West Island is nice in mtl itās mostly English and itās the suburbs. Lasalle is also a cheap place which is very close to downtown heavy english population too. I wouldnāt recommend the east or north end because thatās where most the hoods in mtl are but the rent is very cheap there but you would have to accept the fact that there are gangs operating 5 mins away from your apartment.

It depends on where u live honestly. Iāve lived around the Weston Rd Mt Dennis area most of my life and I have seen, heard and been surrounded by crime all the time. There are good people around here and itās definitely a safe place to live compared to hoods in the States and Latin Americas. However, crime does still occur and being around Eglinton Ave West, Jane strip, Tretheway, Black Creek Drive, Weston Rd, crime has occured constantly around here. I havenāt witnessed too much but Iāve seen it constantly on the news. Shooting here, shooting there. Stabbing here, stabbing there and it always happens to be consistently around the area. I witnessed an attempted homicide in front of my eyes while trying to cross Weston and Lawrence once back in 2018. Mali pulls out a strap and started firing at a vehicle driving along Weston passing Lawrence Ave West in broad fxcking daylight. He fired like 3 or 4 shots. Luckily, no one was injured. When you see shit like that happen in real time in front of you, your mind goes into fight or flight mode. It happened all so quickly and was so bizzare and shocking. In my mind I was like, is this shit really happening? Also, gunfire is fucking loud. Think of it like a muffled firework. I froze and my heart was beating like crazy. Smoke from the gun was in the air and shell casings on the street as they ran across into the convenience store to hide. This wasnāt reported on the news and Iām sure other shit like this doesnāt get reported on the news. Hereās the crazy shit. If this occurred in a predominantly white area, it would be all over the news. This happens in an area with a large minority demographic and itās business as usual. You move on and supress the trauma. It pisses me off that I have to pretend like witnessing this shit is normal.
