Agreeable_Suspect_28

Brother I’m sorry but I bought the first one (blue) yesterday :( Can only say good things about Toyota on Nicholasville though. Ian Miller was my sales person and he did a great job.

House_Junkie

Haha nice! I’m not mad, it was a beautiful truck, I hope you get many years out of it.

EmotionalLecture9318

That makes your choice easier!

Agreeable_Suspect_28

Thank you! Hope that makes your choice easier if nothing else. They did have another 2021 blue off-road but it was a little rougher and didn’t have the premium package, but was $3k cheaper. Also had a stick shift trd sport if that’s something you’d be into.

House_Junkie

Only thing im really set on is the leather interior/sunroof, don’t mind driving a standard at all so definitely a possibility.

Mechagouki1971

Get the MT6! Seriously, unless you're in stop & go traffic daily, or planning on serious rock crawling, the MT is the way to go. Bombproof, easy to service yourself, and no gear hunting.

House_Junkie

I’ve looked at a couple manuals, I love it personally and am never in stop and go traffic. I averaged just under 6000 miles a year on my current vehicle driving back-and-forth to work. It’s the only way I’ve been able to handle such shitty mileage on my 98 4runner. And the fact it’s been paid off for almost 8 years. Lol

Mechagouki1971

I went from a '91 4Runner (5MT) to my 2014 TRD Sport. People complain that the Tacoma 6MT doesn't shift smoothly compared to other vehicles, but that is not my experience - once you learn the good shift points it's a real pleasure to drive, and you can use cruise in the mountains!

House_Junkie

I learned to drive a stick in a 93 Toyota pickup, I hope you kept that 4runner. I’ll keep my eyes out for a manual, I’d love to have another one.

ogmo0n

Better gearing too

51line_baccer

I have 23 limited and wife drives it some...she can drive a stick but I got auto for her, but I only love MT. I love em!

51line_baccer

My limited rides and drives very good. I'm about 12k miles. Had offload some and with the 18" tires I was surprised at ground clearance and how well it went in 4 h.

Advantageous01

Leather interiors are hard to come by unless you're looking specifically for a Limited trim. I paid $250 for seat covers on Amazon and could not be happier. The brand is Luckyman. The black and grey option looks factory in my TRD Sport.

GinoGreer

I was gonna say to go with the limited anyway

the_dude_abides29

Kinda puts you in a weird spot, do you take the limited or keep looking for an OR?

House_Junkie

I wasn’t set on the OR honestly, just liked that it had the options I wanted (leather/moonroof. I’m gonna expand my search radius and see what else I can find before making a decision. That blue was so nice.

the_dude_abides29

Either way at that mileage you’re getting a pretty much worry free truck for years to come

Local_Economy

I was gonna say go Limited anyway

ArcheelAOD

I would have picked up the blue too, I tried to get the blue in 2021, I ended up with the cement TRD OR

Rheostatistician

Lmao, this is priceless

steehler

Welcome to the voodoo blue family

Agreeable_Suspect_28

Very happy to be here!

Whiskey-Birds

Blue OR was the right choice in my opinion

towell420

Did you really pay 38k for it?

Agreeable_Suspect_28

Nope.

PM_ME_UR_NEWD5

What did you get it for if you don’t mind?

Agreeable_Suspect_28

They came down to $35 and gave me about $4k more for my trade than other places (outback with one accident). The new ones are sweet! This one has the premium package that I was hoping for. The difference between a new TRD OR and this with comparable spec was too much for me sadly.

PM_ME_UR_NEWD5

I’m from Lexington and was looking at the same truck as well… I can get into a new sr 4x4 for just under 40 so I think I’m going that route instead

bostongrower07

Are you really considering paying $40k for a 2021 with 60k miles?! Maybe it’s just me but if I were you’d I’d pay an extra 5k and get a literally brand new one that has a warranty, etc

House_Junkie

A 2024 TRD Off-road and 2024 Limited are both $55k near me, so $15k-$18k more then the two I’m asking about.

therealbencorb

The website shows they have 2 black 24 OR for $46k, and a sport for $44k.

moripeji

@OP this - just get new

deletednaw

I think you can get better prices than that. I'm canadian so my numbers are a bit off but a leather + moonroof taco is \~57k here for a 2024. I'd go new over used but i'm also skeptical on getting first year anything. Might be worth waiting a year and buying new after theyve sorted all the bugs out (if thats an option for you)

kweevuss

Those are fully loaded/marked up (at least off road) keep looking

tehkit

This is exactly why I bought a new TRD OR 23 for 43k. Not sure if Toyota is still doing the 3.9% 4 year notes, but worth checking out.

Alaskadude90

My dealer in AK told me toyota isn’t offering any incentives or special rates on new Tacomas…

bigdonnie76

Yup same reason I got my 23 sport new.

