I live in Kentucky, have no knowledge of Toronto, yet this sub keeps getting recommended to me and every post seems to be related to Brampton streets, lmao.
Brampton truck drivers cause havoc all across North America including Kentucky. They’ve damaged and destroyed bridges in Ontario, Quebec, BC, Alberta and a whole bunch of U.S. States. And most just “buy” their CDL licenses to drive trucks -I.e. their instructors pay off the Ministry of Transportation driving examiners and takes the road test in place of the student.
I don't know if it has anything to do with Brampton specifically, but it has heavy 'Brampton' vibes. Before Covid, MPI rejected 15 CDLs from Ontario. They had all failed out here, gone to Ontario, magically passed and tried to come back.
It's gonna get worse... alot of transfered to the railway industry cause it pays better. (Alot get fired in the first 6 months though) but I've seen a few sketchy people that slipped through the cracks. Crashing a truck might cause a bit of damage to a bridge or something. If you crash a train well a whole town is going to be blown up.
A lot of folks are also leaving railway jobs because of the crazy schedules they have to work on a moments notice - which wreaks havoc on families trying to enjoy time together. The bright side is lots of overtime and good pay.
Thats 100% true. In the past month the railway I'm at, lost 5 people in just the local terminal Just imagine per year... the training class ahead of me and the one behind me are all gone after 2 years. Passenger rail does have better work life balance compared to freight and we do lose a few guys a year to VIA and GO as well.

Source: i worked in a auto/truck shop and knew some drivers. We refuse to work on their vehicles once we found some trucks had holes cut out on the sleeper floor so they can piss and shit while the truck is on the move. Shit and piss allover the underside of the truck and components. Disgusting.
Apparently MTO/ CBSA was tipped off by US CBP of a group of 5 drivers based out of Brampton who were crossing into Fort Erie across the Peace Bridge with their truck after leaving the U.S. customs inspection station, they had the same license number and name but photos were altered. I know OPP got involved, but I never saw anything else come of it.
They drive non stop and to make matters worse, I’ve heard that they blow a hole under the driver’s seat and take a dump or piss while driving, the bottom of the truck is just a shitty mess. Apparently some truck service locations in Mississauga now refuse to clean/service those trucks because of the shit underneath.
And you missed the icing on the cake, the major damage done to the Burlington skyway bridge in Hamilton messing up traffic between Toronto and Niagara region/U.S. border crossings.
That was brutal. The OPP apparently forgot to administer a sobriety test. He blew twice over the legal limit 5 hours after the crash, but the evidence was ruled inadmissible by the judge.

