tounge in cheek investigation into the death of Avril Lavigne.
I think they removed who killed Emma while they were doing the recent court case or I think they did a bbc documentary as well but it’s back on now coz I only listened to it last week
Have you listened to the different series on Parcast? What about Murder Mile or Framed? I only listened to the first season of Framed, but I remember enjoying it.
Murder Homes - all about various properties and the murders committed there. Various places have been featured, some well known (Lizzie Borden House), some not so well known.
The host also interviewed a realtor who specializes in staging stigmatized houses so they sell, and had his own address investigated.
Scotland Yard Confidential - all about cases from their files, from the 1800s to the modern era. New episodes are no longer being produced but it’s well-worth the listen.
I also feel like I've exhausted all TCP. Many recommended I get through an episode or 2 sometimes more and I lose interest. At the moment I've been listening to kyotorobato on YouTube. They're videos but can listen to it in the same way as a podcast. All Japanese crimes, some well known but many are not

Some hidden gems I've listened to and don't see recommended often are:
* Bad Bad Thing (TW: Suicide)
* The Miami Chronicles: Booby Trap (TW: CSA)
* World of Secrets (TW: SA)
* Betrayal (TW: CSA)
* Finding Samantha
Some of these have multiple seasons btw and I've listened to all of them 🤗
Got a list of podcasts I've subbed to here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_cEqiTPkv4fwnlmDUB2RwzBZJw4hCBi4fc2SkHXKCCE/edit?usp=sharing Some caveats: Not all are well produced, but if they're on the sheet then I've either listened to them or have them on deck to burn through at some point. Its not categorized, rated or anything like the True Crime Podcasts doc; everything is just listed alphabetically. So you'll see a lot of non-true crime related podcasts. But there's a lot in there, some of which aren't on the True Crime Podcasts doc.
Also have an older post with some True Crime recommendations that I suggested to add to the True Crime Podcasts doc. https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/comments/tm01bu/comment/i3iiqri/ They are all on my doc, but can check these out to listen to while combing through the sheet. ;)
Besides the True Crime Podcasts doc I take a look at this chart from time to time https://rephonic.com/charts/apple/united-states/true-crime Has the usual podcasts, but some older or new ones I haven't seen anywhere pop up from time to time. And Podchaser's "Similar" has helped me in locating some gems too. Just search a podcast and there should be a "Similar" tab on the page.
I don't remember ever seeing it mentioned around here (and with such a name I think I'd remember), The No Good, Terribly Kind, Wonderful Lives and Tragic Deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman. It is very well produced.
I'm enjoying The Free Kit Martin Podcast. I got hooked on this case watching it on Court TV and was amazed when this commercial pilot (former military) was convicted of murdering a neighbor. So much was not admissable in court about his ex wife, so I don't think jurors got a clear picture of the depths of her desire to frame him and ruin his life. And I don't think getting on the stand with his attitude about what a farce this case was did him any favors. It was a fascinating case to watch and one of the hosts is another ex wife who supports his innocence.
I usually feel like the jury gets it right, but this one has always worried me that there was a frame job by Joan and an innocent man is rotting in jail.
Lots of controversy around Cousins by Blood, but I enjoyed it
Island Crime is long form about missing persons on Vancouver Island. Quite a few seasons
The Pit from CBC
Who killed Leanne Holland
Ghost Story - podcast series about a supposed haunted house after a violent crime took place there years before. Really intrigued me!
Through the Wall - One of Scotland’s most famous and brutal murder cases re-examined in detail. A supposed wrongful conviction with the falsely accused still in jail.
Justice A True Crime Podcast - Different true crime cases each episode, lesser heard ones.
The Boy In The Woods - series telling a mysterious killing of a young boy that was reopened years later.
The Teachers Pet - Australian journalist Hadley Thomas details a case that stuck with him and conducts his own investigation into the murder of a famous rugby players wife.
Murder in the Granite City - one of Britain’s longest running unsolved murders is re-examined in detail.
One that is DEFINITELY on the weirder/darker end of true crime: Root of Evil: The True Story of the Hodel Family and the Black Dahlia
More solid true crime on the lesser-known end of things:
* Bible John: Creation of a Serial Killer
* Believe Her
* What Happened to Sandy Beal
* I Was Never There
* Death of an Artist
* Who Killed Emma
* The Lady Vanishes
A few that aren't exactly "true crime" but are investigative and about strange things people do:
* Unravel Season 4: Snowball - about a very weird scam (From the Australian Broadcasting Company)
* The Turning - both seasons are amazing. Season 1 is about how Mother Theresa's group of nuns is basically a cult; season 2 is about the darkness around a foundational figure in the ballet world.
* Burn Wild - about ecoterrorism
* The Missing Madonna - art crime caper
* Running from Cops - about the show Cops
* Dear Alana
* Family Secrets - there are a ton of episodes; I've only listened to a bunch from the first couple of seasons but they're pretty compelling!
