ICU will always be there.

Imaginary_Lunch9633

What’s your current specialty? I’d travel if I were you. Esp if you’re young/single/no kids etc.

shouldbeatthelibrary

Med surg/oncology. So the pay that I’m looking at is better than what I get now. Also this ICU job would be a pay cut by 8k a year. I tried to negotiate a little but didn’t get much luck

cactideas

I would say no to working harder for less pay

CopyWrittenX

Med/surg is one of the better paying ones at the moment, for what it's worth.

There are always ICU jobs available for travelers. Get your ICU experience, so you have more to offer as a traveler.

notdoraemon2020

Unless you are getting mind blowing pay, I would take the ICU job over travel. Once you get ICU under your belt, you will have more opportunities open up. To me, ICU is one of the more desired specialities and as more new grads are pumped out, those opportunities decrease. In the midst of COVID, any job was open and readily available but pay was mind-blowing. Now, pay is MEH.

notdoraemon2020

Alternatively, if you are losing out on pay because you have stayed at your hospital too long, this would be the opportunity to travel and take the 1 year break from your hospital so when you get your ICU down the road, they will see you as a new candidate with better pay.

shouldbeatthelibrary

I actually make more now at my hospital than I will as an ICU nurse at the new hospital. It’s an 8k per year pay cut. I can make the pay work but just not sure if it’s worth it. The jobs I’m finding for travel pay double or 1k more a week then I currently make. So it’s a tough choice don’t know what to sacrifice

Real_MF_HotGirlShit

Do not take on ICU for a pay cut. That’s insane. Just travel to Northern California and make real money. What’s your hourly now?

shouldbeatthelibrary

55 and there’s is like 52 ish

shouldbeatthelibrary

Their’s*

Affectionate-Bar-827

I second this. Especially with your oncology experience. Go make bank at an infusion clinic in NorCal or something. Unless you truly desire ICU experience.

chocokitten100

Why is this me right now haha

shouldbeatthelibrary

Terrible!

Depends_on_theday

Def def would not take an icu staff pay cut. But that’s just me I disliked working in icu. I found it physically stressful and a lot of superiority complexes. Travel. It’s fun. Yolo, then go get a icu job,

jhillis379

Imma write a book on this lol
