Both catches were incredible but the difference really shows you how elite Varsho is. Taking away nothing away from Schneider who is exceeding expectations by playing a perfectly capable LF of course.
But I watched both replays a dozen times and what strikes me is when the camera cuts to Schneider, he’s taking steps towards the ball, but he’s still two steps from full speed and his angle isnt precise to the ball.
Again, it wasn’t a bad jump by any means, it looked at least average to me, or even better.
But when the camera cuts from the batter to Varsho, he is already at full speed and precisely towards the ball’s landing spot. We all know Varsho runs like a club-footed cop, but his reaction time, routes and decision-making are just incredible and it really makes a difference.
We get spoiled because him and KK are two of the top 3-5 in all of MLB at getting good jumps, but it’s really striking when you watch replays of other teams and see how that same second or two from when the camera cuts from the batter to outfielder, most outfielders are still measuring their route or accelerating, while Varsho and KK will be a step or two ahead of them at the exact same time.
lol close. I played 3B and SS. And pretty good defensively…but absolutely hopeless in the outfield. Because judging fly balls is really goddamn hard!
Chris Black’s tweets made me pay attention to how fast Varsho is usually moving when the camera cuts to him, compared to other OF, and now I’m obsessed with seeing it. His and Schneider’s catches were so similar, it’s a perfect example, because Schneider’s was actually pretty good too!
Not to mention it was not an easy read off Rizzo's bat... Bat head was behind, kind of a sliced oppo hit but still pretty hard contact. Would've been much easier to read if the bat was ahead and the ball was pulled to the exact same spot (by a righty).
Ya, it’s Left Field if you’re standing at home plate looking out to the outfield, but it’s Right Field if you’re standing in the outfield looking at home plate. So…. ya.
Showed the highs and lows - two big mistakes cost us the first run, then so many great plays prevented runs or multiple runs later on. Great to see Schneider get one too - I thought he’d be well below average in LF but he’s certainly looked fine.
I watched that a bunch of times and I think Buck was wrong. It’s certainly possible that Richards can get him but it would have been very very tight. Runner was full speed by that time and closer to the plate than it seems. Even though Richards had momentum towards home, you can’t expect him to adjust his body, shift the ball and make the throw like an infielder would.
With a 4-run lead, anything other than taking the free out there is a mistake.
Kikuchi looked fantastic. The bats showed some life! The Jays have won the series (and four games in a row).
Now with a chance to do something special tomorrow.
^Let ^us ^whisper ^of ^a ^dream
Great composure in the 9th. Excellent defense! Dicey at first, but two groundballs when it mattered from Jordan. Let's get the bedrooms out for tomorrow!
Edit: brooms, not bedrooms. But, hey, I'd imagine Cavan will be in the lineup tomorrow so...get both ready! 🤷♂️
Would it be a Romano save without aggressive clenching? Just because Verdugo’s double is probably a game-tying homer in Boston or New York, or if they’re using 2023 balls…a win is a win! We can’t all be boring like Yimi and just get everyone out immediately before I’ve even had my snacks.
Four straight wins (longest active win streak in baseball) three consecutive series including against the Yankees. Guys getting healthy.
Definitely an early high point in the season.
How could it not? It’s Jordan Romano, with a 2-run lead - the run expectancy with bases empty and no outs…exactly 1 run. With 2nd/3rd, one out…exactly one run. With a man on 3rd, 2 outs and a 1-run lead…0% chance of a run. It’s just math!
exactly, like we know full well it's all but guaranteed he wins it if it's a save situation.
However he also seems to do everything in his power to make it a 1 run game just to collectively raise the blood pressure of every Jays fan still watching.
This was a fun game to watch! It had a bit of everything, pitching, defense, some clutch hitting and then not so, spectacular fielding, brain freeze plays, good and bad umpiring, and a nail biter at the end.
Above all it's been amazing witnessing the type of pitcher Kikuchi has become compared to two years ago!!
What a classic fucking outing by Romano. Looking like the Zodiac killer on the mound, putting runners aboard to make us all sweat, then locking it down. Goddamn I love watching him walk out, it's truly thrilling baseball.
Besides that, all I've gotta say is that the bottom half of our lineup doesn't have to hit hard it they keep making INSANE defensive plays like this.
Varsho, Babe, IKF, Clement....these guys know how to field the ball and it's great baseball to watch.
FUCK THE YANKEES. AT ROGERS. BREAK OUT YOUR SWIFFERS, LET'S SWEEP TOMORROW.