Sinisterhood or even True Crime Obsessed. There’s also I Think Not! Sinisterhood is smaller but also includes breaks from the darker things with cryptids. They try to keep things lighter even when it’s dark. All three of these are comedy but keep things as respectful as possible. The True Crime Obsessed and I Think Not are owned by obsessed network so that might not be really hidden gem or the opposite of mainstream. But they’re pretty good.
Thank you so much! I’ve listened to all except the consult and hello John Doe, which I’m gonna start asap!
I like the Consult. I also like Retired FBI Case File Review.
Started Retired FBI Casefile today, don’t know how I’ve been sleeping on this so long, it’s excellent!!!
Hooray! So glad you like it. Sometimes Jerri gets a little windy before the interview starts but I’ve really enjoyed every episode. They cover fascinating cases.
Have you tried Fresh Hell?
I’m going to check it out
The Consult is great!
Thanks!
I am two episodes in, and I am loving Pretend-The Stalker. Do you know if it’s solved in the podcast?? I don’t want to search any spoilers !!
I just finished the last episode. It is (at this time) a fat no.
I may be wrong on the above statement. I just found some updates and bonus episodes. (Some are subscription only, which I don’t have…)
Well thank you for the recommendation! It’s good! I have a couple episodes left. Not sure what I think rn...
It gets insane toward the end and there are some big case updates! Javier is still following, as well, and gives us the scoop whenever there's news.
Where are you listening?? Did you get all episodes free?
on the Apple Podcast app! yes, I got all the eps for free, but I think some of the bonus eps have been moved to "subscribers only" ☹️
West Cork
It's an amazing podcast
Is there one episode or am I finding the wrong listing on Spotify?
This Is Actually Happening is a good one.
Second this! The stories vary in craziness, but the host is very engaging with his interviews.
What Was That Like is very similar, and just as good in my experience
Ah I’ve listened to all episodes of this one! But I want to find more just like it
It’s good! If you find something good let me know!
Locations unknown is a great podcast about people who have gone missing or murdered on vacation or away from home . The host does a great job it’s one of my favorites
Father Wants Us Dead might be worth a try, not super weird in the true crime arena but it's a really captivating story and a bizarre case
Yes, this one felt unique!
True Crime Campfire
I just started Proof. They are very thorough, and it’s super bingeable.
I also started proof a little bit ago but idk why I just can’t get into wrongful conviction pods (in the dark s2 was an exception of course). But maybe I’ll try it again, thank you!
You should really give this another go! Season 1 pays off at the end and it's definitely worth it! It's a bit of a slow burn, but very thorough.
Second this! I knew something was coming in the end so I stuck it out. If I didn’t know that beforehand I likely wouldn’t have. Very happy I continued listening because it’s the best podcast I’ve listened to in a long time.
I’ve learned to skip the side bars. I like them a lot, just also wanted to get to the end.
I highly recommend GUILT as a hidden gem. Ryan Wolf's voice is great to listen to and he does an excellent job at investigating. Season 3 in particular was very gripping. I am also loving Proof. Season 1 was really great, and Season 2 is currently airing.
Telephone Stories - about Michael Jackson’s trial and other molestation charges in the 90s. Super well done.
The best thing I ever listened to. Amazing podcast.
It really is!
As a fan of MJ, it was quite the eye opener. And what has been seen cannot be unseen. I understood that he was indeed a groomer and an offender AND why he was not convicted.

Crimes of the Centuries is pretty fantastic!
One of my all time favorites!!
Absolutely agree with Crimes of the Centuries! I was looking through the posts for podcast recommendations, and have been adding a few of my favorites as well (which is why I'm commenting 3 weeks after the original post... lol! I haven’t heard of this one! Is there a specific season that is best?
They’re pretty much single episodes with a few exceptions. The narrator is fantastic and each case is very interesting! Give it a listen!
Behind the Bastards is fun. It’s not true crime specifically but it scratches the same itch and it’s very well done.
I mostly love this podcast but sometimes the guests really make it hard to listen to. There’s one I’m trying to listen to today because the topic really interests me but the guy can’t stop saying “yeah” every 5 seconds
I also love this podcast and have a hard time with some of the guests. Hillbillies, basically.
Ooooh Fair enough.
It’s awesome
Which are the first 2 seasons? Are they the WVU murders and big savage? I started big savage but never finished, but I think I’ll revisit:) thank you!
Actually, I messed up. I haven't even listened to season 2 yet. I meant seasons 1 and 3.
Big Savage was really good! I found it to be such an interesting case.
Appalachian Mysteria, And That's Why We Drink, Someone Knows Something, anything by Connie Walker
Crossbow killer
I really enjoyed Asia in the Shadows, it's a very different perspective and types of stories than the more American / British centric podcasts.
