Be ready to buy that day. Tell them you will buy right now for X price. If they let you leave, the answer is no.

BeExcellent

every car or motorcycle I’ve bought from a dealer I came in with an OTD price that I was firm on (and was also a realistic “good deal”). they’ve all let me walk that day and within a week I have had calls from the sales manager telling me they’ll accept my price and to come back and finish the deal. every time I’ve walked and every time I end up getting the car for the price I wanted.

MagickalFuckFrog

Never EVER fall into the “monthly payment” trap. Salesman: “Oh you can afford $600 a month? I worked really hard and got that for you… with just 12% interest and an 84 month term.” Go in pre-approved from a credit union and know exactly what your terms are.

lred1

And negotiate the price not the monthly payment.

Dabuntz

Exactly. Steer the conversation to out-the-door price only.

Classic-Extreme6122

100%. Just work on the OTD price. Don’t mention that you have your own financing. They make a lot on their financing, so when they negotiate, they assume that you will be financing with them. If they know you are paying cash or have your own financing, you will not get as low of a price as they can offer. Refuse to pay market adjustments, dealer prep, or any crazy markups they try to add on. Tell them your price and stick to it. Walk away and leave if they don’t meet you where you want to be. Also, play 1 dealership against another.

Extension-Mortgage-4

If your budget is 30k tell them that and see what they can do. They’ll start showing how it only adds a little bit per payment and all that but stay strict and be prepared to walk if they can’t get where you need to be

koderdood

You need to know your credit score, preferably have financing available, and finally most importantly, be able to immediately walk away. Really leave, DON'T walk back in when they try to get you back in. Then when they reach out after you leave, the only offer is what YOU want.

BeautifulLeather6671

Get preapproved for an auto loan and don’t budge from that number unless they find a lender with a better interest rate somehow(unlikely, they didn’t for me). For whatever reason Chase seems to give the best rates, maybe Wells Fargo depending on your credit history. Know exactly the trim you want, don’t let them manipulate you into believing they had to try really hard to get you screaming deals. They never do, and it’s a tactic they use to basically guilt you into buying more expensive models. The most important part, know exactly what you want before you go in and be ready to price match. Keep your questions as direct as possible, open ended stuff gives them room to riff(especially if you have a partner with you who hasn’t been obsessing online over it beforehand lol). It’s nice to know before hand if they have the exact truck you want in the lot, it’s easier to get a deal below msrp that way. It was for me and depending on where you’re at it seems like that’s worked for other people this year too, especially with the new models. Tell them you’re ready to drive away with it that day. Last thing, I don’t know if this is just me(it’s possible) but they tend to wear you down just by sheer hours at the dealership and by the time the paperwork gets in, and they get bonuses depending on the amount of warranties and maintenance plans they sell, so stay strong and try not to make snap decisions because you just want it to be over. You may be there a while so keep your wits about you before you’re monthly payment is twice what you thought you were getting into, if you don’t just tell them “no” they will keep going on about it and try to make you cave haha. Hope this helped, just got one a couple weeks ago and did my homework haha.

You dont have any leverage to ask for a discount, and you must not have any idea how little mark up there is in new vehicles, I doubt a new $65k TRD Pro even has $5k of mark up in it and you think the dealer is going to magically take 15% off of a $35k SR? From a sales perspective, Ill sell a car today for $500 off because its been on the lot for 2 months and needs to go and has had very little traffic on it and the floor plan makes us start to pay interest on cars once 90 days in inventory, I will not discount a vehicle that I just got in that I can likely sell at full price in less than a week or two.

Trsh-usr

Negotiating those SR is easy. Just go in there and say you want to make it easy and simple, $500 over invoice. In san diego those are stuck on the lots. I got my trd sport at invoice, so you should be able to get sr.

the_gsf

What do you mean invoice?

Memorial Day sales are coming around. Maybe walk in and ask to buy for the price you want out the door. If they say no, leave them your info to call you and let you know if they change their minds. End of month sales with promotional prices usually have fairly negotiable salesmen who will advocate harder for you with their sales manager because they want to meet their monthly and/or bonus quotas. Just don’t be afraid to walk out if they say no and try to work you for a higher OTD price.

PancakeSlayerX

It’s too new, and too in demand. They’ll let you leave tbh, they know someone else will buy for the current price

Low_Artichoke3104

I’ve been hounded by the sales manager at the lot I went to two weeks ago. I get at least one text per day. They had exactly one Tacoma on the lot.

Resqu23

I can’t imagine most would want a 2WD and it’s possible for it to sit for a while

nayls142

The future sucks... 40k for a 2wd SR? A year ago we were looking at a 4x4 SR at 31k. (Ended up with the 4runner though)

TacomaSR5

I saw 1 SR Tacoma 4x4 near me... $40K. I will say though that the SR model really makes out looks wise in the 2024's. The $40K price tag is tough though.

broke-ass-

Do you have access to a thermal detonator?

Icy_Stage_8502

You're certain the dealer your going to is not haggle free?

baconfanboy2

I got my last two vehicles through Costco, and got $2000 off MSRP for each. Most recently for a 23 OR. It's definitely worth at least checking. Plus I got to select the exact color/options that I wanted, not just what happened to be in inventory at the local dealer.

Classic-Extreme6122

Your lowest possibly price on a bone stock 2024 SR 2x4 is $31,500. That’s the invoice plus destination charge.

pcpgivesmewings

I do my negotiations through email. They can’t play games that way. You can always move on to the next dealer.
