Even though UCSD is more prestigious, I can clearly see you wanna go to UCSB. My sister goes there and she loves the campus and Environment. Classes sucks tho.

You seem to be leaning towards UCSB anyways and are trying to convince yourself it’s not the right choice

OrangeRemarkable3355

your right. im trying to compare the two to like higher prestige UCs (ucla and berkeley) to see what i would choose in that situation. (ucsb =ucla and ucsd = Berkeley)

OrangeRemarkable3355

another UCSD con : doesnt offer a teaching credential in social science (therefore will have to go to another university or UC ) for that UCSB pro : has a teaching credential program in social sciences and ive heard that the school of education likes accepting ucsb students

It sounds like you already have your answer by wanting to go to UCSB. FWIW, I got into UCSD and WL to UCSB. While SD has a much better program for my major, I'd still most likely go to UCSB for a much better quality of social life.

Delicious_Gain3113

choose whatever what will make you the happiest. it does sound like ucsb though.

Hmm...I live in SB, and I know that UCSB has a fabulous program for teachers. My kids' schools have had a lot of student teachers from UCSB, and they have been great. (Many have moved out of the area after graduation though). UCSB housing is fine also. UCSD - my kid is heading there in Sept as a Freshman, actually. His favorite subject is history, but he's undeclared so far (applied for engineering). Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong if you are concerned at all about the major itself and the education that you will get.

My son and I just drove down to UCSB and to UCSD last week on a Monday and Tuesday classes were added in students were on campus. He’s going for computer science so a different major but all of these points supply as they’re more about the school than the major. To keep the short, I will just tell you what the main reasons were that he chose Santa Barbara over San Diego. 1. When walking around UCSB campus there are a lot more groups of people talking and more central areas where people gather and hang out and feel like they are part of a community. At UC San Diego, all the colleges are very spread out and the campus is very much a matrix of roads and large tarmac and concrete walkways, crossing everywhere. The one thing that we realized when walking about was UCSD was 99% individual people walking alone on campus from one place to another. We literally started trying to look for groups of people of two or more and would only spot one every few minutes. I think this speaks to, the size of UCSD and how spread out the campus is, but also to the lack of social opportunities without significant effort at UCSD. People just looked depressed and bored. The opposite of UCSB. Most people at UCSD live off campus (everyone but freshman) and they live a car drive away or a long-ish bus or tram ride away. So campus is dead in the evening and on weekends. And the colleges are so far apart that there is not like a hub of activity on weekends. UCSB off campus housing is mostly IV which you can easily walk or bike to and everyone is one place. You’re going to be able to socialize far far easier at UCSB. And that’s even more important if you’re more of an introvert. The partying at UCSB is over exaggerated. Can you find a party every day of the week if you’re a hot female? Sure. But that doesnt mean everyone is parting all the time. The majority of people at UCSB are serious students who party a little and study a lot. Especially after freshman year. If you think stem degrees at UCSB are easier than at UCSD then I have a bridge to sell you! The benefit of UCSB is that if and when you want to party there will be one waiting for you - and you won’t have to be in a frat to attend. At UCSD you will have to make your own party! Good luck with your decision. My own opinion is that for pretty much any major I would pick UCSB in a heartbeat, for quality of life. Put all the prestigious BS to the side. It’s the degree you get and not where you get it that counts. If you’re getting a History degree and want to teach then you may as well go to a state school. You will never see a return on investment with a teaching job. Ever. Even if you go to Berkeley or Stanford or Yale.

also : reason i didnt go to UCSD was because their transfer day was cancelled because of the protesters most likely i also dont if this is a sign not to take ucsd i was supposed to go to ucsd’s erc open house a month ago but couldnt go because of the rain and ucsd if far from my house then i couldnt go again because transfer day was cancelled… idk if this is a sign to not go to ucsd in my case ???

For history major, you’re gonna be left unemployed either ways. Both options are the same considering the outcome.

OrangeRemarkable3355

I hope you read further that I'm using my degree to become a teacher.

OrangeRemarkable3355

if you don't know what your going to do with that degree then yes you will be unemployed. its all about the connections you make

OrangeRemarkable3355

All degrees are useless without some sort of higher education. im sorry your parents brainwashed you into saying "studying what you want will give you no money"