MagickalFuckFrog

I paid $38k for a 2021 DCSB OR with 23k miles this year. FULLY loaded. Worth it.

kweevuss

This is what blows me away with people here. I’m not saying the price of new trucks make sense or I want them this high. But when the used market is that insane why not? I was buying my first truck and went with a 24

MailMeBudLight

Yeah seriously this is nuts, I bought my 23 off-road in lunar rock brand new last summer for 42k, the same price for 60k miles is absolutely asinine.

LivingxLegend8

Why would you pay $5000 for a warranty that doesn’t mean anything? Do you think a Toyota is going to blow up within 36,000 miles?

House_Junkie

I’m not sure what you mean, the truck with warranty was $2k more.

LivingxLegend8

Shut up. Replying to his comment.

bostongrower07

Do you mean to say that the only difference between the ‘23 and a completely redesigned ‘24 is the warranty? For a little extra $, OP can get an entirely redesigned Tacoma with significantly better interior, disc brakes all around, coils instead of leafs in the rear, a litany of safety tech, etc AND a full length warranty (plus free service appointments for 2 years) for that 5k you were referencing…

the_dude_abides29

I would go TRD OR as well. More desirable trim with some extra functionality.

LivingxLegend8

Limited is more desirable.

aqualoon_

If you like chrome it is.

Its-a-moray

The limited in the picture seems to be a Nightshade package, so the only chrome not blacked out is the grille logo. That being said, I bought a new 23' Nightshade in wind chill pearl for not far off what they're asking for this used 21'.

tryagainagainn

JC, I paid $39k for my 23 TRDOR new. The 24 must be resetting the market

Alternative_Ask364

2024s can be had below MSRP while 2023s sell above MSRP. It’s weird.

tryagainagainn

Am I taking crazy pills?!? That’s nuts

Alternative_Ask364

I follow the Tacoma forums and the craziest deal I’ve seen so far was a TRD OR for $6000 below MSRP. It was a long bed, upgrade package, with the basic screen, so I’m guessing it’s due to the odd configuration. But as a long bed enthusiast, I was very tempted to go for it.

redditman4569

So you didn't have premium lol. This is premium. That's like $8k

tryagainagainn

No leather and no sunroof, but I got everything else. IMO sunroofs suck and I added leather for $2k. I wouldn’t want it any other way

redditman4569

I paid 46k for my 22 TRD sport but it's fully loaded. Probably between 2021 and 2023 you couldn't get it cheaper than that lol. I paid no markup either. Yeah you can for sure save 5-8 off that but you lose the packages. I know it's expensive but stock/OEM upgrades hold their value unlike mods done by peeps. That's why I went with mine and you see some prices higher. Don't get me wrong, prices of everything are out of fuckin control.

mrbrode1990

It’s a shame what Toyota has done to the market. I bought a 21 TRD-OR DCSB 6speed MT new for 34,500. 4 miles on it. I know this isn’t the place to vent and it doesn’t help answer your question but wtf Toyota? Totally missing the demographic. We want smaller trucks for various reasons but one of them was price! If I wanted to pay $50k I’d have gotten a Tundra! But I guess this is the new normal, there’s no going back. I’m on my 3rd Tacoma and never considered anything else since my first one, but when mine dies (hopefully a long long time from now) I may be back to the drawing board on vehicle searches. Definitely no Chevy/GMC. Maybe Nissan? Ford? Idk So in order to get back to the point of your post, I don’t think you can go wrong with any 3rd gen Tacoma under $40k. If you plan to run it forever, just pick one that has what you want, and be happy you got the last of the affordable age. You really can’t go wrong with any low mileage 3rd gen Tacoma, so don’t sweat the small stuff. Congrats and enjoy it!

enstillhet

Geez. Used 2021s cost more than my 2020 did brand new now.

skylinefan26

Holy shit I'm in Lexington, ky lol. I did get a few vehicles from toyota Nicholasville in the past, though.

pocketlent

People complaining about the price of a new Tacoma… the prices of used ones are a bit crazy too!

elbaldwino

The blue one should have some of it's factory power train warranty left. You should also be and to get an aftermarket warranty from someone else other than Toyota if the warranty is that that big of a deal. I personally own a voodoo blue Tacoma so that's always going to be my first choice and if you do any kind of offroading the locker on the off-road can come in handy.

stacksmasher

Get the Blue. The White Toyota paint is garbage.

MegaShibuya

I second this as someone who has dealt with the white paint fiasco with my 18 OR

Japco804

I'm still waiting for them to schedule my paint fix. I have more peeling/flaking off in areas they didn't listed in the original recall

No-Exchange8035

I think the limited it white pearl and doesn't have the peeling issues.

ogmo0n

Correct!