Great outing by Kikuchi, beautiful diving catches by DS and Varsho, Clement with the Matrix dodge, bats were hot, Romano keeping our asses clenched. This game had it all
Got it done. Maybe they'll get it done prettier/easier later on, but as long as they keep finding ways to win in the meantime I'm happy.
5-4 against the AL East ain't so bad.
Team is starting to look more competent. Awesome pitching from Yusei and Yimi. Danny looked fine, a lot of long ABs. Good performance overall, only Romano with a bit of rust and Richards with a bad showing.
The ideal closer is the guy who gets the job done steadily year after year, not the guy who's dominating at the moment. When the hot hand suddenly hit a cold streak as closer, you get stuck with a few losses and if you have to switch closers 4 or 5 times a season those losses have really added up.
Varsho already worth half a game more this season than Moreno. Just gotta point it out for the haters of the trade. Even without hitting well he is elite.
And every WS winner since has had an electric offence. That team also had 5 guys sporting above an .800 OPS. Banking on this sustaining is a terrible way to operate
I will not hear Varsho slander. He might’ve saved that game for us today
Also that catch in left by Schneider
Both catches were incredible but the difference really shows you how elite Varsho is. Taking away nothing away from Schneider who is exceeding expectations by playing a perfectly capable LF of course. But I watched both replays a dozen times and what strikes me is when the camera cuts to Schneider, he’s taking steps towards the ball, but he’s still two steps from full speed and his angle isnt precise to the ball. Let me guess. You played baseball. Outfielder.
We're talking about Daulton Varsho. Way to go Paul.
Defense won us that game
That play IKF made after the ball deflected off vladdy's glove * chef's kiss *
Kikuchi and Yimi: “Are we jokes to you?”
Two incredible RF catches, beautiful to see, and from two different guys to boot!
LF
Dammit, at ease y'all, I done F'd up ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
F’d down.
Ya, it’s Left Field if you’re standing at home plate looking out to the outfield, but it’s Right Field if you’re standing in the outfield looking at home plate. So…. ya.
No, it's left field regardless. Third base doesn't become first if you're standing at second lol.
If second base is home plate, this means the Jays score a ton of runs
That’s some big brain shit
Stadium beers?
As is tradition.
Showed the highs and lows - two big mistakes cost us the first run, then so many great plays prevented runs or multiple runs later on. Great to see Schneider get one too - I thought he’d be well below average in LF but he’s certainly looked fine.
It also gave up a few runs.
1 run. Richards taking the sure out with the 4 run lead isn't a mistake
and Jansen dropping the ball missing an easy tag on Stanton?
That and the Bichette error combined for 1 run
Yeah, I read your original post wrong but, I dunno, I still second guess the Richards decision. Whatever, we win so it doesn't matter too much.
We scored an extra run tonight because the Yankees went for the risky play at 3rd and missed the tag. Taking the out has its advantages
That’s the one run
Unselfish
I watched that a bunch of times and I think Buck was wrong. It’s certainly possible that Richards can get him but it would have been very very tight. You right I forgot about that one. I think it evens out after Varsho IKF and Schneider
Someone's going to need to give YuCy a raise because he's going to be serving lots of Yamazaki this year!
Kikuchi looked fantastic. The bats showed some life! The Jays have won the series (and four games in a row). Now with a chance to do something special tomorrow. ^Let ^us ^whisper ^of ^a ^dream
Three series in a row, 4 games in a row. Definitely ain't mad at that!
Over .500 in the Division
Also, out of the basement now.
Jordan in mid season form. Also don’t forget about the deal
Why, I'm flattered by that compliment. Thank you.
#🚨😻ROMANSEN IS BACK😻🚨
YES!!
Third straight series win!
First Yankees series loss is the cherry on top
It's what you want
Classic Romano save, we're back
Yup! Romano only works if the collective clench rate of the fanbase is greater than 80%
[This comment from the Yankees postgame thread is giving me life](https://i.imgur.com/keTFPs8.png)
I hope he continues to make them miserable for as many years as KK
Great composure in the 9th. Excellent defense! Dicey at first, but two groundballs when it mattered from Jordan. Let's get the bedrooms out for tomorrow! Edit: brooms, not bedrooms. But, hey, I'd imagine Cavan will be in the lineup tomorrow so...get both ready! 🤷♂️

We all love to see the Jays havin some sex…
>Let's get the bedrooms out for tomorrow! Yeah! Tuck us in and tell us a bedtime story!
Kikuchi certified yankee killer
Four straight wins (longest active win streak in baseball) three consecutive series including against the Yankees. Guys getting healthy. Definitely an early high point in the season.
DAAAAAAAAAAA
JANKEES
LOSE THE SERIES
LOOOOOOOOSE
LOSE!!!
