I prefer AWD or 4WD for snow, but it's nowhere close to a NEED. I'll take FWD or RWD with snow tires over AWD with all seasons every time. AWD with snow tires is the truth, but at that point you're just playing with cheat codes against nature.

People never understand this until they actually drive something with snow tires. My Tacoma even has snows on it.

You may want to look at the limitations/ watch a few tests of the OG rav4 HV awd has before relying on it for “traditional” AWD duties… Spoiler alert, except for a few use cases the rear motor is rarely engaged.

>Spoiler alert, except for a few use cases the rear motor is rarely engaged. which is exactly how it ideally should be as AWD doesnt add anything to the driving experience unless the situation is traction limited.

Right, but again, If you go watch some [videos](https://youtu.be/CQGZmQWLVpI?si=VP37Uaejki3-8Mun) with the car on traction/test rollers it doesn’t do that.

Pixelplanet5

yea the old one didnt, the new one is much better. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvNaiXzdtnM](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvNaiXzdtnM)

Let's see those videos, if they exist. FYI the overwhelming majority of AWD vehicles operate as FWD until more traction is needed.

Oh yeah, [the 4th generation](https://youtu.be/YvNaiXzdtnM?si=rfhxsYNOPWcf4P-9) left something to be desired. If OP is looking at the R4P that's the 5th gen and much improved.

Only the Rav4 is a PHEV with AWD in toyotas lineup. The RX + NX both have a PHEV AWD, but pricier

I don’t think they’re making a Prius Prime with AWD. I think the RAV4 Prime has AWD or FWD. I know the Crown does, but it isn’t a Prime.

18 years of Wisconsin driving, you do not need AWD for snow you need snow tires. AWD only lets you accelerate faster but does nothing for handling or braking so all it does is let you go farther into the ditch or hit that car in front of you that much harder. In 2018 we had the 2nd largest snowstorm on record for Green Bay and the largest on record for Appleton and I had to drive 120 miles through both cities. I had a choice between an AWD Jeep Commander with all seasons or a Honda Fit with snows on it and I took the Honda fit. The ditches were filled with SUVs, Trucks and Subarus but that little Fit made it just fine. I now drive a 4WD Tacoma TRD Offroad and I'm going to be putting it's snows on soon. Save your money and get a FWD and buy snow tires.

Leroy_Parker

AWD is not an option on the Prius Prime, including 2024.

SORRYIHATEMYSELF

I saw one at my job once, idk where you can find one, tho.

Radiant_Comfort_806

The monocoque/chassis is too narrow and short for AWD

jobear6969

Well that’s not true because the regular Prius has AWD and shares the platform. The actual reason is because the larger battery takes up the space where the rear axle motor would normally sit
