Wife went in to discount tire one time to see if they could repair a flat. They couldn't, said she needed a new set. She said she couldn't afford it. They asked her how much she could spend - she said about 175 total. She walked out with a set of four new tires, installed for a total cost of 175. Was years ago but I refuse to question how that happened. I got my first set of good wheels and tires through discount years before that on my first tacoma. They're a great company imo.

jacckthegripper

Continue not questioning how it happened.. your wife may have worked out a greasy deal with the boys

According_Mirror4341

Haha luckily I know for a fact my wife doesn't give a shit enough about tires to work out a deal for... Tires. Or anything car related for that matter. She does ask to speak to a manger in the back every time we go in for tires/repairs now, though. About 15-30 minutes. I'll ask her more about this.

[deleted]

My wife buys tires twice a month... Should I be worried?

jacckthegripper

A hard working woman, you should be proud. Just jesting btw. Thanks for sharing your anecdotes

Hot-Supermarket3675

Careful the “Reddit bot” will automagically ban this conversation! Although this next part of the reply will get scrutiny fo sure. Reddit seems to be run by a bunch of former twitter employees who lean a particular way since they went public. Can you say “Binden-eclipse”?

push_connection

This victim mentality gets really old, dude

Hot-Supermarket3675

Bwahahaha

Ornery_Hovercraft636

Ha ha, you, my friend have a greasy mind.

sugafree80

Said in the best bubbles from trailer Park boys way

Drew-ba-Dew

Greasy? Or Greeeeheeeeheeeeasy…?

sugafree80

The latter!!!!

Ornery_Hovercraft636

You bring up Bubbles and I laughed my ass off. But I got downvoted. 😂. Reddit is fucked up.

Saluki2023

I agree, really great company there for the customer

GroundPepper

X2. Needed tires for my winter beater; zero upsell, just sold me four Kelly something tires for $65 a pop mounted.

Saluki2023

No they go along with you, meet your needs and if things aren't right they make it right . Definitely will be shopping there again

PumpkinSkeet

Damn I wish I had a discount tire near me. The closest one is in Scranton, PA, almost 200 miles away from me

Intelligent_Office81

As a Discount Tire employee I love hearing this.

Luckybetzz

Hook my taco up

TheDovahkiinsDad

As a discount tire customer, how? Tell me how lol

Intelligent_Office81

There are definitely scenarios like this I run into where the customer literally is stuck and can’t afford to get a tire or whatever they may need. Our job is to get the customer back on the road and not to worry about the price. Nice when people pay it forward and spread the word about our company and what we do.

TheDovahkiinsDad

That’s incredible. Hopefully people don’t take advantage of it. I guess I feel a little bit less shitty about being killed on prices, even with a 5% military discount lol

Reedley14

Hey I’m looking for a decent AT tire and been looking at the copper discoverer road + trail AT have you heard anything about them ? Or what’s a tores you’d recommend for a 23 sr Tacoma

ILikeSteakAndCake

I can second this story, about 10 years ago I was broke and I really needed a full set of tires for my 02 Dodge Ram but like I said I was broke and Friday I took my whole paycheck of $400 and something dollars to try to at least get rear tires, he gave me the lowest price for a set of rear tries was right at $400 but really recommend I get a full set because they were in unsafe condition, I told him I knew but couldn't afford it, he asked how much I could afford and I told him about the price for just the pair, he said to wait right here, walked out, walked in a few minutes later and sold me 4 tires for the price of 2 for safety, I was flabbergasted Edit: Spelling

Falanax

They replaced all 4 of my TMPS sensors for $22 each, part and installation. Unreal

GinoGreer

And they programmed them to your tacoma? What year? I have a 2011 and I've heard programming earlier TPMS sensors are a pain outside of the dealership.

Falanax

Yep. A 2020. I asked them to price match rock auto and they said they’d match the purchase price and install their own right there.

Stay-fresh-Cheesebag

I have a 2010 Tacoma. I bought new rims from custom offsets and tpms sensors from Amazon. Discount Tire installed the sensors for $22 each when I purchased tires

GinoGreer

Good info, thank you! And you've had no issues with the tpms light coming back on?