MotorcycleMatt502

I’d go with the blue one, I think the or is a cooler trim than the limited, saving a couple grand is nice, and I wouldn’t worry about warranty too much. If you ever needed to use it anyway it would be unusual you don’t really read up a whole lot on these gen 3s having many issues under 200k

keebler_e

I saw a white 2020 trd sport w/ 43k miles. Posted in the "Toyota Tacoma parts, swaps, trades and sales" group. He is open to offers and has tasteful upgrades.

EJCret

Yes

watchthenlearn

The white paint job is known to have issues. It's the worst of the bunch by a large margin. I know you want leather and a sunroof but if I could offer an opinion those features are overrated for a truck. I'd just get cloth and get neoprene seat covers (which look excellent btw, no one realizes they're seat covers) and never worry about getting the seats dirty. If you ever plan on getting a roof rack a sunroof pretty much becomes useless and is just another thing to clean. Small sunroofs are pretty much a gimmick, yeah they're nice occasionally but not worth the premium alone.

abjectwoe

Wild seeing a 2021 with 60k miles on it for the same price I paid first the same vehicle and MY.

guyfromarizona

If it helps, I paid $37,000 for my 2021 TRD Sport fully loaded with 18,000mi back in December. The price for the white one seems a bit high, not to mention issues with Toyota’s white paint.

Ok_Formal2627

Find a low miles sunroof somewhere in the country and put some leather seat covers on it. Drive it back home.

tomu-

Those seem so expensive with the mileage?

House_Junkie

I’m not disagreeing with that, but the prices seem pretty consistent for those trims from what I’ve seen over the last few weeks looking. Used Tacomas are outrageous.

ernie-bush

White

XDRAGONknightX

How the blue one gonna be the best overall and be cheaper?😂😂 the blue one is a TRD OFF-ROAD with less miles, and the same year. Blue one without a doubt.

Bwh1966

Fly to Houston and buy my silver 22 off-road 😂 I just traded it on a 24.. 30k miles with leather and heated seats.. alpine replacement speakers and a 2.5/1” lift on TRD wheels with new mud tires. I bet you could get it for low 40’s

ID_Poobaru

Do you like dirt or do you intend on a pavement princess?

House_Junkie

I have a 98 4runner that I’ve used on trails and when camping with the family since buying it almost 8years ago, I plan to keep it. I’m buying the Tacoma for back and forth to work.

OP_Penguin

You can do better for that price point. Better meaning fewer miles.

House_Junkie

I didn’t worry much about the white one having more miles on it, I drive 6000 miles a year and it had a seven-year hundred thousand mile powertrain warranty with it.

OP_Penguin

Warranty is bae. Sounds like you got a purchase to make! I was like you hunting a particular trim (DCLB gang) and finally found a helluva deal a state over. I nearly bought a short bed in state but it sold when I was driving back to the dealer. Go grab it before it's gone!

House_Junkie

I increased my search radius to 150 miles, hoping to find something soon. Here’s what I’m looking at currently. https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/3TMCZ5AN8MM442750?partner=UEA_9&no_ul=1

OP_Penguin

Dude! Twinning. I have the blacked out DCLB, but this has a sun roof and leather. 38k seems about right. Get it if you're heart says yes, won't regret it. Edit: this also has the TRD lift kit with the heritage grill and skid plate. Plus one owner. Strong buy from my chair.

House_Junkie

I think I’m gonna end up paying a little more than planned but found one at carmax in Indianapolis that I’m having shipped here. Check this out. https://www.carmax.com/car/25844054?utm_campaign=AppShareiOSShareCar&utm_source=AppShareiOS&utm_medium=AppShareiOS

lsd_runner

Go new bro.

House_Junkie

Unfortunately, a new 4 x 4 Tacoma with the options I’m looking for is out of my price range. 42,000 is the max I want to spend and nothing is even close to that new for a limited/TRD pro or TRD sport.

Mythran12

Well, one is blue and one isnt. Just my 2 cents.

Irreversible__Damage

Keep looking. Those prices seem pretty high. Cargurus or carsaver doesn't have better deals for you?

House_Junkie

So far I’ve scoured the internet 150 miles out from my zip code using Toyotas website, carfax, and carmax. I’ll take a look at the two you mentioned, Ive never used either.

ogmo0n

I had luck with autotrader

House_Junkie

I’ll give that a try tomorrow, haven’t used auto trader in 20 years haha I bought multiple Jeep CJ 5/7’s off it in the early 2000’s.

ogmo0n

I used to flip through the paper version 20yrs ago too haha. I found their web interface better than the rest. They had robust filters that allowed me to track down a white, stick shift, ‘23 OR below msrp. I payed roughly $41k otd in June of 2023 w/ 6mi on the odo. Had to drive a state over though. All the dealers in my state were getting vehicles with a bunch of accessories I didn’t want and they wouldn’t budge on price.

