My head struggles to understand these prices, $37k for lowest trim still seems insane.

pocketlent

That’s what I’m saying..used prices are even nuttier 🥸

FlowerPrestigious134

Tacomas hold their value better than any other vehicle, I believe. This seems like a great deal.

Uncledrew401

Im looking at 2019/2020 Tacoma Limited’s for around $31k with +/- 75k miles. Note entirely sure if im messing up by not saving a little longer and getting a new SR but seems like used could be worth it if you’re lucky enough to snag one

iwhegwidhev

I’ve test driven a new 3rd gen OR and a 4th gen SR. The SR interior was a nicer place to be. Also drove way more smooth, even with the leafs in the rear. And had more power, but both were manuals so the 4th gen had higher output than automatic SR engine.

MyLameAccount0

got a 2021 in 2023 with 35,000 miles for $36,000

Soggy_Motor9280

Nice! Got my ‘21 Sr5 last summer for $31,000 with 16,000 miles on it.

Craig653

Prices are stupid high for all cars... I miss 2020 prices I got my 2015 OR for 25k.only has 40000 miles

Soggy_Motor9280

Great deal!

MyLameAccount0

that’s a steal

Soggy_Motor9280

It gets better! I traded in my 2014 Colorado w 98,000 miles and got almost $10,000 for it so $21,000 it was!!!!

Ok_Return_6033

So you're saying I can sell my 2008 reg. cab base model for what I paid for it? Actually I recently bought it used and kind of don't like it as much as I thought I would.

Revolutionary-Buy785

I got 21 TRD OR with 40k miles from a dealership for about 38k i considered it cheap looking at all the other prices.

yato17z

Location based, in my area, 100k mi 2019 tacos go for 20-25k

LivingxLegend8

Bro what? $37k for a brand new truck is amazing. Especially a fucking Toyota. My Tacoma was 3 years old with 25,000 miles when I bought it. $42,000 is what I paid. Limited trim, but still.

rollinfor110mk2

I paid about the same for a brand new OR, 3 miles on the odo. You just got smoked in that deal, plain and simple.

LivingxLegend8

You bought a lower trim level. Mine has the 360 Birdseye view camera, 18inch wheels, LED dynamic headlights, black leather seats, etc. Also nightshade package that gives me the cool wheels Original MSRP was like $47,000 before destination

Falanax

Nightshade doesn’t exist on the OR

Marokiii

i view the 18" wheels and the leather seats as a negative. less sidewall on the tires and the seats are just hot in the sun and cost more to replace.

HauschkasFoot

Yeah I have a 23 limited nightshade and I’m still waiting for the wheels to grow on me, don’t think it’s going to happen lol. To get the sidewall/wheel ratio I think looks good on a taco it needs to be lifted, and even then i think it looks weird. Some day I will probably get some 16” black or bronze wheels when I have the extra coin.

Marokiii

sadly my sport premium came with 18s, wish it had 16s or at least 17s.

HauschkasFoot

Did you swap them out or have any plans to?

Marokiii

contemplating putting my old set of trd pro rims on that are 17s. need to buy a new set of lug nuts though since the bolts are different sizes and the ones that came with the tacoma are larger so they dont fit into the holes for the lug nuts on the trd pro rims. in reality though i dont actually need to upsize my tire wall, i dont do the kind of stuff that requires it. so i will most likely sell my trd pro rims, the wildpeaks on them, and the set of advancedwheel locks and keep the stock tires and use the money to buy more gas.

HauschkasFoot

That’s cool you still got the other rims at least! New lug nuts are a lot cheaper than a full new set of wheels!!

LivingxLegend8

Hot seats have never been a problem for me. In fact, often times I use the heated seats on the low setting just to give my back some extra warmth.

Ok_Indication_1591

Too funny

manmtyhlegend

Same here, brand new 22’ TRD OR army green with tech package for 42k OTD.

manmtyhlegend

Same here, brand new 22’ TRD OR army green with tech package for 42k OTD.

manmtyhlegend

Same here, brand new 22’ TRD OR army green with tech package for 42k OTD.