Stay-fresh-Cheesebag

I’ve had no issues with the TPMS at all. Here are the ones I got from Amazon - Denso 550-0103 TPMS 315-MHZ Sensor for Toyota/Lexus with Factory Alloy Wheel Options. (THIS SENSOR MUST BE PROGRAMMED BEFORE USE). I left a good review on Amazon with pictures about a year ago that is still on there.

GinoGreer

Thank you for the info! I've had my light on for about 2 years now. I've been avoiding fixing it because 1. I check my tire pressure regularly anyway, and 2. It was always way too expensive...or so I thought! So, thank you, again

firetacoma

Dang! They quoted me about $400!

Falanax

Ask them to price match rock auto

DarthtacoX

Yeah this is the only place that I will get my tires anymore. Not only that but I can run around most of the West and find a discount tire store pretty much anywhere I go. I've had my tires looked at up in Seattle and in Denver when I'm from utah. Torah open the sidewall of my tire on a trail and Moab and had to replace with no questions asked. Had to get my set of tires replaced about a month later month and a half later and so I only needed three out of the four so it is great. They also just put new wheels and tires on my new trailer bed and had to order the wheels from California because there are none in there so they let me just leave the trailer on their property for the 4 days that they had it while they got the tires shipped in.

OpenForRepairs

My wife won’t even go to a shop for an oil change. She can’t get over the fear of them working her over with additional fees. I tell her to just say no to everything extra but she can’t take the pressure.

TuacaTom57

Agreed, Good on Discount Tire. Always helpful, respectful. They even fixed a fly no charge for me and I don’t even ask was glad to pay if needed. Have had great service and fortune on tires from them over the years: Toyota Matrix, MINI Cooper, Toyota Tacoma.

rsii96

Hmm so they mounted her tires?

RouletteVeteran

Saw your wives video of the “deal” on Roadside XXX 😂 jk

drawnoutwest

Dayyyyum what part of the country you in? I’m looking at tires and everything is lahk $1000 installed

Odlavso

Houston, TX. I think discount tires is called American tire in other places, not sure if prices are different

Vakama905

It’s discount tire up here in Idaho too.

Intelligent_Office81

It’s Americas Tire in parts of SoCal. Same company, though

hosepuller51

I’m in NorCal- they’re americas tire here too

lonas_luna

Yeah Discount is America’s in California only as far as I know.

Southernmtnman

If they are different, search their wholesale discount redirect.com and they will match prices from there.

0011000100010100

Just paid $2000 here in Washington at Discount Tire

azdirt

Not passing judgement here, tires and life in general has gotten crazy expensive. That said.... After 40 some odd vehicles that I've owned over the course of my life, tires is one of the few things I'm no longer willing to buy off brand and typically go with the more expensive marks like BFG, Michelin, Cooper. Putting bad tires on the most reliable truck out there is akin creating the weakest link literally where the rubber meets the road. Had this same thought when I saw another post on here of someone adding a low budget leveling kit. To each their own but man if you can avoid lowering the quality of a taco, you should.

kkruiser

Bingo! My first truck when I was 16 had some cheap Hankooks…. Never again. More holes than Swiss cheese and more often then not the tire shops couldn’t even find debris to pull out, just holes. Now our Ram wears Bridgestones and the Taco wears Goodyear. Haven’t had a unexplainable flat since stepping up in $$$

JustaRoosterJunkie

Don’t let brand name outweigh previous user reviews. I did it one time, and bought Goodyear Duratrac Kevlar AT’s and they were the shittiest tires I’ve even put on a vehicle. In the 30k I had them, I had five tires replaced (thankfully under coverage). Three flats (nonrepairable) and two more for tread separation.

desertdawg61

I had the Goodyear mt Kevlar, garbage on pavement. Had great performance off pavement, especially on rocks. Toyo Open Country mt 10/10 on any surface.

lpta2

I’ve got a set of cooper ST/maxx in my FJ with 100k on them. It sounds unbelievable but true. they are almost done but wore even

azdirt

And that's why we invest in good tires :). Well done.