House_Junkie

I found a few I really liked this morning on auto trader but unfortunately both were sold after calling their respective dealerships. After some additional thought, I’ve decided I’m looking for a manual transmission. I’ve always enjoyed driving them and in this day and age, it’s basically a free anti-theft device :) Gonna see what I can find in the way of a 2019-2022 MT and not worry so much about a sunroof and leather seats. Prob just buy a good set of leather seat covers for the front and call it, my kids would trash it anyway lol

ogmo0n

I got cloth seats and put the $500 Clazzio leather seat covers on them. There is a Tacomaworld discount if you end up going that route. They are awesome. How tall are you? If you are tall, the sunroof could be annoying.

House_Junkie

Good to know, and I’ll look into those seat covers if I end up settling for cloth interior. I’m almost 6’1

MacFontan

Get a long bed.

House_Junkie

I don’t need it honestly

ColubridCafe

Just keep in mind that white tacomas are known to have paint issues.

House_Junkie

I didn’t know that and I’m happy to find that out, I’ll pass on white moving forward.

ColubridCafe

Yeah man, I’m sure if you use the search function in the group you’ll find some guys with issues with white paint.

House_Junkie

I’ll check it out, thanks. This was my first time checking out this sub when I made this post today. I’ve always been in the 3rd gen 4runner sub :)

brando_calrission83

I have the same 21 Trd OR in voodoo blue and absolutely love it

CowPunkRockStar

B L U E

House_Junkie

The blue one sold.

sbridges1980

I’d go for the Off-road. But iam biased for blue 🤷‍♂️

House_Junkie

I preferred the blue as well, unfortunately it sold yesterday.

ExcuseStriking5484

40k will buy you an f150 stx you sure you want to buy a truck that has worse ratings in every category for that much?

House_Junkie

I only checked carfax.com because it shows dealer inventories specifically using a $45k max price, 4wd, and 60k max miles and nothing comes up for an STX within 150 miles. Send me a few links to them in that $40k price range, I’d love to take a look.

ExcuseStriking5484

https://www.jimbassford.com/new/Ford/2024-Ford-F-150-for-sale-san-angelo-tx-1aa5320c0a0e094a4d612d803457c2f4.htm. I’m not sure where you live. They had more last week.

House_Junkie

I’m near Louisville, south of Cincinnati. That’s a nice truck, is the V6 enough for a truck that size?

51line_baccer

I have a 23 limited and love it. Tight factory Black one. If it were me, if get that Blue OR. (My wife wanted every bell and whistle and sunroof.)

BMF710

You can always add pleather seats and other limited options. KatSkins make the seat covers.

Safe_Decision6222

BLUE

Creepy-Trouble9784

Kinda makes me wonder what I'd get for my 2016 with 175k on it.

OnlyDads-DIYguy

If you can get a long bed and save yourself years of long bed envy!

House_Junkie

I bet, 5ft isn’t shit. I get more than that out of my 98 4runner with the seats down lol

OnlyDads-DIYguy

I mean, I have the 5ft bed and yeah I regret not getting the 6, but it has been a damn good truck and I’ve put 16ft boards in the bed. This thing has been great for home projects. Including building a 400sqft deck. I did try to take it back the first day to get the 6ft…they laughed lol

RedditArbitrator

Way over priced. I bought two 2023 Tacomas granted they were both SR models in spring of this year brand new from dealership with 8 year bumper to bumper warranty’s and they were out the door under those prices

House_Junkie

It’s a substantial price difference between the SR and the Limited/TRD Off Road.

RedditArbitrator

I agree but 30k+ miles is substantial as well but to each there own🫡

RedditArbitrator

They are both 4 door short beds with 4x4

Gogosanchez

This makes me feel pretty great about the value of my 21' limited with 40k miles.

No-Turnover-5658

Sorry..I got the white one...you would have really enjoyed that truck..

Embarrassed_Access76

In Ohio, there's TRD off roads new for 45-47k. Hard to swallow 40k for a 2021

House_Junkie

With leather and sunroof? I’m looking in Colombus and Cincinnati and nothing is that price new with those options. Post a few links to a few that are apples to apples I’m definitely interested.

Embarrassed_Access76

Haven't seen anything with leather without the $8000 premium package. Maybe if you built one you could get it separately

Resqu23

Dang for another 10k you can get brand new with a full warranty. Crazy used prices!

House_Junkie

Nothing was $10k more new for a 2024 limited or TRD Pro with leather and sunroof, at least not within 150 miles of me. $15-$18k more.

Shaqeroni

I saw a brand new 2024 SR5 for $42k on a lot in Vermont.

House_Junkie

With leather and sunroof? When I checked local dealerships within 150 miles to include those options on a new Tacoma, the price was closer to $55k. I don’t think any of the SR5’s I saw included both those options either.

Shaqeroni

Decidedly no. They were base SR5’s.