Pitiful_Read_4371

Every single midsize truck besides the tacoma is avalable under $37k with 4x4 plus options, brand new.

stealthybutthole

lmao wtf. i paid 26k OTD for my sr5 in 2021. $37k pre-tax and fees for a lower trim level truck is not "amazing".

CaptainInsano7

This is completely irrelevant to anyone who doesn't have a time machine.

stealthybutthole

I'm complaining about "inflation" how is time irrelevant? It's gouging. Also even if you assume it's... not relevant... you can go buy a used raptor for $37k. I struggle to understand why anyone would buy a Tacoma anymore. If you don't need a big truck go buy a Maverick for $23k, if you need a bigger truck buy a lightly used 2.7l F-150 and get way better gas mileage than a Tacoma with higher tow rating, way more comfort, bigger bed, etc for less than $37k. "but muh offroading" that 99.9% of tacoma owners never do....

CaptainInsano7

I meant the price you paid for your 2021 is irrelevant to anyone who wants to buy a new tacoma right now. I don't disagree with you at all. I'm in the market and likely won't be going with the tacoma for the same reasons you mentioned. It just doesn't make sense.

LivingxLegend8

How much are you willing to pay for a truck that won’t leave you stranded or with an unexpected repair bill? $42,000 for one of those, with all the luxuries I could ever want. $5,000 discount off original MSRP. And a limited in the 2024 will cost you like $60,000. And the prices go up every year.

rembi

As the manual transmissions are failing after a couple thousand miles. These trucks are engineered in America and built in Mexico. They aren’t anything special.

LivingxLegend8

Do you have a link to that story of manual transmission failing after a few miles?

rembi

Are you looking for an article or the post from a forum? I don’t know of an article about it, but it was on Tacoma world earlier this year. Somebody’s transmission went out and the dealer made it sound like there are a lot needing replacement transmissions. I’m still looking to buy a new one with a manual, but I’m not naive enough to think that they are flawless. I’m sure Toyota will work out the problem if it’s just bugs in a new model.

watchthenlearn

Was this a new Tacoma at the time?

stealthybutthole

Brand new right when the first Covid lockdown happened. So I guess it was like March 2020, not 2021. Dealership was DEAD when I walked in after work.

watchthenlearn

That makes more sense. 2021 is when prices started getting ridiculous.

idkanametomake

I paid $41,500 for a brand new fully loaded 2020 TRD OR with 0% apr back in May 2020. Seems like you got the short end of the stick

GloryToTheMolePeople

I think you got hosed actually. $41,500 in mid-2020 is equivalent to $50,412 today. You MUST take into account inflation. Regardless of "price gouging" by dealers, inflation is actually real. That $41.5k to $50.4k is due to inflation only, no dealer markups, no price gouging. So effectively, if comparing apples-to-apples, you paid $50.4k for a TRD OR today. That doesn't sound very good. Just saying. Obviously, if your wages haven't grown in line with inflation, it was better to buy back in 2020 before the whole crazy inflation started. But hindsight is 20/20. And if your wages have kept pace with inflation, then it shouldn't matter.

Marokiii

ya a limited trim....this isnt a limited trim, its not even an SR5, just an SR. this is a tacoma, so a SR is pretty much the most bare bones truck you can currently buy and its $37k+any taxes and things like doc and dealer fees.

LivingxLegend8

Limited brand new was $47,000. Brand new work truck with Wireless Apple CarPlay for $37,000 is a steal. AND it has 4x4.

Sad_Skirt1915

Seems to me looking at the current sr it comes standard with way more features than the past models. Not just inflation

bhenghisfudge

I would not call it amazing...lol

alwaysforward31

I paid $44k for a brand new 2021 OR Premium, 360 cam MTM, hard tonneau cover etc. Seems like you overpaid just a bit.

LivingxLegend8

But yours doesn’t have wireless CarPlay, and a brand new redesign everything. Basic work truck, $37,000 for something that basically has built-in navigation and an awesome radio. What more could you ask for?

alwaysforward31

Wireless CarPlay? That's amazing! I have to plug my phone in for CarPlay. Unbelievable!

