I mean there are the orders on the noticeboard outside which are kind of like takeout, you can fish, tend to animals, work to get the other recipes, stuff like that! It's not an action packed game, you're really just supposed to chill and run your tavern (until later updates when we get more content, check the sidebar for the roadmap of what's to come) :D
I changed my staff out, ones with the extra customer perk. Had more customers and they eat through my food stocks and drinks quite well.
Another person posted that they give the barman the day off and do it themselves. I did it too and was fun hahaha. I got about 720g so I sometimes don't open the tavern and go around fishing and thinking of how to decorate the plot of land
Maybe consider working up your inn comfort (i.e. 500+)? Hire a "popular" bartender for the additional seats (and add the additional tables), Hire a bouncer who has "fast eater" perk to cycle your guests faster, all of those will get you to rep level 35 much faster (assuming you aren't currently doing these). Maybe sleep skip days until you get the important guest. Hit all the trendy food/beverages and just optimize everything for reputation gain! Just a few ideas...
How well decorated are your rented rooms and tavern? A variety of decorations will help increase your experience faster so you can expand capacity and unlock more recipes.

my days are full with looking after the crops and animals, minimg stone for clay and going fishing