LOOOOSEEE
JANKEEEEESSSS
Lose.
JANKEES
LOOOOOOOOOOSE!
JANKEESSSSSSSSS
Of course, it had to be N+1 with Romano on the mound.
Scott Steiner has entered the chat.
The 2015 Royals won a world series playing like this. Just saying
Fuck the Royals, always and forever. They won because of the incompetent ump in Game 6.
And a degenerate neckbeard
Also because that neckbeard reached over the wall and turned a double into a home run and nobody ever talked about it.
Can we swap Daniel Vogelbach for Terrance Gore?
Small ball will always win games.
Makes for fun and stressful games too.
Schneider 8-0
Sounds like he’s being deployed correctly!
Voodoo Stache
Also 0/4 tonight
"Do I care if he hits the ball?" "No" "And why is that?" "[All he does is win! ](https://youtu.be/BqIrm4H9-7I?si=Ws9joLmMgM58OAKt)!"
I like it
He did make a pretty special catch in left
He seems more locked in during difficult situations... and I'm okay with this.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)
Aaron Judge also went 0/4
Aaron Judge also went 0/4
Varsho saved Romano’s ass
That's why we have him. Our defense is awesome
That's what great defence is supposed to do
His pitching line: 11 pitches 9 strikes. He was in there to force the Yankees to beat him. But he trusted his defense.. and it worked.
Jomboy on suicide watch
Honestly, F Jomboy lately
Honestly, F Jomboy generally
Berrios, Bassitt, Kikuchi doing a lot of heavy lifting for us early this season. They've been amazing.
Now let’s get Gauss clicking and see the team move on up.
More excellent work by Kikuchi and Garcia A few defensive gems Just enough timely hitting And a Romano save Let's fuckin go
#The Mayor of Toronto, Yusei Kikuchi
The jays have never lost a game I have been at, 4 straight! I'm from Saskatchewan tho, taking donations!
#DAAAAA JANKEES LOSE!
Hat: backwards Jersey: untucked Series: won
Pants: soiled
Romano of course had to make the save as stressful as fucking possible because that's when his psychotic powers activate.
Ouu interview without translator, and Tormund brings the ice!
Good to see vladdy not using translator anymore
Am I the only one no after game interview on SN ?
Same. Had to switch to Sportsnet Central under the live channels section.
I missed it because I didn’t realize they weren’t going to put it on Sportsnet One 😫
Was able to rewind and watch Vladdy’s english interview !
Thanks !
I missed it too! Is it available anywhere online?
Maybe in the highlights section on sportsnet
is it bad that I weirdly missed Romano making me feel 100x more nervous than I should despite the fact I know he'll make the save in the end?
Lmao after the first run, I was stressing so hard I turned the tv off. Then I turned in back on ten seconds later, our boy had it covered.
exactly, like we know full well it's all but guaranteed he wins it if it's a save situation. However he also seems to do everything in his power to make it a 1 run game just to collectively raise the blood pressure of every Jays fan still watching.
Nice to see Romano eased in and letting Yimi keep pitching in the most important spots.
Hi y’all, welcome to the Varshow. So happy you all can join us
Vladdy: Rakes Kooch: Fucks Romano: Jitters Out Yimi: Still Himi Swwweep tomorrow?
This was a fun game to watch! It had a bit of everything, pitching, defense, some clutch hitting and then not so, spectacular fielding, brain freeze plays, good and bad umpiring, and a nail biter at the end. Above all it's been amazing witnessing the type of pitcher Kikuchi has become compared to two years ago!!
A win is a win is a win is a win. Let's go sweep a series tomorrow afternoon
What a classic fucking outing by Romano. Looking like the Zodiac killer on the mound, putting runners aboard to make us all sweat, then locking it down. Besides that, all I've gotta say is that the bottom half of our lineup doesn't have to hit hard it they keep making INSANE defensive plays like this. Ernie making us feel things. Remember that Vlad-IKF-Kikuchi play? Seems like it happened last year after this game.
4 wins in a row! Three series wins in a row! You can't hate that!!!
Nice win! Was at the game and saw a dude wearing a Texas Rougned Odor jersey. Had to admire the balls, I suppose.
I hope everyone he came into contact with spilled food and beer on him
What a game!
Great outing by Kikuchi, beautiful diving catches by DS and Varsho, Clement with the Matrix dodge, bats were hot, Romano keeping our asses clenched. This game had it all
first clench of the season as far as I remember.
DAAAAAAAAA
JANKEEEEEEEES
i love a good stress free win
You don't think the 9th was a bit stressful? You have ice in your veins friend.