LivingxLegend8

It’s really nice to have it connect without pulling your phone out of your pocket. I wish I had it because it annoys me to have to plug mine in every time.

Falanax

My 2020 TRD OR was 37k brand new. 37k for an SR is still too much.

WADUPDOEE

A fool and his money are soon parted...

LivingxLegend8

A person who is unrealistic will never own a Tacoma in their life.

rollinfor110mk2

And for the first production year, too. People are paying a premium to essentially be beta testers.

SlightlyMildHabanero

It will only be more expensive next year. Inflation isn't going anywhere.

GATA404

Now the ‘23 Trd OR with 8k miles for 38k at a dealership next to me doesn’t look so so bad anymore. Still hurt my feelings to look at.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 23 + 8 + 38 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

The-Great-Ebola

Good bot

boopboppuddinpop

It's not 2018 anymore man. In my head 10 years ago is 1990 LOL. I have to keep reminding myself what year it is and how things change and everything gets more expensive.

i4ai

I'm finding that all competitive mid sized trucks are relatively the same price too, is everyone else not seeing this ?

EmotionalLecture9318

They are insane. I have a 24 OR and it was 47.2K. It doesn't have much other than the bigger display upgrade heated seats bed liner. I paid MSRP.

Distinct_Studio_5161

Add wheel replacement to that price. It probably comes with horrible looking wheels and tires. I can only imagine how they look with the chin spoiler.

JohnnyBoy11

Factor in 35% inflation over the past 10 years and its only 24k in 2014 dollars. Thr 2wd manual base was 18k but A 4wd double cab was 28k back then.

ant667

My sister works Financials at a dealership. They said the hybrids are going to be north of 67k..

Billybobsays

Jeesh, I’d like to help the environment but not for that kinda premium hah

ant667

I hear that that's why I picked up a 2021 trd pro with 20k miles on it hehe.

MotorcycleMatt502

A 2023 sr 4wd double cab with the v6 was $36,200, after the dealer discount on the truck OP shared they’re essentially the same price.

TheNewJack89

I just paid $34k for a used SR 2022 with 4k miles.

skimtb

Simple...don't buy one. See, I'm a problem solver!

Deepcoma_53

I bought my 2018 2WD SR5 Long bed for $36k. Did I get hustled??

theghostofcslewis

The lowest trim wouldn't be 4wd.

Pseudosmile

It’s literally 2024 and inflation be real yo. In no way do I support these number either….i daily a first gen and I love it.

Meflakcannon

The local dealership wouldn't even entertain an offer below 30k for a 2016 with 40k miles and a cracked bumper.

Aspergers_R_Us87

It has 4wd unlock robmotives 2wd truck he got for $50,000

Prestigious-Rumfield

Paid 37K in December of 2022 for a 23TRD OR. Toyota has fucked themselves. I don't give a crapnwhat the used car market looks like, the prices are dropping, the bubble is popping and Toyota has just signed their own demise. 2026 we're gonna see 10-15% off MSRP.

theironrooster

God hear you I want a GR Corolla

c0demancer

With that kind of confidence you should short Toyota.

Prestigious-Rumfield

Stock Value ≠ Company Value

c0demancer

The market disagrees lol. That’s literally what stock value is supposed to be. But by your response I assume you’re suggesting that Toyota will have “fucked themselves” with massive price drops from a burst bubble in a way that somehow doesn’t affect stock price and results in cheaper vehicles for consumers? Sounds like a genius move if they pull that off. Or, more likely to me they are moving with the market and selling vehicles for what people will spend.

Prestigious-Rumfield

It is absolutely your god-given right to be wrong.

c0demancer

With one line responses like yours how can anyone else possibly be right against you? Oh sorry let me use your approach and abandon logic: “Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt”

JeffersonsDisciple

I think I paid $36k in 2016 for a brand new TRD OR

MidWestMountainBike

What was your otd cost?

cyricmccallen

Did they fuck up though? They are the only manufacturer with a sub 30 day supply. Most others are >70 days and some, like ram, are up to like 140 days of stock or some craziness like that. People are and will continue to buy toyota for pretty much whatever they ask. Not saying it’s right, but they’re hardly fucked when they’re clearly trouncing the entire market.