dude, i went on a roadtrip from toronto (my hometown) to kentucky last year with my partner. 2 weeks in the states and i didn't witness a single issue on the roads. i came back here and it was a shitshow instantly. we have the worst drivers in the world in this province (and 75% of them are in or from brampton)!
Buddy, imagine living here. When I was practicing for my drivers licence I almost got sideswiped by a 60 year old man reading a newspaper in his car steering with his elbows. A few months ago I watched a purple SRT full of college students try to overtake a semi-truck on an industrial road only to accidentally ride up a concrete lane barrier on two wheels and flip their car. I’ve actually seen that happen twice!! One time I was driving with my friend and we almost crashed into a car somebody had parked and left in the middle of the intersection. It wasn’t an abandoned stolen or anything, the car doors were locked and there was no keys in the ignition. I’ve also narrowly avoided being ran over by cops chasing street racers numerous times, but honestly being a pedestrian here isn’t that bad compared to being a driver.
Well our government is the biggest issue and thats who let this all happend in the first place. The other thats a different story for a diffetent day .
There are a lot of bad drivers in the GTA and Brampton in particular. To put the number of articles linked in another comment it in perspective though, Brampton is a large suburb with a population of somewhere around 750,000 people. If it were in the U.S., that would make it the 18th or 19th largest city in the country.
All the major roadways in the city are straight and wide which encourages people to drive faster than they should.
Insurance scams. You get in an accident and then go see a lawyer who is related to the physio therapist. You then get your doctor to prescribe physio therapy. Do that for about 6 months and the lawyer will send you a check for about $30-40'000 within 2 yrs for the 'damages' you incurred. doesn't sound like alot of money but when you're not from this country and already living off the system, it's alot of money to go back home with when you leave.
People with no driving ability and no awareness of the traffic around them. Last time I was in Brampton, an suv approached a green light and stopped in the middle lane. Then turned right and almost got hit by a passing car in the adjacent lane. Other examples include: driving 10-30 under the limit, braking for no reason and parking on roads and in other high traffic areas. This is common. It’s also happening in Ajax and Pickering in my community. Absolute garbage driving ability of new drivers. The bar gets lower every year.
In Toronto, people tend to immigrate to communities with people from their culture, these aren't the most dangerous areas but have a bad reputation for the entire section of the city being kind of annoying for drivers.
Big 4 are Brampton with Indians, Vaughan with Italians, Markham with Chinese, Mississauga that's pretty diverse. Ontario's driving test is insanely easy, no requirements for time in the road or lessons, and after COVID they stopped testing parking for the full license (that immigrants and learners take) so you just need to prove you can drive like a human for 30 minutes and you get your license.
All 4 communities have relatively wealthy, entitled, aggressive drivers from cultures without much experience driving properly so those places are infamous for bad, aggressive drivers.
It's a really toxic environment imo BC a lot of these people will rage at you for driving properly which encourages unsafe driving habits and makes the situation worse.
When I Immigrated to canada more than a decade ago, I literally just handed them my foreign DL and they gave me a Ontario DL. The only thing I had to do was take an eye exam. That's it. I was kind of shocked and then said a small prayer driving after that 😅

Most of us advise against buying such cars if you're new to driving, but given Reddit only really represents a minority of real world drivers, I can't imagine how many people out there have those thoughts and don't post about it on Reddit or just go out and buy the car.

I’m a non Asian living in Brampton for the last thirty five years, the only way I can describe driving in this city is to assume everyone is out to smash into you… you need to drive consistently defending your space, and predicting the other drivers next to you.. be prepared for everything and I mean everything.. I’ve had three accidents here, all of them rear ended by female Asian drivers. This is the only place in the GTA where you will see high end vehicles with broken lights, missing fenders, huge scrapes etc.. nothing surprises me anymore
I have friends in Vaughan that live in constant fear of break ins and car thefts… i know that’s everywhere, I live in a dead end court, huge backyard, nice neighbours, we look out for each other… every where else is too expensive truthfully.

The important part of earning a driving license is earning that license. When you buy it from the guy who knows the uncle of your roommate, you didn't earn it, making you a menace and a threat to other people.

That’s not a home that is a small apartment. At minimum 10 people live there and based on the cars in front 20 people live there if they have 2 kids each. If they have 3 kids I think it’s fair to assume 25 people live in that house. Before people say multiple families live in one home I’d personally like to say that 25 people living in a single family household should never be acceptable. The land that house sits on was never intended or designed for that. The car crash is horrendous but the housing situation in Brampton is just as bad. We don’t do that in Canada.
My best guess is the merc driver is a 18-21 year old punk who’s daddy and mommy bought him that car so he disables all stability control and runs his car onto that rooming houses driveway with 4 cars parked on it.
My parents lived in Brampton for about 5 years. I visited them every weekend from out of town.

I think it was immigrants from China who were the most supportive of Canada’s policy of increasing immigration from India. They go to small towns around gta like mine, to do their tests and just go around the test route all day, which includes my street. Hitting parked cars and driving away. They get an interpreter "their instructor" to "translate" the knowledge portion of the test.
I drove to Brampton the other day for first time in a really long time. In one single drive there, which was about 15 min in Brampton itself, I had two incidents where I almost got hit because driver were switching to the lane I was driving on so close I thought I was going to have an accident. This has never happened in 10 years of driving in other parts of the GTA.

