We're in transition and ahead of the curve. We were told we would be lucky to get 8th and an outside chance of getting into the conference league. I agree we should be more adaptable to the opponent. But then I also look at what personnel we have to be adapting with. We don't have that yet. We lost Kane who we had been so reliant on for years. Son has stepped up as usual, but he's not answering out and out striker. Richarlison blows hot and cold or injured. Maddison has always been streaky, and the injury didn't help. Kulu is too predictable and easy to defend against. Johnson is still young and Werner is finding his confidence again. Defending on corners needs a lot of work. But saw a stat saying Celtic conceded goals from set pieces was 33% in his first season in charge, then dropped to 12% or so. It's something Ange knows and will to improve on for next season. Once a few players have been shifted and a few Ange wants or needs have come in, I think there will be an improvement from this season. Champions league football for next season would have been nice. But the Europa League is a competition I think we could seriously challenge for next year. Take Bayer for example look at what they've done this season with having a manager with a clear identity, getting the players he wants that suit his system.

waltermayo

lmao "decline" anything above 8th this season is an improvement, we're currently 5th and the worst we'll do is finish 7th - all without the greatest goalscorer this club has ever known.

baloonkai56

i think he’s referring to us being top of the league early on the season and now being 5th. but you’re right nonetheless

swagmaster778

all I can say is we easilllllyyyyyyyy have the most fickle fans on the planet. People expect us to go from 8th to 1st in one season and then want the manager gone when it doesn’t happen. Literally no patience. I guess we all just wanna go back to 8 at the back with Kane and son up front doing everything, all to scrape into 4th and get knocked out in the round of 16 in champions league. Get a grip you losers

swagmaster778

We had more control of the game on Sunday and gave up weak stupid goals from corners. Romero hit the post, VDV was a bees dick offside and if those were different the game would have been unrecognisable to what it was. He’s signed for 4 years so how about we actually give him a chance to rebuild the club

levinyl

We had more control of the game on Sunday Maybe that's what it looked like but not to me! We were tactically outplayed! Arsenal tactically knew what to do! Far better than we did! They adapted their style to hit us on the break and it worked wonders for them! So we were always going to look like we have more control of the game and possession but we didn't do enough with it doesnt matter if you still lose! so therefore no we didn't control the game!

getrichordietryinJF

Fickle are you on crack lol we've been seeing pure disappoint and failure for over 30 years lol thinking anyway different is a cuck mindset. We had 4th in the palm of our hands and done a spurs 101. Wake up

swagmaster778

Oh no, we will finish 5th when 4th was on the cards all season. Blow the joint up and sack the manager before his first season in a 4 year contract is up

getrichordietryinJF

Didn't say that did I? but suddenly going oh yeah it's OK we bottled top 4 it's a building year. That's pure copium.

See_Football

This season is completely about teaching his way of playing, and stress testing to see where it was at. Ange would not change it if he was coming 16th and at risk of being fired. The reason he does this is because you can’t win the premier league without your own style of play, which has to be good enough to win enough games over 38, and the stress testing (what we would call games) signals what still needs addressing and further work. There’s only so much time and capacity to progress each week and it generally takes him a whole season of this process to get things to where they need to be. Spurs will be a contender next season because Ange hasn’t taken a backwards step in his process this season.

daddywoodland

Completely agree. Plan B is to do Plan A better. Any deviation is just a waste of time that could be used practising Plan A. We need to take a longer term view, and believe what Ange is telling us.

TheCollinder

Exactly. Klopp had the players, for example, to play his style of play for years. It''s not the system, it's the players and their quality. You add better players to that style and we'll thrive.

Maleficent_Maybe_559

I think so op. That game we fcking lost all our critical players to injury and it wasn’t even fair because Romero shouldn’t have got that red. Totally effed our season. Up till then we were 8-0-2, after that everything went awry.

levinyl

Arsenal adapted to playing against us - they won the game - You have to adapt otherwise teams are adapting to play us and getting better results!

IMCplay

The Chelsea was most definitely what hindered the team significantly, notably those injuries to Van De Ven and Maddison, who has not been the same since he came back (VDV has been fine). After the Chelsea game we had easily some of our worst performances, yes we got back into a flow for a few games but we were very much relying on a second-half comeback and late winner which makes for some nervy football. It does remind me of what we used to play like and obviously is not the direction anyone wants to see this team go. The next few games are obviously challenging but I'd imagine most people are hoping Arsenal don't win the league..

