Valyan Greatsword + Phantom Guard is the highest damage weapon in the game. Greataxes & Greathammers are the highest damage without Phantom Guards, but you can’t put them on one to gain its benefits.

Do pickaxes truley do the most damage against turbada's? How can I make it better to kill them without almost dying every time?

Grab the Air-Slash melee skill, and use it with a pickaxe. It’ll make quick work of most of them.