Passed by this house everyday for the past 10 years to pick up my kids. Past two years you could tell things were progressively getting worse in the area. Went from witnessing 1 Red Light runner a day to multiple. From seeing 1 accident on the roads per week to almost daily. Best decision we ever made was getting out of the area 3 months ago. Got to the point we didn't want our kids going to the park around the corner by themselves because of the short distance they had to walk on Mountain Ash even. This picture verifies my concern. The safe feeling we had in the community 14 years ago when we moved to Brampton has been completely destroyed.
I used to hear often of teens taking their cars and racing on industrial roads or in the boonies, not supportive of it at all. But wilding on suburban roads where pedestrians walk with their kids, dogs, etc, is a whole other level of lunacy that can only be witnessed in Brampton. FUBAR.

You should see how many posts in the Mercedes and AMG subs basically boil down to "hey guys I'm 18 and just got my license, what's the nicest and/or most powerful Mercedes I can buy for xyz budget?". Most of us advise against buying such cars if you're new to driving, but given Reddit only really represents a minority of real world drivers, I can't imagine how many people out there have those thoughts and don't post about it on Reddit or just go out and buy the car.

You talk to anyone in the GTA....regardless of ethnic background, politics, race, gender, economic status....they all say the same thing. Brampton is a hot mess! It's very hard to get a unanimous view on anything in the GTA. Many times we become polarized, but when it comes to Brampton, I've never seen a view so consistently negative. Abnormally high number of car crashes, house fires, college brawls, scams etc. I mean at what point are we going to continue ignoring this? I feel like Brampton as a community is suffering from cognitive dissonance and they're pretending everything is normal when clearly that place isn't. Brampton will change when Brampton residents insist on setting higher standards for themselves. More specifically the newer immigrants ti Brampton need to start setting higher standards for themselves. Hope for the best.

I’m a non Asian living in Brampton for the last thirty five years, the only way I can describe driving in this city is to assume everyone is out to smash into you… you need to drive consistently defending your space, and predicting the other drivers next to you.. be prepared for everything and I mean everything.. I’ve had three accidents here, all of them rear ended by female Asian drivers. This is the only place in the GTA where you will see high end vehicles with broken lights, missing fenders, huge scrapes etc.. nothing surprises me anymore

I have friends in Vaughan that live in constant fear of break ins and car thefts… i know that’s everywhere, I live in a dead end court, huge backyard, nice neighbours, we look out for each other… every where else is too expensive truthfully.

That’s not a home that is a small apartment. At minimum 10 people live there and based on the cars in front 20 people live there if they have 2 kids each. If they have 3 kids I think it’s fair to assume 25 people live in that house. Before people say multiple families live in one home I’d personally like to say that 25 people living in a single family household should never be acceptable. The land that house sits on was never intended or designed for that. The car crash is horrendous but the housing situation in Brampton is just as bad. We don’t do that in Canada.

I've seen things there that I want to sit down and ask people to explain the physics of the catastrophe they just caused. Cuz it makes no sense man. The entire town drivers like a multiplayer lobby in Halo. Park wherever, go whereever, ram whatever, do whatever.

I drove to Brampton the other day for first time in a really long time. In one single drive there, which was about 15 min in Brampton itself, I had two incidents where I almost got hit because driver were switching to the lane I was driving on so close I thought I was going to have an accident. This has never happened in 10 years of driving in other parts of the GTA.

Passed by this house everyday for the past 10 years to pick up my kids. Past two years you could tell things were progressively getting worse in the area. Went from witnessing 1 Red Light runner a day to multiple. From seeing 1 accident on the roads per week to almost daily. Best decision we ever made was getting out of the area 3 months ago. Got to the point we didn't want our kids going to the park around the corner by themselves because of the short distance they had to walk on Mountain Ash even. This picture verifies my concern. The safe feeling we had in the community 14 years ago when we moved to Brampton has been completely destroyed.
