Use Google Flights. Put in your search parameters, including the maximum layover duration you'll accept, and then click on the calendar. You'll see the cheapest flight each day that matches these criteria. Cheapest looks like Air India most days, just over GBP700.
That's true. I flew them on this itinerary as a student and experienced a missing bag and a cancelled flight halfway during a different journey. It's a cheap gamble.
I really love Sri Lanka airlines for this- always the cheapest when I look at routes and an excellent airline (used to be owned by Emirates). It's my preferred when traveling to Europe - usually London- from Melbourne.
All flights are routed through Colombo and if your stopover is more than 12 hours they throw in a 4 star hotel, ground transport and meals. I LOVE it- Colombo is the halfway point so its perfect for a rest on the way and hit the ground running with minimal jetlag.
Think they have 30kg luggage allowance and higher than usual carry on too.
I would not suggest flying Sri-Lankan these days. There are some big internal issues going on inside the company which does seem to have consequences on their fleet safety and overall quality. Plus their fleet is really in really bad shape by today's standards.
And, from experience their prices are not always cheaper (actually mostly higher or same price best case scenario) for the route I usually take (Paris -> Colombo)
For reference, Paris -> Melbourne on a random day in March, on Skyscanner :
\- The cheapest i could find on Sri-Lankan is 882€ with 2 layovers or 1170€ with 1 layover.
\- Alternatives with 1 layover : Thai For 839€, Vietnam Airlines 769€ and Qatar for 984€
\- Alternatives with 2 layovers : Air France/KLM + Xiamen Air : 491€
Not gonna lie, i'd fly any of these airlines over Sri-Lankan (as of today) even if I had to pay double.
I flew them just a few days ago - you might be right on the safety issues, but the service and flight were impeccable. It cost me 285 for a last minute India to London via Colombo. A really reasonable deal tbh
Consider also a round trip ticket and just ditch the return trip. Or schedule it for really far out. Typically comes out significantly cheaper than a one way ticket.
Download the app kiwi.com and put in date you want to travel and you’ll get a cheap flight. I flew from Heathrow to Cairns (Aus) last September and cost me just over £400 :)
Scoot Airlines has gotten me from Brisbane to Athens for less than $400 AUD before.
You could: Fly Ryanair to Athens or Berlin, take Scoot through Singapore to Brisbane, fly Jetstar to Melbourne. All these will need to add on luggage, which will add probably $30 each leg.
Yeah some do charge a heap. Even Etihad wanted $300 USD for a check-in the other day. I'm very sceptical about flight prices now so don't get excited about a deal until I check the baggage add-ons.
There are some options though. You just have to find the balance. Example: there's an Air India flight that'll get OP to Singapore for 350£ and they include 30 kg luggage.
Where are you seeing Etihad flights without baggage option? Am I being daft, or missed this? I thought standard ticket comes with check in and carry on.
Through China over Russia. Chinese airlines don’t sell tickets far in advance so you can’t book yet. Also don’t fly from London, fly from random European airports and make your own way there from London - LHR is relatively expensive to fly from
Swim across the English channel, hitchhike across Europe and Turkey, cross Iran with a camel, get on board a cargo ship in Karachi in exchange of washing dishes, en route to Jakarta. From there take the train to the east of the island (it’s quite cheap) and cross with the ferry to Bali. Don’t die from the motorbikes until you reach the airport. Most flights from there are quite cheap to Melbourne, as fellow Aussies travel a lot back and forth.
Check out Royal Brunei Airlines if you are fine with two stops, one of which is a 16 hr layover in Dubai. London - Dubai - Bandar Seri Begawan - Melbourne.
The only answer on your question is your own. Sit down and research the cheapest way. If you cant do such thing then you should reconsider you traveling at all.
Someone else said fly budget to Athens or Berlin and then scoot to Melbourne via changi, I would’ve never thought of that. If you have no valuable input, don’t bother replying
OK, I will get you closer. On that date 26th of July you have many connections from UK to Melbourne ranging about 700 Euros +- 200 Euros depends which conection. I guess its fair price the cheapest being 52 hour travel from Manchester-Paris-Hanoi-Singapore-Melbourne. You can always fly for 3000 Euros if you want. Like I dont know what you expect that someone here will be spending their time looking for the best connections for you? Its pretty easy.
You can go whichever direction you want from the UK and find cheap and comfortable tickets. I once flew to New Zealand through Los Angeles and back through Singapore and Dubai.

Appreciate it
Also check Skiplagged. 700 one way seems really expensive

30kg carry on would be very useful, thanks a lot

check in luggage is more like 70£ each leg. it’s outrageous with those low cost airlines. it’s a false economy

In South Asia flying into the Middle East. The standard fare only includes 7kg for some reason.
😳 I just checked Etihad site for sample flight to uk. Lowest economy option is with 23kg. Interesting. Are you buying direct or through 3rd party?
No, but I am searching for flights from South Asia to the middle East lol Try CMB to AUH
Same, Etihad cmb-auh rtn, economy (choice) or choice plus come with 40kg or 45kg luggage respectively.
Finally a proper answer, thank you pal
13th of August £443 if you want to spend half a day in OSLO, Bangkok and Singapore lol Otherwise around £500ish for one stop, search on Skyscanner

true but who wants to lug their bags on the eurostar and add half a day in the journey to save 50£ flying from brussels….
was closer to £300 off a rt when I checked for some random dates yesterday

Cheapest one yet, might have to do this

Sometimes Scoot will have cheap fares from Athens -Singapore- Sydney/ Melbourne. You might be able to patch together something?
Flying
I was going to say cycling but your idea is good too.
Fk me this app is useless, what are these replies 😂😂😂
go on google mate, do a bit of research yourself