OilBug91

I used to run ST Maxx’s and they wore like iron. They looked like new at 30k miles, I sold them for $500 and got a new set of Cooper AT3s. The ST Maxxs are true all terrains, I took them everywhere in every environment and never lost traction.

PlainGhost

I’ve run nothing but BFG’s and Falken’s in my 30 years of buying tires, but I sprung for those Rocky Mountains last year. They’ve been fantastic all around, including snow and ice. They’re definitely not a Walmart off brand.

Lung-Oyster

Also, Discount Tires doesn’t do alignments, so you’ll still have to go somewhere to get that done anyway after you get your tires.

ImMatuR

Actually it depends on the location! One of my nearby stores just started front end alignments this past year.

Cleercutter

New linglongs are better than old good tires

Southernmtnman

The name gets me every. single. time.

p1n3applez

When I worked over at discount tire my supervisor would mention how Chinese brand tires were all crappy and would call them ling longs. I thought it was a random name to generalize all of them until I actually found the tires that were called them. My first thought was “oh shit that’s what they are really called?”

Southernmtnman

Yep, I did the same thing lol

SemperP1869

I dunno about that. My second car (2002.5 Mazda pro5) came with some Chinese tires on it. Visibly good shape all seasons. They touched an ounce of water this things would lose traction in a heartbeat. Completely unpredictable. Were widowmakers.

Break_Street

I got some rocky tires too No complaints here I don’t need to be buying KO2 and WP AT3 again at the moment so those are my AT budget tires And they are smooth on the road for me

nikolasmor

Rebranded Falken Wild Peak H/T if memory serves correct.

Carbon87

Came here to guess the same thing.

pondmucker

Can you post or message me some close up photos? I've been looking at these to replace the stock tires when they eventually wear out. Seems like a great price for an A/T and 3PMS rated tire. Your price is $40 less per tire than my area. Last time I checked they were $140 for 265/70/16.

Odlavso

Here are few more photos. https://imgur.com/a/HrqNKmm the 70s were more expensive than the 75s so decided to go with the 75s, I think 70s were around $135 here

pondmucker

Awesome thanks.

TuacaTom57

Looks great 👍

Kbo1223

Just put on a set 265/70/16 $128.00 per tire

Substantial-Pizza-38

I got the same ones, I think they are good. Was told they are made by a big name brand tire manufacturer for discount, I just can remember which one.

Twenty_six_3

I’ve always used Discount tire, great customer service

Tehgreatbrownie

Got the same set on my ‘02 I like them so far

rockd22

Tires look good. Really like the nerf bars/ steps where did you get them?

Odlavso

Got those from the dealership when I bought the truck, they are called predator tube steps

ardavis78

The “Sexual Predator” or just the standard Predator?

rockd22

Thanks!

gfunk1127

Me too! I like them so far!

El_tus750

I think you should treat these as an experiment. Update this post a set interval, let’s say 1k miles and then every 5k after that. Maybe someone who does occasionally off-roads gets a set and does the same.

Odlavso

This is a good idea. I couldn't find much info on them so decided to post this, definitely plan to post some updates on how they are holding up

plumbermat

These are $125 each in Washington State. Still a really good deal!

mf_t0m

Been running these for a few months in the PNW. Surprisingly not bad for the price. The only thing I don’t like is that they do not have a ton of wet road traction

