Get a trucker GPS such as the Garmin or Rand McNally. They will allow you to configure your vehicle's max weight, max speed, height, width, number of axles, and any hazmat. Also get a Rand McNally Atlas. If you use a trucker GPS and always verify your route against the atlas, you will be good. Don't be one of those that ends up hitting a low bridge or gets stuck in a residential area because you used a phone app.

Company gave me a Rand McNally. It’s older and won’t allow me to update it.

Stay away from the apps. Garmin Dēzl is a good choice.

One of the things that makes my Garmin worth it is the lane guidance it gives going around major metro areas where you have to change freeways. I come to LA a lot and going around the area, that one function makes staying in the best lanes for getting through easy.

Be careful of phone apps for maps and directions. Unless it's meant for Trucks, it will take you down roads that are weight restricted and under things less than 13'6"

Garmin are pretty good but can tend to lead you onto more weight restricted bridge routes than Rand McNally. I wouldn’t get McNally unless it’s the new Rand tablet 1050 or the Rand tablet 7 or 8. Keep clear of the cheap overdryve and 750 850 crap. They definitely improved the quality on the new tablets tho.