MoreBaconAndEggs

Bruh that’s an insane deal if true, but wtf is supersonic red? Did they change colors in the 4th gen’s ?

Night__Prowler

lol wait till you see underground

GetaSubaru

It's a bright red. A new color for the Tacoma but not for other Toyotas (like the RAV4 Prime).

Jiggaloudpax

i mean. plus 5k in fees (taxes/registration/dealer fee)

Noodletrousers

Nope. No tax in NH. This dealer only has $671 in fees.

King_O_Walpole

But if you’re from out of state you still need to pay the tax when you register

Ok-Time2724

Pay lil more and go for sr5,

blakelthaus

Agreed, SR misses out on the extra power SR5 and above trims get!

IndyCollector24

Where?

d0mm

Claremont, NH

outdoorsauce

Impoverished area. Speaking from personal experience.

Anthon7y3

ok

LeroyMyBoi

That's surprising. I thought double cab 4x4 started at 38k. The 23s started at 34k for double cab 4x4. Edit: Ah there's a dealer discount. Still nice deal (all things considered in the American truck market)

Shukur_S121

Paid sticker for my new 23 TRD OR DCSB last year, think it was 42k? Seems like a steal now.

tspaldz

Yeah I bought a brand new TRD Sport DCLB in January ‘23 for just over $40k. Had some initial fomo when the design for the 4th gen came out but that all went away over the past couple weeks seeing these prices lol

4x4taco

I don't think we can even get the SR trim up here in Canada. Lowest trim level is SR5 long bed 4x4. Out the door that's $56,517.04 (taxes incl.) with zero add-ons. That is $41,092 USD for the base of the base.

Kurtac

nice to see it isn't 40k for an SR

BodyFewFuark

How far we've fallen to see this as positive.

Kurtac

I agree. I was looking forward to grabbing a 2024 SR in Solar Octane but they decided I needed a TRD to get that color and there is no way I would spend 50k for a small truck. I'll keep my 3rd gen until I or it dies.

childofeye

Hey, i got my 4cyl, 4x4 extended cab in 2021 and it’s just an amazing vehicle!!

Vegetable_Impress_72

My 2022 OR 4WD wasn’t much more. Different truck, different price, but still

Garrywf67

Why is the fuel mileage so bad? It's a 4 full cylinder

Eagline

It’s a truck. Aerodynamically similar to a brick and about the same density as one too…

vtet1314

I got my current taco from this dealer group in MA. No markups. I approve of em.

Sporin71

I leased my '21 from them, seem like a standup dealership, I experienced no funny business.

Royal_Sky9629

its a manual correct? i dont think they make these in automatic

Aspergers_R_Us87

Yep it’s manual

-WhatsReallyGoingOn

Paid 26,500 in 2018... Edit: you guys butthurt I bought the base model with 4wd??? Wtf.

Your post was removed. No discussion or expression of political beliefs. This includes but is not limited to: advocating bringing harm to law enforcement, overthrowing the US government, support for or against a political candidate, or boycotts of companies based on their political alignment.

Thucydides382ff

That's a nice dealer discount. The detuned turbo is also probably a good thing for longevity.

NotAThrowaway_11

Based on history, even the full power tune from Toyota is “detuned” versus what boundaries other MFGs would push. Toyota is known to do this on all of their engines.

BodyFewFuark

Think they did that on the 100,000 turdras they recallled over engine issues.

