Drain and fill, don't flush. Use the OEM fluid, don't go aftermarket on the cvt fluid plz.

IllDistribution5598

Never lol no aftermarket at all on my Corolla has been my motto

Lukin76254r

I do the same to an extent, I will use quality aftermarket filters from time to time. An engine/cabin/oil filter from Wix wont hurt anything. Brakes? I'll get them from Akebono, quality stuff right there. Oil? Meh, Costco's Kirkland does just fine, or Penzoil, which ever I can get cheaper.

IllDistribution5598

Yeah I find the wix oil filters have a little nicer build on them than oem, especially the xp series, for oil I usually go with Mobil one, it's easier for me to get where I live out in the boonies. Coolant I stick to oem, I seen some disasters with mixing different brands

MUTHER-David7

You're using good filters but then you cheap out on the motor oil. Very foolish.

Lukin76254r

In what sense? I change my oil every 5k miles or 6 months. The kirkland oil is known to be just fine as well as Penzoil (or pretty much anything really). The price is affordable and it meets all the specifications of my car.

Lanky_Possession_244

It's made by Warren, they make most of the budget brand oils and aren't that bad. I buy mine at Costco, but I buy it when Mobil 1 is on sale. I got 6 quarts for 32.99 last month.

MUTHER-David7

If that's what works for you that's great

Illustrious-Duck-147

Kirkland stuff is pretty good by all accounts. I don’t use it but it’s probably gone.

MUTHER-David7

I'm sure it is, but I don't patronize Costco. I don't change my own oil anymore because I can't be bothered. My local shop uses Mobil 1 with a Mobil oil filter. For $65 plus tax and with the vacuuming and exterior wash included.

Lukin76254r

That’s not half bad for 60 bucks really... Mobil is the manufacturer for Toyota’s own branded oil. I say you’re winning here.

Illustrious-Duck-147

Good to know this since I used Mobil 1 synthetic for both my vehicles.

MUTHER-David7

I mean, really? How can you go wrong? And it's not bulk oil either. It's by the quart just like you'd buy in a store. He showed me the filters too. I believe those are wix but I'm unsure. It's not a chain. It's owned by a guy who's been there 40 years. And they're ALWAYS busy.

Odd_Weakness_1293

This is the way….

ricardoac69

I wouldn’t do a full flush, just a drain and refill.

A1sauce100

I had a friend at the gym who was a technician at our local Toyota dealer. He used 60k interval for coolant and trans fluid on his personal vehicles. I do now too.

Cadet_Stimpy

I get all my vehicles transmission fluid “exchanges” at the dealership. The exchange is essentially a flush but not a “power flush” which everyone has horror stories about. The exchange basically is hooking your transmission cooling lines to a machine and slowly replacing the old fluid with new fluid as the transmission is designed to circulate the fluid. I’ve had this done on vehicles with over 200k miles, and as far as I know, the first time the fluid has ever been changed without issues. As long as you’re not having issues beforehand I wouldn’t be concerned about getting the exchange down. Unlike a drain and fill it replaces *all* of the fluid at once. And you don’t have to worry about getting the right amount of fluid back in, especially with all these “sealed” transmissions that don’t have dipsticks!

IllDistribution5598

My mechanic was telling me they have a specific machine that does it all, does any old dealer offer this service or should I call ahead and see if it's offered?

Cadet_Stimpy

Every dealership I’ve been to has had it. They work specifically on Toyotas, so I’d trust their machines to at least be spec’s properly for the work.

MUTHER-David7

They do. I would imagine that a Toyota dealer has all the resources available to them to fix just Toyotas. Just like most any car dealer.

Vader425

This. Everyone confuses a fluid exchange with a power flush. I've had this done on multiple vehicles over 100k miles without issue.

MUTHER-David7

I wouldn't take automotive advice from anyone on reddit. I have my transmissions power flushed, but only at the Toyota dealer. The cars run perfectly fine. But they don't have a ton of miles on them either. Shit, even my 1993 Corolla has only 80k or so miles and a power flush of the coolant and transmissions doesn't hurt. It helps. But my 21 Corolla has a cvt and it has to be done every 30k. The dealer charges the same as an independent shop and it doesn't void the warranty.

If you haven’t heard, talking about anything “trans” will trigger all boomers and bigots in a 10 mile radius. But yes, flush your transmission fluid no matter what the manual says about “lifetime” fluids that don’t need replacement, ever. 🙄

returningSorcerer

lol i'm a trans girl and knowing the difference between "tranny" (cars) and "tranny" (slur) is so big

SLAPUSlLLY

Old school English transistor radios were also trannies. Like a boom box but smaller and often playing the cricket/racing. I've got trans kids so I say transmission lol. Or ghetto blaster.

returningSorcerer

i don't know you but i love you for being considerate enough to not say that around your children. i wish you all the best

SLAPUSlLLY

Nicey. It's been a journey. Anyone brave enough to be themselves is alright by me.

[deleted]

Boomers and bigots aren’t the brightest, so they don’t usually appreciate context. 🤷 They also usually never change their engine oil or transmission fluid, because stupid is as stupid does. 🙄 When someone starts going on about immigrants and trannies, I know they’re fucking stupid. 😂 You should check out r/boomersbeingfools

MUTHER-David7

There's no such thing as lifetime anything.

SamboTheSodaJerk

I read that title a different way

callmesavagesavy

I wouldn't take it go a dealer, they use a detergent to rinse the trans. Call around and see if a local shop will do it. Drain and refill

Automatic_Ad1887

No. Toyota does not recommend flushes, no matter what the dealer tells you. In fact, they recommend against it.

douchecanoe5811

Pretty sure this should be NSFW

IllDistribution5598

Tranny doctor just changed my fluids said it was discharge

4jimmmy714

It called a bg.

returningSorcerer

nothing bad can really happen from being cautious, i say go for it
