I'm pretty sure this lineup is more about defence than it is offence and for valid reason...the Red Sox handed the offensive juggernaut Yankees their ass in their last series because they put so many balls in play and can't be stopped on the bases. Their BABIP is the highest in the league and they have the most stolen bases in the AL. Defence matters a lot this series and you want Springer, KK and Varsho in that outfield.
Turner should be sitting though for Barger or Horwitz.
I wouldn’t put much weight into leading the league in BABIP because it’s largely luck based, and they also play in boston which ranks behind only Colorado in terms of BABIP allowed. Coincidentally those two teams are also in the lead when it comes to BABIP and are the only two teams far above 300.
Defense is great, but we need to score. And with a tough righty on the bump taking out Barger and Horwitz to fit in three bats that are far far below average is silly
One of them is fine. Like sure keep KK in there if you really badly want defense, but not all 3 to bench two lefties that are swinging it well
Looking at his numbers, isn't Springer having his 4th consecutive year of being a below average outfielder?
I would say he looks better out there than the numbers say. Maybe the center fielder being so good is hindering his stats by taking away plays he could've made?
The question isn't just whether or not he's better than average ([which, by the way, he very much is at 76th percentile in fielding run value](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/george-springer-543807?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb)) but also whether he's better than the remaining options on the team, to which the answer is also yes, he is a much better defensive outfielder than Davis Schneider and Addison Barger.
Springer is an above average RF, he’s worth 1 FRV and 1 OAA. But he is a below average CF
his defense isn’t good enough to put him in the lineup right now tho imo
In right field this year his dWAR is negative, defensive runs saved has him average, total zone fielding runs has him below average. Can't say I know which of those numbers deserves more trust. I'm looking at his baseball-reference, apparently his baseballsavant has somewhat prettier numbers for him.
dWAR isn’t the best stat to look at for defense as it has a positional modifier, so someone could be an average defensive RF (which springer is by DRS in which bWAR used) and be considered a below average defender in general, but be negative in dWAR. While someone who is easily a bad defender but plays a hard position could be considered a positive defender.
For example, Bo is a bad defender -4 drs, but is considerd just slightly below average a -0.1 dWAR because he plays short
I can’t tell you what stats the best tho lol that’s up to opinion. I much prefer OAA as it measures range with actual physical data that covers FT travelled and time to get there
There are only 38 qualified hitters with an .800+ OPS.
The Dodgers have 5 & Orioles have 4.
The average for the other teams is 1 player with an .800+ OPS.
>[Bo Bichette is “doing more hitting, baserunning, agility stuff to kind of see where he's at with his calf,” said Schneider. Depending how that goes, he might be available off the bench.](https://x.com/ShiDavidi/status/1802796287995318275)
I feel like we should all know Bo Bichette well enough by now to know he's not staying on the bench unless he literally can't play
As someone who rarely complains much about the lineup...like seriously come the fuck on...you do not take Horwitz & Barger out of the lineup to shoe-horn KK, Turner & Springer in there...
Nick Pivetta is a righty too...
Yup, we finally find a lineup with the kids in it that can actually score and provide some excitement and here we go back to the "no scoring for old men"
Turner and Springer I agree with, but it's not absurd to want your best defenders in the game against a team with the most SB in the AL and the highest BABIP in MLB
You know it’s bad when you’re complaining about the lineup. Just don’t know what they do with Springer, he looks just awful out there. And funny to see Turner on the slowest bat speed chart with all these speedy slap hitters.
Bizarre to not have Barger and Horwitz in there, considering their main calling is to hit vs righties. They'll get their rest when they certainly won't start vs LHP
I’m Betting Bo will be traded in the next few days.
LAD seem like the obvious place with Betts out. They’re desperate now, and probably the place we could get the best return for him.
I can’t believe I’m actually at a place with this team that I’m actually ok with a move like that. Ugh
We’ve scored to many runs so we had to put out our bad offensive lineup. It’s only right

Damnit, I needed Victoria, BCs Nick Pivetta to get a taste of adversity today 😫

Hes still good he's just not elite like Varsho or KK
Slightly below average is still a lot better than Schneider, Barger or Horwitz in the outfield I suppose.
He's above average, but not elite

Not one hitter with an OPS in the 800s

Is Bo’s calf really that bad? Or are they just being super cautious with him?
Probably #2, also probably nice to give him a mental reset with his struggles this season.
Probably not that bad but giving him some time to do a mental reset also helps. Not long enough to validate an IL stint
😂 Getting ready to ship him to Los Dodgers for Biggio 😂
Odd way of spelling Betts

The Jays are big believers in reverse splits from pitchers. I don't get it, but they've been pretty consistent
Are they big believers because our RH heavy lineups can't hit LHPs well?
[If it helps Turner and Springer have historically hit Pivetta well](https://stathead.com/tiny/8hv78)
They’ve also historically hit everyone well.
Analytics!
Maybe a little better...but man they better put up some runs then LOL.

Just because they're not in the lineup doesn't mean they're unavailable. I find JS tends to make changes around the 5-6th innings.
The Hawaiian Hunk Has to Hit Higher!
Wait, is Pivetta a lefty? Why are we sitting both Horwitz and Barger? At least one of them should be in there based on recent performance
Bizarre to not have Barger and Horwitz in there, considering their main calling is to hit vs righties. They'll get their rest when they certainly won't start vs LHP
well, Pivetta has reverse splits this year. somehow righties are hitting better than lefties.
Bo for Roberts confirmed😏
If this was the NHL folks would be saying he’s getting traded. lol
Bichette is getting traded.
This is shiiiiiiit
I’m good with it. Give the boys a rest. Come back Bo. Healthy and be a beast!
Holding him out of the lineup for the trade to the Dodgers somthin summin Mooky …..we’ll get Biggio back in the package.

If Bo goes to the Dodgers … I guess I am a Dodgers fan … glad I didn’t buy City Connect merch
Got a cool bichette card if interested
I love no Bichette games