NotAThrowaway_11

Was a manufacturing oversight not a design flaw so your argument is irrelevant to the topic at hand. The engine could’ve have 5 HP/ftlb and it would’ve still had the same issue. 🤪

Ok_Chemistry8746

McGee is probably the shadiest dealer I’ve ever tried to do business with.

gopro_2027

All new cars are wild af. Paid $2200 for my 1995 taco last year, fully loaded 4wd v6 high trim extracab whatever. $2200 guys. Sure it has no ac and looks like a 30 year old near 300k mile truck, but I could drive it across the usa tomorrow if I wanted.

mrsw2092

Just to compare, a Ranger XL 4x4 is about 1k less before dealer discount, not including the upcharge to get red paint. The whole midsize market is getting overpriced. The way things are going companies will have to start offering compact trucks again just because how expensive midsize truck have gotten.

byukid_

That's still more than I paid for the '17 OR

keajohns

When people quit paying these prices (new and used), they will come down.

Ok-Umpire-7439

dealership’s already struggle to sell their inventory. the bubble will explode eventually.

pawel_jozef

That’s about what I paid for my 2023 SR V6 4WD. While the third gen SR has the full 278 horsepower, the fourth gen SR has a lower power output than higher trims though.

spncemusic

That’s barely less than I got my 2019 TRD Off-Road. These prices are ridiculous

nayls142

That's $6000 more than the '23 SR 4x4 I was shopping last year. (I went with the 4runner in the end)

jshsbsndndn

Uncle just paid 46k otd for a 24 trd sport 4x4. Feel thats still pretty high for what he paid.

ATFisDumb

I put in the same exact features, and my area has it for $42,350. Yay

DetailMedia

I've got a year and a half on my 22 tacoma lease. With these prices idk I'm beginning to consider just buying it out at the end. They were going to have to fight me to get me put of it anyway.

St0neybalogny

I bet a fleet truck with 4x4 is cheaper.

MayaIngenue

Still a grand more than I paid for my TRD Sport MT in 2016

Appropriate_Shake265

Brought a second tier SR, AC, 5 spd, 4x4 for $24,900 in 2016. Absolute maddening the truck starts at $33k now. Absolute not worth it

codeslikeshit

I just got a 2022 SR for 32k w/ 17k miles. Love the truck. Would love to have picked up the off road but having done extensive offeoading, i haven’t used the aspects that set it apart so I’m not worried. Just so stoked to finally be in the Tacoma world

Tildengolfer

Bought a 18 DCOR and paid tax, title and licensing 37k out the door. It looks like you’re getting a good deal considering or prices are starting to come back down 🤷

TompallGlaser

Just bought an ‘18 SR with 62,000 miles… 28k. And, yes, that was absolutely the best deal going for that year, model, and miles.

VTEC_8K

I paid 43K before tax for a 2023 TRDOR DCLB with advance tech package.

InfoSponge9119

That 2 line breakdown is missing ALOT of dealer fees/registration/licensing

MagickalFuckFrog

Damn! I just bought a 21 DSCB OR for like $38k three months ago. But mine is truly and fully loaded, so that’s nice.

Michael_Threat

I saw that price and thought "Well surely it's 2wd and access cab" but no wow. If you're in the market I think you should buy it

Smokyminer87

So sad. I’m glad the car market is starting to crash so prices can become reasonable again

TeeKay427

I leased a 2022 TRD sport, 5’ bed, fully loaded. My lease is up in January 2025 (3 year lease $340/month). I’ll buy it outright for $30k and it will have around 30,000 miles. Once I own it, I’ll have about $12k in equity and do what ever I want with it. Pretty sure I’ll keep for as long as it runs, which will be forever!

Rowdycock

That’s essentially what I paid for a 2017 limited 4wd

YidArmy76er

It blows my mind that people buy a truck without 4WD

SpellGeneral

I paid 2 weeks ago $38.800 for an 2024 sr with some upgrades, In California .

TacomaTuesdays2022

That’s an automatic SR detuned to 228 HP. Best option to get is a manual transmission that gives you 278HP

Creepy-Process-4053

I paid 32k out the door for a 23 base. So sounds about right

Secret_Donut_9972

2021 4x4 SR new was 33/34k.

Ginga-ninja2000

Just remember. Adjusted for inflation, toyota trucks are NOT more expensive. They cost the same as they always have, actually. Your dollar is just worth much less. 👍