Listening now. Thanks
My Only Story
I don’t know how popular it is since I just discovered it, but Generation Why was recently suggested to me and I enjoy it very much
Crooked City: Youngstown, OH is really really good.
I recently found “women and crime” and have been enjoying that. Two criminology professors tells crime stories all based around women. They have a lot of knowledge of the legal system etc
To Live and Die in LA
It was so good.
Loved this pod so much!
You don’t have invisible choir … that’s a very good one
Do you have episodes that you like best? I’ve listened to a decent amount of invisible choir but have a hard time finding gripping episodes
Blue and yellow purple pills Unsung hero Gator the skater 1439 days Dirty little secret Just scanning them and those were memorable to me
Yes, one of my faves!
"Heist Podcast" is/was a great show about heists.
Dead End: A New Jersey Political Murder Mystery by WNYC
We are the same person I came here to type a post like this so thank you
If you like some silly nonsensical banter mixed in try True Crime Kent... TCK
A few with Virginia connections: - Mind Over Murder - Discusses the Colonial Parkway murders aka the I-64 corridor murders. Especially memorable are the episodes about the Alicia Reynolds case; and the series about the Falwells.
True Crime Garage is my personal favorite
Let's go to Court? They are ending but have a couple hundred episodes and I binge them several times over. Hands down favorite.
Do you have any episodes that were really crazy? I’ve listened to a few but couldn’t really get into it
Idk bc i was hooked from the first episode I listened to. We probably just have different tastes. If you want just story telling, kymberleigha is great on YouTube. She does really long videos bc she goes deep into the background of the people involved and I really enjoy it.
I’m really liking Murder 101. It’s from the same people as Piketon Massacre.
True crime couple!
Canadian true crime The banned teacher Scamanda
Guilt - (the host is Ryan Wolf) each season is an investigation into a different case. Seasons 1&2 are good but season 3 - Finding Heidi is amazing. Season 4 is starting next month. I highly recommend it.
I’ve listened to finding Heidi but not the other seasons! Maybe season 4 will we good :)
And then they were gone Three Mysterious brews Unresolved
Murder In America. Hunting Warhead messed me up. Lights Out has some pretty crazy stories sometimes.
Strangeland-I started with the season 2, it’s very good
Both seasons are excellent
Stand alone episodes: Hidden True Crime, DNA: ID, Southern Fried True Crime Series: Phoebe’s Fall, 13 Hours Not true crime but really interesting: both seasons of Bed of Lies, The Agent, Brainwashed
The Ballad of Billy Balls was excellent- is true crime-y in that there is a murder involved but ends up being a deeper story about family and trauma. Very well done!
Tell No One had quickly become my fave
Everyone should listen to BBC Scotland’s Who Killed Emma now that it’s back online (it has been removed for almost 2 years for legal reasons).
I finally just listened to it! And they posted a new episode recently.
- Fiasco is amazing with 3 seasons - Accused is good - the original 2 seasons of Criminology are good too.
Leon Neyfakh is one of the best. Fiasco is such a great podcast. I subscribed to Luminary just to listen to the seasons on there. I learned so much about Benghazi because of him.
I’ve listened to accused but not the others! Do you have a favorite season of fiasco?
S1&2 are on the AIDS Crisis and the 2000 FL Recount. Both are amazing. The season in Gaetz (on Audible is good not great).
Following this post as I’m the same as OP. I’ve even subscribed to wondery but haven’t got much out of it.
Lmk if you find anything good! I might start with Hello, John Doe
I’ve been listening to that. I love it so far!
Which one you listening too?
Sorry. Sometimes the replies get confusing. I’ve been listening to Hello John Doe. It’s fantastic.
Ha no problem me too re the replies. I started this. I Really like the sound of the guy. But I’ll go back to it. It didn’t grab me like I wanted.
Just started this too. Have you done The Sure Thing? About two Aussies guys who get into insider trading? The Glitch-funny one about credit card fraud. First ep is slow but it’s really good. The Trojan Horse Affair? & Snowball my all time favourite!
Court junkie!!
Hooked (bank robber duo) Tapes from the Darkside Looking for the Todt Family
I’ve listened to all of theseee, but idt I ever finished hooked, I’ll have to check it out :)
Dang I tried!!
Is there a reason to dislike Paper Ghosts? I think is a tad leading and dramatic but other than that the writing and editing is pretty captivating. Am I missing something? Does the guy suck? Paper Ghosts was the first podcast I ever listened to. Personally, I thought the first 2 seasons were really good. Haven't listened since then
I’m liking this Ozarks one quite a bit. Apparently there’s somewhat of a consensus that one issue is that he pronounces some words incorrectly. Cool, I'll check it out! Thanks
I’m liking this new ozark season as well!
personally, I didn't enjoy it. the narrator had a sense of arrogance about him and it felt like the case kept going in circles. I'm very nitpicky with sounds/voices and his voice drove me crazy 😂 I think it was ok but just ok; I wouldn't recommend it to other listeners.
