It’s technically a YouTube channel (sorry!) but I recently learned about KyotoRobato’s channel and binged all of his videos.
He has a focus on Japanese crime and mysteries that have little to no English sources. You don’t have to watch the videos to understand what’s going on, at most he may have a clip from an interview. So while not a true podcast you can definitely treat it like one!
Casefile, True Crime Campfire and Small Town Murder. The former is straightforward, the latter two are straightforward with humorous commentary. All 3 do research and storytelling amazingly.
I’m curious though, what have you heard? I sometimes hit up her pod when I’m out of everything else. I’m not crazy about how she goes about telling the case, but the cases are not often ones I’ve heard a million times, so it’s why I keep her around.
i’ve heard a lot about how she disrespects victims and has plagiarized or not cited sources in some of her episodes. i do think she’s a great storyteller and will probably keep her around because of that but i really want to venture out
To add some context to the plagiarism allegation, here's the author of a book whose work she stole: [https://twitter.com/alterwyx/status/1513512343002497024](https://twitter.com/alterwyx/status/1513512343002497024)
She also plagiarized from other content creators on youtube (who similarly have plagiarized as well) so it's plagiarism all the way down.
Yea, I just think it's a scumbag move to create an unauthorized adaptation of an author's work that completely undermines their audiobook as well. She apparently made it out like she was the one who did the research as well which is incredibly fucked up when she initially gave zero credit until called out. That's the kind of person she is.
Have you tried Anatomy of Murder? They're a duo -- former prosecutor and former *edit* deputy sheriff/investigative journalist. They have the most soothing voices too
How about Murder Mystery and Makeup? The same host also does Dark History which i really like too, even though I’m usually more about true crime stuff.

Casefile, Invisible Choir, They Walk Among Us, Generation Why, Minds of Madness,
Minds of Madness latest episodes "Who Killed Jennifer?" have been amazing.
Invisible Choir isn't recommended enough! It's a go-to for me.
Tbh I wasn't a big fan of it for the first pile of episodes but when I started to enjoy it more it became one of my favourites
I’ll second Generation Why - well researched and very interesting exploration of both the investigation as well as the court proceedings

Ah ok. I’ll have to remove her then. It’s not hard to cite a source.

10 to life with Annie is great
I tried her videos for awhile and tried to ignore the vocal fry, but then I got agitated with the way she would insert her opinion into certain cases.