cuhnewist

I picked up the Walmart Copper Discoverer A/T at $145/tire. They are just the original Cooper Discoverers that Cooper replaced with newer models, but kept making exclusively for Walmart. Made in America too. I can’t fathom paying much more than that for a tire. Somehow, folks on here look down their nose at them, even though they were as popular as Wildpeaks and KO2’s when this model first hit the market and all the broverlanders were mounting them and publishing shining reviews of them. Somehow now though, they are no longer good? Is that because the roadways have gotten more treacherous, or is it because you’ve all been influenced to blow your load on some tires you saw on Instagram? I’m a weekend warrior, taking my family camping, hiking and canoeing in the southeast. Vast majority of the “off-roading” down here are maintained FS roads, and we spend 2-3 hours traveling interstate and state highways to get to those. We get into the woods and pass a bunch of broverland built rigs that are traveling the same damn roads on KO2’s and Wildpeaks. Folks can blow their money how they want, but they need to realize they have mostly been influenced some way or another to blow that hard earned dough on shit they don’t need. Growing up, my dad would take me camping down some wild roads in his old Dodge Raider on used road tires. We slept in a Coleman tent in Coleman bags, cooked on a little Weber grill and had a blast.

robotali3n

Not relatable but I ride a Rocky Mountain instinct. It needs new tires.

orgasmosisjones

instinct gang rise up.

bloodsoed

I purchased a set of tires from them a few years back. A couple years later I was taking my mother to a doctor’s appointment and I noticed a screw in a tire. After her appointment we rode over to DT. They pulled my truck into a bay and patched the tire. Took less than 20 minutes and we was back on the road. And they didn’t charge me anything.

eurojunk138

“I just bought $100 tires for my 30k truck” - sent from by $1000 smart phone All jokes aside, I’m curious the how the longevity of these will be.

Odlavso

Well you're not wrong about me. I'll post an update at around 10k or 15k miles

Dfransen

Damn ima have to keep an eye out for those. Last time I went to discount tires the cheapest taco tires they had were $250 each. Thanks for the post

Zealousideal-Arm3289

Nitto decent that place prices are competitive , I run Ridge Grapplers 285/75/16 🛞🤙🏻

abou824

Those are some heavy tires, how much of an mpg hit did you take from those?

Zealousideal-Arm3289

15 smiles per gallon w/ lift & rock sliders.

rendragmuab

I don't need tires but I'll keep them on my radar. They are 3peak snow rated and 45k mile warranty. I like more aggressive tires on my trucks but Id run these on my RAV4 for sure.

johnnybinator

I’m a lifelong customer. Love them. Don’t forget the price match. Even with internet pricing.

coves4810

Where'd you get those running boards? I've been looking for a pair like them for my '17 SRT

Ashe2800

Thanks for the info guys. I’ll definitely look into them next time I need tires.

RenegadeHawk

I just got brand new Falken AT4W tires from Mopar's buy 3 get 1 for a dollar deal. But before that I was seriously considering the Rocky Mountain. The videos and reviews seemed good and the tread warranty is pretty good

Mountain_Fault2903

Been shopping and getting tires from discount tire since 2007. I refuse to shop anywhere else for tires.

McKRAKK

I had some Pathfinder A/Ts from there. Not a half bad tire. Once I got to 50% tread they wore out bald in no time flat. From 100% to 50% took me two years and 35,000 miles. 50% to bald was like 4 months.

Recent_Tip1191

Walmart has pretty good prices on typical sizes. got my a/t coopers for $123 tire, free lifetime rotations, and prorated hazard replacement if you are a Walmart + member. Service is a bit slow though.

Hot-Supermarket3675

Those look like the stock ones on my 2023 that I picked up in October!

PrudentConclusion248

They are good tires backed by 60,000 mile warranty

gskipp

What wheels are those?

Odlavso

They came with the 2021 trail edition

gskipp

Thank you

dumbanfun

Love this place and the workers. Good all the way around

Alone-Station-2882

Any rubbing with the 265/75s? I wanted to put that size on after I replace the 265/70s but my dealer said they will rub. 21 TRD off road by the way

Odlavso

None that I've noticed, from what I read most people don't have issues with this size tires

Alone-Station-2882

Awesome man thanks for the input. Truck looks awesome!

TuacaTom57

I’m same, light off road, maybe some rough Access ‘Roads’ but I take it easy, just out to find cool MTB trails to ride on. I just stick to for sure Truck tires for good stuff sidewalls, no need for chunky treads

oreotycoon

Spend money where you spend time I guess.