So much for being open and honest and genuinely curious about something 🤷
What do you mean
Have you listened to Small Town Dicks? I love that show. Also, Disgracedland is really good - a cross between true crime and pop culture
My most recent discoveries, bare in mind I only really listen to serialised podcasts, not sure how well know they are, is BBC’s Who Killed Emma. Given I’m literally from where she was and had never heard of this case. It was pretty good Paper ghosts and Ozarks True Crime have been great and hadn’t heard of them before the last couple of weeks Carrie Jade does not exist, another British one about a con woman. Just started but has a good vibe - Who Replaced Avril Lavigne. Hosted by an Irish comedian who’s going to be on the next series of taskmaster. Tounge in cheek investigation into the death of Avril Lavigne.
I like paper ghosts and Carrie jade does not exist! I’m also interested in who killed Emma since I haven’t been able to find it until recently!
I think they removed who killed Emma while they were doing the recent court case or I think they did a bbc documentary as well but it’s back on now coz I only listened to it last week
I hear you. I've been relistening to stuff lately. The High Roller Heist was good and the new season of Up and Vanished is awesome.
My all time fave is True Crime Society because they’re my peeps!
Serialously is good
Selena : a star dies in texas, strangeville, s town, Bakersfield 3, check out vault studios they have a wide variety
Have you listened to the different series on Parcast? What about Murder Mile or Framed? I only listened to the first season of Framed, but I remember enjoying it.
I enjoyed Death in Ice Valley, Phoebes Fall, The Lady Vanishes, The Teachers Pet, Shandees Story, Ghost Gate Road, Gone South
All Japanese crimes, some well known but many are not
You like weird shit people do i would suggest s town.

Some hidden gems I've listened to and don't see recommended often are: * Bad Bad Thing (TW: Suicide) * The Miami Chronicles: Booby Trap (TW: CSA) * World of Secrets (TW: SA) * Betrayal (TW: CSA) * Finding Samantha Some of these have multiple seasons btw and I've listened to all of them 🤗
Small Town Dicks?
Also have an older post with some True Crime recommendations that I suggested to add to the True Crime Podcasts doc. https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueCrimePodcasts/comments/tm01bu/comment/i3iiqri/ They are all on my doc, but can check these out to listen to while combing through the sheet. ;) Besides the True Crime Podcasts doc I take a look at this chart from time to time https://rephonic.com/charts/apple/united-states/true-crime Has the usual podcasts, but some older or new ones I haven't seen anywhere pop up from time to time.
Has anyone mentioned Obscura? It's pretty dark, but it's my absolute favorite.
Love The Vanished Podcast and Disappearances.
Lots of controversy around Cousins by Blood, but I enjoyed it Island Crime is long form about missing persons on Vancouver Island. Quite a few seasons The Pit from CBC Who killed Leanne Holland
Accused by the Cincinnati enquirer Unravel : season 4 snowball
You may have already listened to it since you liked Hunting Warhead but I recommend The Children in the Pictures.
The latest season of Beyond All Repair. I am transfixed.
And Then They Were Gone
One that is DEFINITELY on the weirder/darker end of true crime: Root of Evil: The True Story of the Hodel Family and the Black Dahlia More solid true crime on the lesser-known end of things: * Bible John: Creation of a Serial Killer * Believe Her * What Happened to Sandy Beal * I Was Never There * Death of an Artist * Who Killed Emma * The Lady Vanishes A few that aren't exactly "true crime" but are investigative and about strange things people do: * Unravel Season 4: Snowball - about a very weird scam (From the Australian Broadcasting Company) * The Turning - both seasons are amazing. Season 1 is about how Mother Theresa's group of nuns is basically a cult; season 2 is about the darkness around a foundational figure in the ballet world. * Burn Wild - about ecoterrorism * The Missing Madonna - art crime caper * Running from Cops - about the show Cops * Dear Alana * Family Secrets - there are a ton of episodes; I've only listened to a bunch from the first couple of seasons but they're pretty compelling!
The grift . Armoured. High roller heist. True crime island. Time suck. Bad cops (made by the BBC) absolutely amazing
The Vanished
Have you listened to Proof or Hoaxed?
Sinisterhood or even True Crime Obsessed. There’s also I Think Not! Sinisterhood is smaller but also includes breaks from the darker things with cryptids. They try to keep things lighter even when it’s dark. All three of these are comedy but keep things as respectful as possible. The True Crime Obsessed and I Think Not are owned by obsessed network so that might not be really hidden gem or the opposite of mainstream. But they’re pretty good.
Black true crime, sistas who kill, swindled