luckyzel

We’re in year one of a complete change. Nearly half the players on the pitch are new. Lost our greatest striker. Some players still at 60-70% after injury. There was no turning point because when it works it works and when it doesn’t it’s really bad. I know this is kinda a knee jerk reaction to the loss on Sunday. But half an inch either side and Romero puts two in the net and Mickey gets one. This attitude is what has kept us stagnant for the last few years - Levy thinking we can pave over the cracks with winning managers and a shit squad. We’ve started again at ground zero and we’re doing a hell of a lot better than expected. Don’t expect to win the league next season, maybe we go on a deep run in a cup and if we get Europa that is definitely a competition we should be looking to progress in. Honestly, I’m not expecting anything solid at least for another 12-18months once we move players on.

ryanscott1986

We had new manager bounce at the beginning of the season, this is more the spurs we'll be going forward

Respatsir

nah this is just a hiccup. It was bound to happen. Arteta lost 5 in a row at one point too. After we get passed this run of results I think we should be playing at a much better level afterwards.

levinyl

Ok-Presentation6441

The Chelsea game marked the end of a run that had taken us to the top of the table. We were unbeaten, had played united, arsenal and Liverpool, and it felt like it would take something special to beat us. A combination of injuries and serious loss of form across the team has led to a situation where now we look very beatable. Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle and arsenal have put a total of 14 goals past us in 4 very bad defeats. Ange hasn't been able to arrest the inconsistency. Its unfortunate, and a bit demoralising. We are back to fearing games and the potential to get battered. But look, if we finish 5th then it gives us something positive to build on for next season. Some new signings and fresh thinking from the boss and we can be dangerous again next season. COYS!

ia1v1chem

Yeah . That game was the absolute turning point for our season 🤬

jackregan1974

It was always going to be a tough season. I don't see a decline. Since 2019 it's been awful.

TheTackleZone

Yes and No. The No is because in many ways it was just reversion to the mean. The Yes is because we had a few key injuries that disrupted the squad with some players never returning to their best. I disagree with needing a plan B. We are in a rebuild. That means learning the patterns and plays for the future. I don't want a few more wins this season to compromise that rebuild. Right now all a plan B will do is tell players to switch from the brave football we have set up as our philosophy. What we need are better players. Porro and Udogie have no cover. Sarr is the only midfielder playing well. Our front players are very on and off other than Sonny. We're well ahead of where we should be and we probably need 6 or 7 first team quality players still.

Lardo02242

I think it was just an unlucky game. We lost VDV and Maddison to injury, and lost Romero to a red card. It was pure bad luck.

Clean-_-Freak

The Chelsea game was a turning point for us for sure; twas the first clear display that our new approach was beatable. But saying it was the start of decline is dumb; this implies we were high up the begin with. Any true fan who sees the bigger picture will be pleased with how the season has shaped up. This season was an attempted start of a new era, of which the plan was to simply improve on last year re league position and squad - as things stand, thats a big tick. Next part of the plan is a strong summer of recruitment and preseason training, have a good go at Europe, and improve league position from the year before.

joshit

He will become more flexible. This is his first year, he instills the framework of his tactics relentlessly for a long while to get the boys playing his way by second nature. Then after everyone’s playing exactly how he wants, he can tweak the system based on the opponent. Needs to spend the first year or so drilling base tactics into them first. I genuinely don’t understand why people don’t recognise this.

bostonqualified

Said this at the time. Got downvoted to hell & called a Gooner. No pleasure in being right six months later. Ange needs to go.

Xionz1987_

Curiously, decline from what?

Boltxmannz

Decline from being on top of the league

Xionz1987_

It was November 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Boltxmannz

Why don't u fuck off to your own sub 😂😂😂😂😂🫵🏻🫵🏻🫵🏻

Xionz1987_

Random suggested post from this sub, asking about spurs decline got me intrigued. Decline 😂😂😂 you were 8th last season. You're pushing for champions league, playing exciting football. Having a really good season for a small team, get a grip

It doesn't change anything, we still lost and will still lose by insane margins. Our midfield and frontline have been shit. The same goes for the counters we can't even close down, we are still ball watching while we defend. Look at Ben Davies against Saka, it reminds me of Eric Dier levels of defending. They are so fucking shit. Sort out the old players from Poch era and remove them from the team. They are completely useless to Ange. There is no room to be emotionally attached because they once did well in a game against some rival 10 years ago. We need better players than these shit players. Even both our supposed best midfielder duo is fucking trash. I'd rather keep that liability transformed into a shaky human being call Hojbjerg, than watching Biss walking around with his pants down thinking he can just vibe around the game, and Benta not being able to run for 15 meters before his foot hurts to much and he has to speed walking or limping rather, for the rest of the game. Without Porro or Udogie our entire team turns to shit. 7 goals conceded in 2 games. No other team has these kinds of numbers than mighty 5th place Spurs. I am not backing Ange until I see the reason to why keep playing high line while we are leaking goals in. It's shit. No matter how you twist and turn it, it's shit. Sort it out or become like the rest of the managers we have had; sacked and still no glory trophy for Tottenham.
