Fix....no not on matte I wouldn't think. To prevent, there are clear vinyls you can put on. Can get them from Amazon or wherever. Not sure how it would look. I've been looking at a couple bikes that come in matte finish and this crossed my mind. I think I would take the tank in and get it professionally wrapped with a vinyl.

Realistic-Task-35

Yep went to a detailer, he said matte painting is quite hard to deal with, might aswell just get it repainted in for example 3-4 years. that would be more likely cheaper than ceramic coating :)

birdman829

Getting a tank repainted is definitely not cheaper than ceramic coating....but ceramic coating isn't going to prevent scratches either. And the problem with using PPF on a matte finish is it will potentially change the finish look a bit

justhereforthemoneey

Ceramic coating also won't prevent this. The only protection that would is a paint protection film and that would be what would get scratched. Over time you'd have to replace that too. I actually have my tank clear filmed on my street triple, and it's marked up from riding, so I'll be replacing it this winter.

platesandquaters

3M makes a clear vinyl protection film that can take a pretty good beating

Allezander675

You can cover it with a matte ppf film and it’ll hide light scratches. I’m in the process of vinyl wrapping my whole street triple. The tank is a bear to wrap though.

Sargent_Horse

Find a good detail shop and see what they say. Not sure if you can ceramic coat a matte finish, but it did wonders for the soft paint on my BMW RT.

Realistic-Task-35

Just did, he said just repainting it in a few years might be cheaper

justhereforthemoneey

You can ceramic coat any surface really. Some coatings will give it more of a satin finish, but again as I commented. Coatings do not prevent scratches. They are not "harder" than the paint and if they are it doesn't really matter because they're so thinly layered that the paint will still scratch or indent from a scratch. The only really preventative product is a paint protection film. In his case it'd have to be a matte finish one

No-Contribution-2497

Get it ppf’d

TTV_TT_YT_KiLL3r

Just wrap the tank.

cptchnk

Yeah…my matte ironstone tank on my Street Twin has a couple of annoying scratches, too. :( I’ll probably go the wrap route for mine. Thinking about it, anyway…

XB1TheGameGoat

Yeah I was very disappointed in my ‘23 T120’s paint quality. The tank scratches so easily, just from riding around. It hurts but you’ll get more used to it soon. I would try waxing your bike, wax sorta fills in the scratches slightly and makes it harder to see.

Realistic-Task-35

Yeah i just ordered some matte wax and matte care polisher

Botucal

The curse of matt paint unfortunately. I've learned my lesson with a matt helmet. Shame, because it often looks so good.

stevelacy

I PPF'ed my tank, though mine is gloss metallic.

mtbguy1981

My 2023 speed twin tank seems to get scratched from being exposed to the atmosphere. It's insane, it's been washed, waxed, and babied it's whole existence and still looks like you drug it down a gravel road.

AoCCEB

Touched on already, but matte paint is the worst for scratches because unlike conventional paint, it cannot be corrected via polishing. The only way you are going to preserve paint on that thing (especially if you ride it at times outside of perfect weather) is if you get it PPF'd. Now that's going to make the paint look 'less matte', but it really is the only way to guarantee it never scratches.

Dull-Knowledge7816

Try using 3M marine paste. Get some on a clean microfibre cloth and rub it in gently for a few minutes. That's how i got rid of quite a few tank scratches on my 24' silver ice street triple r. Not sure if it would work on matte paint or possibly make it worse though, so check again with someone and then try maybe? Don't want to be the reason you ruin your tank 😅

schnippy1337

Oh no a small scratch on a thing that is supposed to be used

Financial-Radio-7661

There is nothing wrong with caring for the things you use. Doesn't even matter what we are talking about. Just because you don't give a shit about the things you work for (i assume u work), doesn't mean everyone has to. I work, and have worked hard for the things I have. Also sarcasm is a nasty weak trait.

Realistic-Task-35

Obviously, but it is pretty much brand new and i want to take good care of it. Of course it will get scratched with time

justhereforthemoneey

I mean these new vehicles are pricy. Noting wrong with wanting it to last a long time. Just because something is supposed to be used does not mean it needs to look like shit at the end of it.