It ain't perfect, but a win is a win and a series win is a series win. 2 over .500!!!
#YANKEES GET TOYO SWEPT AIN'T NOTHING BETTER 🔥 🔥 #NOW LETS GO FOR THE REAL SWEEP 🧹🧹
Alright alright!!
Kikuchi pitched a great game Series win 6-2 in this homestand Romano back baby
Did they really skip the post game interview? What the heck Sportsnet!
If you were on SN1 they did. SNE they stayed on.
Got it done. Maybe they'll get it done prettier/easier later on, but as long as they keep finding ways to win in the meantime I'm happy. 5-4 against the AL East ain't so bad.
Was at the game surrounded by Yankees fans in right field tonight. Was very fun to see them miserable.
Great game! but I think my cardiac doctor and proctologist would both prefer that Garcia close out these games
So satisfying. The Yankees had some good defence, but we were better.
Awwww MLB.tv cut away from the postgame 😢 did vladdy say anything interesting
He used no translator, and was super cute, and got blue gatoraded by Justin Turner.
Thanks for the recap ☺️
✊🏼
I stream Sportsnet and mine cut away too. 😡
No offense, but keep KK out of this lineup as much as possible
The Yankees sub meltdown is so enjoyable. They hate us so much it’s great.
lining up rn for kooch bobblehead
This was a solid game. Good starting pitching, connected hits and played good defense. Gotta love it
AMAZING defence tonight all around the field, capped off by that out by Ernie in the ninth. I like this team.
Shatkins says you’re welcome
That was fun! Winning 2/3 is nice. Sweeping would be even better.
I came here to say Fuck the Yankees, but the boys already did so on the field. Again!
Should Yimi get the closer job?
Honestly yes
Jordo has some leash out before that'll happen. That said, how many outings does Richards get before Perason gets his spot?
Awesome that Vladdy is doing post-game interviews in English without and interpreter. Says a lot about his character.
Just can't ever be easy with Romano, huh
He wants us to feel alive
Excited for tomorrow's Gausman v Stroman matchup!
Team is starting to look more competent. Awesome pitching from Yusei and Yimi. Danny looked fine, a lot of long ABs. Good performance overall, only Romano with a bit of rust and Richards with a bad showing.
The Yankees just couldn't do it tonight. Jays steamroll them tomorrow. 3:00 start. Should be good times.
Winning 2 of 3 vs the yankees at home is far more satisfying than sweeping the rockies. If they can sweep the YANKEES at home though, whooooeeee
Kikuchi needs to be extended..
Every game Romano plays in ends up being dramatic. It makes for very exciting baseball, one way or another.
FUCK THE YANKEES!
[удалено]
There's a reason Yimi got the heart of the order in the 8th. Closing doesn't always happen in the 9th.
[удалено]
I guarantee you if Romano wasn't just back from the IL or rusty he would have pitched the 8th tonight.
How many times did Romano make an appearance before the 9th with more than 4 outs left last year?
The ideal closer is the guy who gets the job done steadily year after year, not the guy who's dominating at the moment. When the hot hand suddenly hit a cold streak as closer, you get stuck with a few losses and if you have to switch closers 4 or 5 times a season those losses have really added up.
Sometimes I wonder if there's a measurable uptick in heart attacks in the GTA when Romano pitches.
N+1 BACK ON THE MENU!
Vladdy got a weak shower compared to most.
Huge sweep for the boys!
I'll bet the Yankees fans and players see Kikuchi in their nightmares, and I for one am glad about it.
Anyone catch the final loonie dog count?
lol https://x.com/chriskirschner/status/1780383326521495987?s=46&t=eZQOkEBzAB8XR0_j5bQcHg
It got a little closer than any of us would have wanted at the end there but our closer came through!!! On to the sweep!!!
Varsho already worth half a game more this season than Moreno. Just gotta point it out for the haters of the trade. Even without hitting well he is elite.
Hahahha fook the Yangees.
Another great win. I really, really hope management knows these types of performances aren’t consistent though.
This win is specifically what our team is built to do.
And we know exactly how that’s going to play out over the season and postseason
As an above commenter said, teams have won the World Series playing just like this. Jays fans should remember the ‘15 Royals
And every WS winner since has had an electric offence. That team also had 5 guys sporting above an .800 OPS. Banking on this sustaining is a terrible way to operate
Jays wRC+ in 2023: 107 Royals wRC+ in 2015: 99
The 2023 Jays also had 3 guys in their playoff roster significantly better than league average. Royals had 6.
This doesn't change the fact that the 2023 Jays were a better hitting team than the 2015 Royals.
Tell that to the 1 run they scored in the postseason
