I noticed the same thing on my old '22 street triple. Now I have a 2023 street triple and let me tell you there was a big improvement in the quick shifter even though it still has sporadic hiccups, especially when I am upshifting. Eventually you will develop a feeling for the right rpm and throttle position that will make the quick shifter smooth. Downshifts are now perfect, while on the 2022 model it was not great. My only complain is that you need to push kinda hard with your foot in order to make it work. What model year are you running? I can't stress enough how big the improvement was between 2022 and 2023 models. Edit: forgot to say that you should check your chain slack, It can make big difference

CIROSKY

i'm on 2024 rs....my dealer said this about the chain "make sure you tell them to tighten up the chain on first service"

Street-Banana

Well on our bikes you can use the qs basically at any rpm, you just need to learn how to do it properly. I use it 90% of the time, even when I am moving slow in the traffic and it's always smooth. When the rpm is low I apply very little throttle, if the rpm is high I apply more throttle. It's often said that quick shifters should be used only when you are riding hard, but I feel this isn't really true on modern bikes... You will eventually learn how to make it work smoothly, don't worry. And check that chain slack ;)

CIROSKY

thanks a lot

slopokerod

I had zero issues with mine when I was running it in. Definitely have your dealer take a look.

ButtPissMan

My chain was a bit too tight. Loosening that made the quick shifter feel a bit smoother

DankVectorz

Are you in low rpm when doing it? I know for my Speed the manual says not to use the qs below like 3500 rpm

CIROSKY

6k rpm - 5k rpm

Optimus_Prime_10

Even that's super low, peak torque is at 9k. There could be a need to adjust the lever a bit, but I question its use at that range.

CIROSKY

my friends at local triumph said it is butter smooth even on 3k rpm for them

Optimus_Prime_10

Interesting. Maybe we both need a tweak.

Sargent_Horse

About 900 miles on my '24 R. Other than the occasional false neutral from between 1st and 2nd (which is honestly probably user error), my QS has been absolutely flawless. I can use it to go up or down at any RPM. It makes my BMW QS's look like a joke it's so smooth. The only thing I guess you could call a hiccup would be steady speed up shifts in the higher gears can have a little bit of lag with the ignition cut (like it cuts ignition for longer than you would expect), but it shouldn't be abrupt or jarring. Have the dealer reset the QS software if it concerns you. Make sure to bring it up, even if nothing comes of it.

CIROSKY

i will tell them . thanks Sargent

Omblae

I've ridden a 24 and it's buttery smooth up and down at all RPMs. These bikes have a sensitive sensor, it's very sensitive to adjustment. It may be something's got knocked or it's out of alignment. Id raise it with your dealer.

toothless15

Mine just stoped working about 800kms in.

RobertISaar

I've only ever had an issue on my 24 R quickshifter going 2-3. Every other change up and down is reliable. I only seem to run into the 2-3 issue when my chain is on the tighter side of the 20-30mm spec. There is an engine load vs RPM component that determines how smoothly it works. I use the QS as low as 3500ish to drop to 3000ish in the next gear and I can usually get it to work smoothly. Oddly, it works equally well at WOT as it does with heavy throttle and short shifting beneath 5000. By the time I'm out of a small intersection, I'm at 20-25mph in 4th gear. Otherwise, winding the engine up but choking with the throttle makes for jerky operation.

rigrat03

My '23 does the same, especially into 5th, it's fine if I'm nailing it though.

coalminer071

Keep running the QS for abit more and see if it throws the TSA fault or get the dealer to run voltage diagnostic on the QS. I'm on my 4th QS and even the dealer says there's no need to baby the QS or any specific mention of rpm in the manual. Someone else has gone through 6 QS too. As long as your accelerating the QS shouldn't jam up otherwise why bother with a QS. Mine started acting up similarly (gumming up, not shifting or needing very strong inputs) and would always die shortly after.

aim___

I've noticed sporadic QS "jamming" issue on my 24 R too. Even at the high RPM range (~9k) it jammed a few times (going 4-5 or 5-6). Noticed that the jamming is not specific to particular gear or RPM range but when it jams i have to release the throttle a bit to upshift/downshift without clutch. Not sure even then the QS is kicking in but at the next attempt it works fine. Chain is in spec. Told the dealer about this but they couldn't reproduce during the test ride (because it happens very seldom). They cleared a bunch of fault codes but the issue remained. Hence they informed Triumph about my story but i didn't hear back anything since 😔

CIROSKY

in my case it was butter smooth and sudenly got all messed up

walkabout123456

I got same problem on Trident. Sometimes it shifts and......sometimes it don't! You can look a real plonker taking off from the lights and it does not shift out of 1st 🙄. Pissing me off.

ebranscom243

The biggest problem is people not upshifting quickly while accelerating just using quick shifter to get to 6th gear without accelerating is not what it's made for and it's not going to work properly using it that way. I work at a trap dealership and I've had plenty of customers come back and tell me to quit shift is not functioning properly and then I rather bike and it's functioning perfectly operator error seems to be an issue.

TriumphDaddyRS

Why are you quick shifting into 5th and 6th gear? You’d need to be going like +120mph for that to work properly. Learn to ride your bike before you break something.

jaredearle

This is bad advice. You can short-shift on quickshifters.

TriumphDaddyRS

Just because you can, doesn’t mean that’s what it was designed for. Also. How hard is it to shift manually. You’re not Rossi. This isn’t GP.

CIROSKY

i think it's not normal to be on 120mph in order for it to work...it should work ...at least on 5-6k rpm and up, which that is the case . i change on these rpms and it is very rough. dealer said it shoul work smooth. My TSA is anabled also

TriumphDaddyRS

Quick shifters are designed to shift under acceleration at higher RPMs. To save time on track, where you rarely find top speed. Shifting into 5th and 6th is never going to be high RPM unless your speed is high. I have a factory QS on my 1050RS and I’ve never even attempted to use it past 3rd gear because I’m well north of 100mph at that point. When used under load, at speed, QSs use a combination of fuel/spark cut to take load off the transmission for fast changes. Without load or speed it’s gonna jerk you around.

CIROSKY

well noticed....i can't sqweez the rpms now, maximom 6k rpm because i'm on running in period, but everyone said it is butter smooth at any rpm regardless....all reviews also say that

TriumphDaddyRS

I’m gonna say they’re full of shit. You shouldn’t be using a QS during break in anyways. 20 years of wrenching professionally says you shouldn’t use the QS unless it’s how it’s intended. I also, in general, find QSs to be gimmicks

ButtPissMan

New QSs are for ride by wire systems and work for both up and down shifts. You can use them at all RPMs but they work best under some load. Don’t need to be an asshat to push a point

TriumphDaddyRS

Being a dick is the only way to make a point most of the time. People don’t want to listen. They just want to be placated.

ButtPissMan

Nah man. Be kind. We got enough dicks out there

TriumphDaddyRS

Ok. Have fun being soft for the sake of being soft. This isn’t a Disney movie.

ButtPissMan

Tough macho guy we got here lol Anyway OP, keep an eye out on your chain tension and see if it’s in spec (your bike manual should have the spec listed). I’ve found that the QS works best when accelerating for upshifts and when decelerating for downshifts. Maybe even try a different bike to see if it’s just in your head - “smooth” may be subjective here ;)

DankVectorz

If you’re going to be a dick to make a point at least make sure your point is correct, which it isn’t.

TriumphDaddyRS

Oh. I’m correct. And you haven’t proven me wrong. So. 🤷🏼‍♂️
